A New Biometric Template Protection using Random Orthonormal Projection and Fuzzy Commitment
Biometric template protection is one of most essential parts in putting a
biometric-based authentication system into practice. There have been many
researches proposing different solutions to secure biometric templates of
users. They can be categorized into two approaches: feature transformation and
biometric cryptosystem. However, no one single template protection approach can
satisfy all the requirements of a secure biometric-based authentication system.
In this work, we will propose a novel hybrid biometric template protection
which takes benefits of both approaches while preventing their limitations. The
experiments demonstrate that the performance of the system can be maintained
with the support of a new random orthonormal project technique, which reduces
the computational complexity while preserving the accuracy. Meanwhile, the
security of biometric templates is guaranteed by employing fuzzy commitment
protocol.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, accepted for IMCOM 201

In this note, the T-S fuzzy model approach is exploited to establish stability criteria for a class of nonlinear stochastic systems with time delay. Sufficient conditions are derived in the format of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), such that for all admissible parameter uncertainties, the overall fuzzy system is stochastically exponentially stable in the mean square, independent of the time delay. Therefore, with the numerically attractive Matlab LMI toolbox, the robust stability of the uncertain stochastic fuzzy systems with time delays can be easily checked
On design of robust fault detection filter in finite-frequency domain with regional pole assignment
This brief is concerned with the fault detection (FD) filter design problem for an uncertain linear discrete-time system in the finite-frequency domain with regional pole assignment. An optimized FD filter is designed such that: 1) the FD dynamics is quadratically D-stable; 2) the effect from the exogenous disturbance on the residual is attenuated with respect to a minimized Hâ-norm; and 3) the sensitivity of the residual to the fault is enhanced by means of a maximized H--norm. With the aid of the generalized Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma, the mixed H--/Hâ performance and the D-stability requirement are guaranteed by solving a convex optimization problem. An iterative algorithm for designing the desired FD filter is proposed by evaluating the threshold on the generated residual function. A simulation result is exploited to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design technique. This work was supported in part by the Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR) at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia under Grant 16-135- 35-HiCi, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants

Online Deep Learning for Improved Trajectory Tracking of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Using Expert Knowledge
This work presents an online learning-based control method for improved
trajectory tracking of unmanned aerial vehicles using both deep learning and
expert knowledge. The proposed method does not require the exact model of the
system to be controlled, and it is robust against variations in system dynamics
as well as operational uncertainties. The learning is divided into two phases:
offline (pre-)training and online (post-)training. In the former, a
conventional controller performs a set of trajectories and, based on the
input-output dataset, the deep neural network (DNN)-based controller is
trained. In the latter, the trained DNN, which mimics the conventional
controller, controls the system. Unlike the existing papers in the literature,
the network is still being trained for different sets of trajectories which are
not used in the training phase of DNN. Thanks to the rule-base, which contains
the expert knowledge, the proposed framework learns the system dynamics and
operational uncertainties in real-time. The experimental results show that the
proposed online learning-based approach gives better trajectory tracking
performance when compared to the only offline trained network.Comment: corrected version accepted for ICRA 201
Integral MRAC with Minimal Controller Synthesis and bounded adaptive gains: The continuous-time case
Model reference adaptive controllers designed via the Minimal Control Synthesis (MCS) approach are a viable solution to control plants affected by parameter uncertainty, unmodelled dynamics, and disturbances. Despite its effectiveness to impose the required reference dynamics, an apparent drift of the adaptive gains, which can eventually lead to closed-loop instability or alter tracking performance, may occasionally be induced by external disturbances. This problem has been recently addressed for this class of adaptive algorithms in the discrete-time case and for square-integrable perturbations by using a parameter projection strategy [1]. In this paper we tackle systematically this issue for MCS continuous-time adaptive systems with integral action by enhancing the adaptive mechanism not only with a parameter projection method, but also embedding a s-modification strategy. The former is used to preserve convergence to zero of the tracking error when the disturbance is bounded and L2, while the latter guarantees global uniform ultimate boundedness under continuous L8 disturbances. In both cases, the proposed control schemes ensure boundedness of all the closed-loop signals. The strategies are numerically validated by considering systems subject to different kinds of disturbances. In addition, an electrical power circuit is used to show the applicability of the algorithms to engineering problems requiring a precise tracking of a reference profile over a long time range despite disturbances, unmodelled dynamics, and parameter uncertainty.Postprint (author's final draft
Composite Learning Control With Application to Inverted Pendulums
Composite adaptive control (CAC) that integrates direct and indirect adaptive
control techniques can achieve smaller tracking errors and faster parameter
convergence compared with direct and indirect adaptive control techniques.
However, the condition of persistent excitation (PE) still has to be satisfied
to guarantee parameter convergence in CAC. This paper proposes a novel model
reference composite learning control (MRCLC) strategy for a class of affine
nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties to guarantee parameter
convergence without the PE condition. In the composite learning, an integral
during a moving-time window is utilized to construct a prediction error, a
linear filter is applied to alleviate the derivation of plant states, and both
the tracking error and the prediction error are applied to update parametric
estimates. It is proven that the closed-loop system achieves global
exponential-like stability under interval excitation rather than PE of
regression functions. The effectiveness of the proposed MRCLC has been verified
by the application to an inverted pendulum control problem.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, conference submissio
