    Soft computing has come of age to o er us a wide array of powerful and e cient algorithms that independently matured and in uenced our approach to solving problems in robotics, search and optimisation. The steady progress of technology, however, induced a ux of new real-world applications that demand for more robust and adaptive computational paradigms, tailored speci cally for the problem domain. This gave rise to hybrid intelligent systems, and to name a few of the successful ones, we have the integration of fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and neural networks. As noted in the literature, they are signi cantly more powerful than individual algorithms, and therefore have been the subject of research activities in the past decades. There are problems, however, that have not succumbed to traditional hybridisation approaches, pushing the limits of current intelligent systems design, questioning their solutions of a guarantee of optimality, real-time execution and self-calibration. This work presents an improved hybrid solution to the problem of integrated dynamic target pursuit and obstacle avoidance, comprising of a cascade of fuzzy logic systems, genetic algorithm, the A* search algorithm and the Voronoi diagram generation algorithm

    As of this writing, many success stories exist yet of powerful genetic algorithms (GAs) in the field of constraint optimisation. In this paper, a hybrid, intelligent genetic algorithm will be developed for solving a cutting layout problem in the Belgian fashion industry. In an initial section, an existing LP formulation of the cutting problem is briefly summarised and is used in further paragraphs as the core design of our GA. Through an initial attempt of rendering the algorithm as universal as possible, it was conceived a threefold genetic enhancement had to be carried out that reduces the size of the active solution space. The GA is therefore rebuilt using intelligent genetic operators, carrying out a local optimisation and applying a heuristic feasibility operator. Powerful computational results are achieved for a variety of problem cases that outperform any existing LP model yet developed.Fashion; Industry;

    A framework of stochastic multilevel programming is proposed for modelling decentralized decision-making problem in stochastic environment. According to different decision criteria, the stochastic decentralized decision-making problem is formulated as expected value multilevel programming, and chanceconstrained multilevel programming. In order to solve the proposed stochastic multilevel programming models for the Stackelberg-Nash equilibriums, genetic algorithms, neural networks and stochastic simulation are integrated to produce a hybrid intelligent algorithm. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the hybrid intelligent algorithm

    AbstractThis paper presents an in-depth performance evaluation of three different optimization algorithms, in particular genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and firefly (FF) algorithm for power demand forecasting in a deregulated electricity market and smart grid environments. In this framework, this paper proposes a hybrid intelligent algorithm for power demand forecasts using the combination of wavelet transform (WT) and fuzzy ARTMAP (FA) network that is optimized by using FF optimization algorithm. The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed hybrid WT+FF+FA model is trained and tested utilizing the data obtained from ISO-NE electricity market

    A Hybrid Intelligent Algorithm for Optimal Birandom Portfolio Selection Problems

    Birandom portfolio selection problems have been well developed and widely applied in recent years. To solve these problems better, this paper designs a new hybrid intelligent algorithm which combines the improved LGMS-FOA algorithm with birandom simulation. Since all the existing algorithms solving these problems are based on genetic algorithm and birandom simulation, some comparisons between the new hybrid intelligent algorithm and the existing algorithms are given in terms of numerical experiments, which demonstrate that the new hybrid intelligent algorithm is more effective and precise when the numbers of the objective function computations are the same

    In this paper, we designed a hybrid of swarm intelligence algorithms to diagnose hepatitis, breast tissue, and dermatology conditions in patients with such infection. The effectiveness of hybrid swarm intelligent algorithms was studied since no single algorithm is effective in solving all types of problems. In this study, feed forward and Elman recurrent neural network (ERN) with swarm intelligent algorithms is used for the classification of the mentioned diseases. The capabilities of six (6) global optimization learning algorithms were studied and their performances in training as well as testing were compared. These algorithms include: hybrid of Cuckoo Search algorithm and Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) (CSLM), Cuckoo Search algorithm (CS) and backpropagation (BP) (CSBP), CS and ERN (CSERN), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and LM (ABCLM), ABC and BP (ABCBP), Genetic Algorithm (GA) and BP (GANN). Simulation comparative results indicated that the classification accuracy and run time of the CSLM outperform the CSERN, GANN, ABCBP, ABCLM, and CSBP in the breast tissue dataset. On the other hand, the CSERN performs better than the CSLM, GANN, ABCBP, ABCLM, and CSBP in both th

    AI and OR in management of operations: history and trends

    Get PDF
    The last decade has seen a considerable growth in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for operations management with the aim of finding solutions to problems that are increasing in complexity and scale. This paper begins by setting the context for the survey through a historical perspective of OR and AI. An extensive survey of applications of AI techniques for operations management, covering a total of over 1200 papers published from 1995 to 2004 is then presented. The survey utilizes Elsevier's ScienceDirect database as a source. Hence, the survey may not cover all the relevant journals but includes a sufficiently wide range of publications to make it representative of the research in the field. The papers are categorized into four areas of operations management: (a) design, (b) scheduling, (c) process planning and control and (d) quality, maintenance and fault diagnosis. Each of the four areas is categorized in terms of the AI techniques used: genetic algorithms, case-based reasoning, knowledge-based systems, fuzzy logic and hybrid techniques. The trends over the last decade are identified, discussed with respect to expected trends and directions for future work suggested

    Global competition and rapidly changing customer requirements are demanding increasing changes in manufacturing environments. Enterprises are required to constantly redesign their products and continuously reconfigure their manufacturing systems. Traditional approaches to manufacturing systems do not fully satisfy this new situation. Many authors have proposed that artificial intelligence will bring the flexibility and efficiency needed by manufacturing systems. This paper is a review of artificial intelligence techniques used in manufacturing systems. The paper first defines the components of a simplified intelligent manufacturing systems (IMS), the different Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to be considered and then shows how these AI techniques are used for the components of IMS
