    A Motion Estimation Algorithm Using DTCWT and ARPS

    In this paper, a hybrid motion estimation algorithm utilizing the Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DTCWT) and the Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (ARPS) block is presented. The proposed algorithm first transforms each video sequence with DTCWT. The frame n of the video sequence is used as a reference input and the frame n+2 is used to find the motion vector. Next, the ARPS block search algorithm is carried out and followed by an inverse DTCWT. The motion compensation is then carried out on each inversed frame n and motion vector. The results show that PSNR can be improved for mobile device without depriving its quality. The proposed algorithm also takes less memory usage compared to the DCT-based algorithm. The main contribution of this work is a hybrid wavelet-based motion estimation algorithm for mobile devices. Other contribution is the visual quality scoring system as used in section 6

    Fast compressed domain watermarking of MPEG multiplexed streams

    In this paper, a new technique for watermarking of MPEG compressed video streams is proposed. The watermarking scheme operates directly in the domain of MPEG multiplexed streams. Perceptual models are used during the embedding process in order to preserve the quality of the video. The watermark is embedded in the compressed domain and is detected without the use of the original video sequence. Experimental evaluation demonstrates that the proposed scheme is able to withstand a variety of attacks. The resulting watermarking system is very fast and reliable, and is suitable for copyright protection and real-time content authentication applications

These efforts targeted a vast area of applications such as video on demand, digital TV/HDTV broadcasting, multimedia video databases, surveillance applications etc. Moreover, the applications demand more efficient collections of algorithms to enable lower bit rate levels, with acceptable quality depending on application requirements. In our time, most of the video content either stored, transmitted is in compressed form. The increase in the amount of video data that is being shared attracted interest of researchers on the interrelated problems of video summarization, indexing and abstraction. In this study, the scene cut detection in emerging ISO/ITU H264/AVC coded bit stream is realized by extracting spatio-temporal prediction information directly in the compressed domain. The syntax and semantics, parsing and decoding processes of ISO/ITU H264/AVC bit-stream is analyzed to detect scene information. Various video test data is constructed using Joint Video Team.s test model JM encoder, and implementations are made on JM decoder. The output of the study is the scene information to address video summarization, skimming, indexing applications that use the new generation ISO/ITU H264/AVC video

    A Review on Block Matching Motion Estimation and Automata Theory based Approaches for Fractal Coding

    Fractal compression is the lossy compression technique in the field of gray/color image and video compression. It gives high compression ratio, better image quality with fast decoding time but improvement in encoding time is a challenge. This review paper/article presents the analysis of most significant existing approaches in the field of fractal based gray/color images and video compression, different block matching motion estimation approaches for finding out the motion vectors in a frame based on inter-frame coding and intra-frame coding i.e. individual frame coding and automata theory based coding approaches to represent an image/sequence of images. Though different review papers exist related to fractal coding, this paper is different in many sense. One can develop the new shape pattern for motion estimation and modify the existing block matching motion estimation with automata coding to explore the fractal compression technique with specific focus on reducing the encoding time and achieving better image/video reconstruction quality. This paper is useful for the beginners in the domain of video compression

    In motion pictures there is a certain amount of redundancy between consecutive frames. These redundancies can be exploited by using interframe prediction techniques. To further enhance the efficiency of interframe prediction, motion estimation and compensation, various motion compensation techniques can be used. There are two distinct techniques for motion estimation block matching and pel-recursive block matching has been widely used as it produces a better signal-to-noise ratio or a lower bit rate for transmission than the pel-recursive method.
