    AIS-SFHM APPROACH FOR OPTIMIZATION OF MULTI OBJECTIVE JOB SHOP PROBLEMS

    The n-job, m-machine Job shop scheduling (JSP) problem is one of the general production scheduling problems. The JSP problem is a scheduling problem, where a set of ‘n’ jobs must be processed or assembled on a set of ‘m’ dedicated machines. Each job consists of a specific set of operations, which have to be processed according to a given technical precedence order. Job shop scheduling problem is a NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem.  In this paper, optimization of three practical performance measures mean job flow time, mean job tardiness and makespan are considered. The hybrid approach of Sheep Flocks Heredity Model Algorithm (SFHM) is used for finding optimal makespan, mean flow time, mean tardiness. The hybrid SFHM approach is tested with multi objective job shop scheduling problems. Initial sequences are generated with Artificial Immune System (AIS) algorithm and results are refined using SFHM algorithm. The results show that the hybrid SFHM algorithm is an efficient and effective algorithm that gives better results than SFHM Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm (GA).     Emergence of advance manufacturing systems such as CAD/CAM, FMS and CIM etc. has increased the importance of the flow shop scheduling. Flow shop scheduling problem is considered NP-hard for m machines and n jobs. In this paper, we develop an efficient genetic algorithm (EGA) for solving n flow shop scheduling problem with makespan as the criterion. The objective of this proposed EGA is to obtain a sequence of jobs and the minimization of the total completion time and waiting time. For finding optimal solution, this EGA is very effective. In large scale problems, the result of the proposed algorithm shows that the efficient genetic algorithm gives high performance comparing with Branch and Bound algorithm and Tabu search algorithm

    An Enhanced Estimation of Distribution Algorithm for Energy-Efficient Job-Shop Scheduling Problems with Transportation Constraints

    [EN] Nowadays, the manufacturing industry faces the challenge of reducing energy consumption and the associated environmental impacts. Production scheduling is an effective approach for energy-savings management. During the entire workshop production process, both the processing and transportation operations consume large amounts of energy. To reduce energy consumption, an energy-efficient job-shop scheduling problem (EJSP) with transportation constraints was proposed in this paper. First, a mixed-integer programming model was established to minimize both the comprehensive energy consumption and makespan in the EJSP. Then, an enhanced estimation of distribution algorithm (EEDA) was developed to solve the problem. In the proposed algorithm, an estimation of distribution algorithm was employed to perform the global search and an improved simulated annealing algorithm was designed to perform the local search. Finally, numerical experiments were implemented to analyze the performance of the EEDA.     Flow shop is the process of determining the sequence of jobs that have the same product path. While the flow-shop scheduling takes assumption that a number of jobs that each has the same machine work sequence. The problems faced by com-panies, namely the high demand and yet the existence of a good scheduling planning resulted in the company should be able to optimize sche-duling job. One of the ways to solve these problems is by minimizing the Makespan. This research will solve the problem regarding to the flow shop scheduling by using cross entropy-genetic algorithm (CEGA) method to minimize Makespan. The technique that is used to solve the problem is by comparing the result of the application of existing methods in the company with the proposed method (CEGA). To support the application of CEGA used MATLAB software. Finally known that the results CEGA can give optimal solution, Makespan values obtained for 10829 seconds. So far, it was more effective than the method that used at the firm with Makespan efficiency by 10.06%.Keywords: Flow Shop, Scheduling, Cross Entropy-Genetic Algorithm, Makespan

    A decomposition based algorithm for flexible flow shop scheduling with machine breakdown

    Research on flow shop scheduling generally ignores uncertainties in real-world production because of the inherent difficulties of the problem. Scheduling problems with stochastic machine breakdown are difficult to solve optimally by a single approach. This paper considers makespan optimization of a flexible flow shop (FFS) scheduling problem with machine breakdown. It proposes a novel decomposition based approach (DBA) to decompose a problem into several sub-problems which can be solved more easily, while the neighbouring K-means clustering algorithm is employed to group the machines of an FFS into a few clusters. A back propagation network (BPN) is then adopted to assign either the shortest processing time (SPT) or the genetic algorithm (GA) to each cluster to solve the sub-problems. If two neighbouring clusters are allocated with the same approach, they are subsequently merged. After machine grouping and approach assignment, an overall schedule is generated by integrating the solutions to the sub-problems.     A Comparative Representation Approach to Modern Heuristic Search Methods in a Job Shop

    The job shop problem is among the class of NP- hard combinatorial problems. This Research paper addresses the problem of static job shop scheduling on the job-based representation and the rule based representations. The popular search techniques like the genetic algorithm and simulated annealing are used for the determination of the objectives like minimizations of the makespan time and mean flow time. Various rules like the SPT, LPT, MWKR, and LWKR are used for the objective function to attain the results. The summary of results from this paper gives a conclusion that the genetic algorithm gives better results in the makespan time determination on both the job based representation and the rule based representation and the simulated annealing algorithm gives the better results in the mean flow time in both the representations

    ADAPTIVE, MULTI-OBJECTIVE JOB SHOP SCHEDULING USING GENETIC ALGORITHMS

    This research proposes a method to solve the adaptive, multi-objective job shop scheduling problem. Adaptive scheduling is necessary to deal with internal and external disruptions faced in real life manufacturing environments. Minimizing the mean tardiness for jobs to effectively meet customer due date requirements and minimizing mean flow time to reduce the lead time jobs spend in the system are optimized simultaneously. An asexual reproduction genetic algorithm with multiple mutation strategies is developed to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. The model is tested for single day and multi-day adaptive scheduling. Results are compared with those available in the literature for standard problems and using priority dispatching rules. The findings indicate that the genetic algorithm model can find good solutions within short computational time

    Flexible flow shop scheduling with stochastic processing times: A decomposition-based approach

    Flexible flow shop scheduling problems are NP-hard and tend to become more complex when stochastic uncertainties are taken into consideration. Although some methods have been developed to address such problems, they remain inherently difficult to solve by any single approach. This paper presents a novel decomposition-based approach (DBA), which combines both the shortest processing time (SPT) and the genetic algorithm (GA), to minimizing the makespan of a flexible flow shop (FFS) with stochastic processing times. In the proposed DBA, a neighbouring K-means clustering algorithm is developed to firstly group the machines of an FFS into an appropriate number of machine clusters, based on their stochastic nature. Two optimal back propagation networks (BPN), corresponding to the scenarios of simultaneous and non-simultaneous job arrivals, are then selectively adopted to assign either SPT or GA to each machine cluster for sub-schedule generation. Finally, an overall schedule is generated by integrating the sub-schedules of machine clusters.     Flow shop scheduling problems much studied by several researchers. One problem with scheduling is the tardiness. Total tardiness is the performance to minimize tardiness jobs. it is the right performance if there is a due date. This study proposes the Cross-Entropy Genetic Algorithm (CEGA) method to minimize the mean tardiness in the flow shop problem. In some literature, the CEGA algorithm is used in the case of minimizing the makespan. However, CEGA not used in the case of minimizing total tardiness. CEGA algorithm is a combination of the Cross-Entropy Algorithm which has a function to provide optimal sampling distribution and Genetic Algorithms that have functions to get new solutions. In some numeric experiments, the proposed algorithm provides better performance than some algorithms. For computing time, it is affected by the number of iterations.
