The aim of this study represented by identifying the impact of teaching science using blended learning strategy in the development of achievement skill among students. The study focused on the students in the ninth grade in Dubai Educational zone in the first semester of the year 2013/2014. Sample has been selected from Omar Bin Al-Khattab intermediate School (45) students. The school has been chosen as it provided a computer lab, e-learning equipment and tools to accommodate the number of students. A subject has been designed from the first unit in science to the ninth grade and it was followed by an achievement test which consists of a multiple choice study before and after applying the educational program. Along with these tests, a questionnaire was prepared in order to measure student’s attitudes. To justify our calculation, the results were manipulated by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) along with analysis of variance (ANOVA). These calculations conclude our finding to the following: the results and its analysis show that the two groups, one of them under traditional teaching method and the other using blended learning strategy. Using blended learning strategy to teach science, has a positive impact in achievement skill and attitudes. The study showed high level of performance on achievement test as a whole after applying blended learning strategy. At the end of this study, many issues required more researcher’s attention, so, in the light of these findings, we provide recommendations in various areas

This research aimed at identifying the influence of active involvement on blended learning for Statistics course on the learning outcomes of Physics pre-service teacher. This research also attempted to depict the benefits and challenges during the implementation of blended learning in the higher education context, particularly the implementation of blended learning for Statistics course among Physics pre-service teachers. The sample of this research was the entire students of Physics education department who attended Statistics course in the Fifth semester. Based on the results of the research, the active involvement of Physics pre-service teachers during blended learning session on Statistics course contributes as much as 56.5%. While the correlation equation obtained was Y= 44.509 + 0.503 X. The average responses of blended learning given by the Physics pre-service teacher on Statistics course was 81.5%. The implementation of blended learning for Statistics course improves the active involvement of Physics pre-service teachers

Non-traditional processes in higher education in engineering: a conceptual mapping

Study of the adoption of non-traditional tools as support for Higher Education curricula in Electrical Engineering and Computers. We highlight the use of blended-learning, interactive and remote virtual laboratories, computer simulation, and methodologies, such as Active Learning and Problem Based Learning and their applications in the curricular units of the course. The study is a literature review with the systematization and presentation of the findings through a conceptual map. We concluded that the initiatives that have resorted to new technologies in engineering degrees, as well as reports of similar experiments on this topic, are reduced, not formalized in curricula, and ad hoc

Characterizing papers about ‘blended learning’: an unconsolidated field?

Publications and use of hybrid systems in education have increased during the last ten years. This growing field of practice might be analyzed to increase our knowledge and improve present and future experiences. We present a study of 245 academic journal’s papers with ‘blended learning’ in the title. The main results, supporting the descriptive statistical analysis, are related to the cluster analyses. It was pointed out three distinguish groups of publications around their most important properties picturing general tendencies: the diversity of papers; the focus on communicational media; andthe focus on educational practice. In conclusion, blended learningpapers showed a practical educational activity more than a separated object of research revealing itas a growing construction field.Fil: Borgobello, Ana. Introductory programming in higher education: A systematic literature review

    Get PDF
A systematic literature review was performed on 33 papers obtained from the ACM, IEEE and Sciencedirect databases, in order to understand in depth, the introductory programming discipline (CS1) in higher education. Recently published works have been covered, providing an overview of the teaching-learning process of introductory programming and enabling to find out whether the research developed by universities worldwide is in line with the proposals made by ACM/IEEE-CS group for computer courses, regarding the transition to the competency-based model. The results show that the new techniques/technologies currently used in software development, as an example of agile methodology, has influenced the teaching-learning process of CS1 together with methods such as visual programming and e-learning. The analyzed papers discuss the importance of developing not only technical, but also social skills, corroborating that methodologies used in introductory programming courses need to focus on preparing students for an increasingly competitive market, associating new skills with technical aspects. This work is supported by CIEd – Research Centre on Education, Institute of Education, University of Minh
