    Synchronization of chaotic systems using time-delayed fuzzy state-feedback controller

    This paper presents the fuzzy-model-based control approach to synchronize two chaotic systems subject to parameter uncertainties. A fuzzy state-feedback controller using the system state of response chaotic system and the time-delayed system state of drive chaotic system is employed to realize the synchronization. The time delay which complicates the system dynamics makes the analysis difficult. To investigate the system stability and facilitate the design of fuzzy controller, T-S fuzzy models are employed to represent the system dynamics of the chaotic systems. Furthermore, the membership grades of the T-S fuzzy models become uncertain due to the existence of parameter uncertainties which further complicates the system analysis. To ease the stability analysis and produce less conservative analysis result, the membership functions of both T-S fuzzy models and fuzzy controller are considered. Stability conditions are derived using Lyapunov-based approach to aid the design of fuzzy state-feedback controller to synchronize the chaotic systems. A simulation example is presented to illustrate the merits of the proposed approach

    The concept of complex dynamic systems arises in many varieties, including the areas of energy generation, storage and distribution, ecosystems, gene regulation and health delivery, safety and security systems, telecommunications, transportation networks, and the rapidly emerging research topics seeking to understand and analyse. Such systems are often concurrent and distributed, because they have to react to various kinds of events, signals, and conditions. They may be characterized by a system with uncertainties, time delays, stochastic perturbations, hybrid dynamics, distributed dynamics, chaotic dynamics, and a large number of algebraic loops. This special issue provides a platform for researchers to report their recent results on various mathematical methods and techniques for modelling and control of complex dynamic systems and identifying critical issues and challenges for future investigation in this field. This special issue amazingly attracted one-hundred-and eighteen submissions, and twenty-eight of them are selected through a rigorous review procedure

    An adaptive fuzzy observer-based approach for chaotic synchronization

    AbstractThis paper presents an adaptive fuzzy observer design to synchronize chaotic systems. The chaotic system is expressed in the form of Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy model (T–S fuzzy system), which considers the effect of model mismatches. Based on this model, an adaptive fuzzy observer is developed to deal with the synchronization of nonidentical chaotic systems. In contrast to the framework of parallel distributed compensation for T–S fuzzy system, the proposed method does not rely on the existence of common matrix P which is imposed in stability conditions. The computer simulation examines the performance of two well-known chaotic systems, Lorenz system and Chua circuit. The results show that the proposed approach cannot only attain synchronization but also is robust to parameter perturbations in the drive system

    Robust adaptive synchronization of a class of uncertain chaotic systems with unknown time-delay

    In this paper, a robust adaptive control strategy is proposed to synchronize a class of uncertain chaotic systems with unknown time delays. Using Lyapunov theory and Lipschitz conditions in chaotic systems, the necessary adaptation rules for estimating uncertain parameters and unknown time delays are determined. Based on the proposed adaptation rules, an adaptive controller is recommended for the robust synchronization of the aforementioned uncertain systems that prove the robust stability of the proposed control mechanism utilizing the Lyapunov theorem. Finally, to evaluate the proposed robust and adaptive control mechanism, the synchronization of two Jerk chaotic systems with finite non-linear uncertainty and external disturbances as well as unknown fixed and variable time delays are simulated. The simulation results confirm the ability of the proposed control mechanism in robust synchronization of the uncertain chaotic systems as well as to estimate uncertain and unknown parameters

    Fuzzy Adaptive Prescribed Performance Control for Uncertain Horizontal Platform System with Unknown Control Gain

    This paper proposes a fuzzy adaptive control method for uncertain horizontal platform system with unknown control gain, which is capable of guaranteeing the prescribed performance bounds. An error transformation is introduced to transform the original constrained system into an equivalent unconstrained one. Then, based on the error transformation technique and the predefined performance technique, a fuzzy adaptive controller is designed for the unconstrained system. It is shown that all the variables of the resulting closed-loop system are bounded. Finally, an illustrative example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed method

    On the validity of memristor modeling in the neural network literature

    An analysis of the literature shows that there are two types of non-memristive models that have been widely used in the modeling of so-called "memristive" neural networks. Here, we demonstrate that such models have nothing in common with the concept of memristive elements: they describe either non-linear resistors or certain bi-state systems, which all are devices without memory. Therefore, the results presented in a significant number of publications are at least questionable, if not completely irrelevant to the actual field of memristive neural networks

    CHAOS SYNCHRONIZATION USING SUPER-TWISTING SLIDING MODE CONTROL APPLIED ON CHUA’S CIRCUIT

    Chua’s circuit is the classic chaotic system and the most widely used in serval areas due to its potential for secure communication. However, developing an accurate chaos control strategy is one of the most challenging works for Chua’s circuit. This study proposes a new application of super twisting algorithm (STC) based on sliding mode control (SMC) to eliminate or synchronize the chaos behavior in the circuit. Therefore, the proposed control strategy is robust against uncertainty and effectively regulates the system with a good regulation tracking task. Using the Lyapunov stability, the property of asymptotical stability is verified. The whole of the system including the (control strategy, and Chua’s circuit) is implemented under a suitable test setup based on dSpace1104 to validate the effectiveness of our proposed control scheme. The experimental results show that the proposed control method can effectively eliminate or synchronize the chaos in the Chua's circuit

    Generalized Synchronization with Uncertain Parameters of Nonlinear Dynamic System via Adaptive Control

    An adaptive control scheme is developed to study the generalized adaptive chaos synchronization with uncertain chaotic parameters behavior between two identical chaotic dynamic systems. This generalized adaptive chaos synchronization controller is designed based on Lyapunov stability theory and an analytic expression of the adaptive controller with its update laws of uncertain chaotic parameters is shown. The generalized adaptive synchronization with uncertain parameters between two identical new Lorenz-Stenflo systems is taken as three examples to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The numerical simulations are shown to verify the results
