    Analog neural networks for real-time constrained optimization

    Architectures and circuit techniques for implementing general piecewise constrained optimization problems using VLSI techniques are explored. Discrete-time analog techniques are considered due to their inherent accuracy, programmability, and reconfigurability. A general architecture for minimizing piecewise functions by using gradient schemes is introduced. Switched-capacitor (SC) building blocks featuring improved characteristics in terms of area occupation and operation speed are presented. The implementation of the architectures by using the newest switched-current techniques is discussed. The layout of a 3-μm CMOS SC prototype for a quadratic optimization problem with linear constraints is given

    Práce je zaměřena na problematiku bezpečnostních vodíkových senzorů. Základní principy a teorie vodíkových senzorů je rozebrána v první části práce. Je navržena metodologie testování organických vodíkových senzorů vyvinutých a vyrobených na Fakultě Chemické Vysokého Učení Technického v Brně. Nejslibnější organický material byl testován. V závěrečné části byl navržen teplotní regulátor pro použití s keramickou senzorovou platformou.This thesis is focused on topic of safety hydrogen sensors. Theory of hydrogen sensors and main sensor principles are discussed. Methodology for testing of organic hydrogen sensors developed and fabricated at the Faculty of Chemistry of Brno University of Technology is outlined. A set of tests is done for the most promising organic material. Also, temperature regulator for ceramic sensor platform is designed.

    Self-checking on-line testable static RAM

    This is a fault-tolerant random access memory for use in fault-tolerant computers. It comprises a plurality of memory chips each comprising a plurality of on-line testable and correctable memory cells disposed in rows and columns for holding individually addressable binary bits and provision for error detection incorporated into each memory cell for outputting an error signal whenever a transient error occurs therein. In one embodiment, each of the memory cells comprises a pair of static memory sub-cells for simultaneously receiving and holding a common binary data bit written to the memory cell and the error detection provision comprises comparator logic for continuously sensing and comparing the contents of the memory sub-cells to one another and for outputting the error signal whenever the contents do not match. In another embodiment, each of the memory cells comprises a static memory sub-cell and a dynamic memory sub-cell for simultaneously receiving and holding a common binary data bit written to the memory cell and the error detection provision comprises comparator logic for continuously sensing and comparing the contents of the static memory sub-cell to the dynamic memory sub-cell and for outputting the error signal whenever the contents do not match.     This paper presents circuit design considerations of comparator in analog-to-digital converters (ADC) applied for a portable, low-cost and high performance nano-sensor chip which can be applied to detect the airborne magnetite pollution nano particulate matter (PM) for environmental monitoring. High-resolution ADC plays a vital important role in high perfor-mance nano-sensor, while high-resolution comparator is a key component in ADC. In this work, some important design issues related to comparators in analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are discussed, simulation results show that the resolution of the comparator proposed can achieve 5µV , and it is appropriate for high-resolution application

    A novel active quenching circuit for single photon detection with Geiger mode avalanche photodiodes

    In this paper we present a novel construction of an active quenching circuit intended for single photon detection. For purpose of evaluation, we have combined this circuit with a standard avalanche photodiode C30902S to form a single photon detector. A series of measurements, presented here, show that this single photon detector has a dead time of less than 40ns, maximum random counting frequency of over 14MHz, low after pulsing, detection efficiency of over 20% and a good noise performance. This simple and robust active quenching circuit can be built from of-the-shelf electronic components and needs no complicated adjustments.Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures, 15 reference

    Preliminary design study of a regenerative life support system information management and display system

    The instrumentation requirements for a regenerative life support systems were studied to provide the earliest possible indication of a malfunction that will permit degradation of the environment. Four categories of parameters were investigated: environmental parameters that directly and immediately influence the health and safety of the cabin crew; subsystems' inputs to the cabin that directly maintain the cabin environmental parameters; indications for maintenance or repair; and parameters useful as diagnostic indicators. A data averager concept is introduced which provides a moving average of parameter values that is not influenced by spurious changes, and is convenient for detecting parameter rates of change. A system is included to provide alarms at preselected parameter levels

    Unsupervised Graph-based Rank Aggregation for Improved Retrieval

    This paper presents a robust and comprehensive graph-based rank aggregation approach, used to combine results of isolated ranker models in retrieval tasks. The method follows an unsupervised scheme, which is independent of how the isolated ranks are formulated. Our approach is able to combine arbitrary models, defined in terms of different ranking criteria, such as those based on textual, image or hybrid content representations. We reformulate the ad-hoc retrieval problem as a document retrieval based on fusion graphs, which we propose as a new unified representation model capable of merging multiple ranks and expressing inter-relationships of retrieval results automatically. By doing so, we claim that the retrieval system can benefit from learning the manifold structure of datasets, thus leading to more effective results. Another contribution is that our graph-based aggregation formulation, unlike existing approaches, allows for encapsulating contextual information encoded from multiple ranks, which can be directly used for ranking, without further computations and post-processing steps over the graphs. Based on the graphs, a novel similarity retrieval score is formulated using an efficient computation of minimum common subgraphs. Finally, another benefit over existing approaches is the absence of hyperparameters. A comprehensive experimental evaluation was conducted considering diverse well-known public datasets, composed of textual, image, and multimodal documents. Performed experiments demonstrate that our method reaches top performance, yielding better effectiveness scores than state-of-the-art baseline methods and promoting large gains over the rankers being fused, thus demonstrating the successful capability of the proposal in representing queries based on a unified graph-based model of rank fusions

    Testing mixed-signal cores: a practical oscillation-based test in an analog macrocell

    A formal set of design decisions can aid in using oscillation-based test (OBT) for analog subsystems in SoCs. The goal is to offer designers testing options that do not have significant area overhead, performance degradation, or test time. This work shows that OBT is a potential candidate for IP providers to use in combination with functional test techniques. We have shown how to modify the basic concept of OBT to come up with a practical method. Using our approach, designers can use OBT to pave the way for future developments in SoC testing, and it is simple to extend this idea to BIST.European Union 2635
