Feedback vibration control of a base-isolated building with delayed measurements using h∞ techniques

    Get PDF
n this paper we address the problem of vibration reduction of buildings with delayed measurements, where the delays are time-varying and bounded. We focus on a convex optimization approach to the problem of state-feedback H ∞ control design. An appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and some free weighting matrices are used to establish some delay-range-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of desired controllers in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The controller, which guarantees asymptotic stability and an H ∞ performance, simultaneously, for the closed-loop system of the structure, is then developed. The performance of the controller is evaluated through the simulation of an n-story base-isolated building

Positivity of Continuous-Time Descriptor Systems With Time Delays

    Get PDF
This technical note is concerned with positivity characteristic of continuous-time descriptor systems with time delays. First, a set of necessary and sufficient conditions is presented to check the property. Then, considering a descriptor time-delay system with two assumptions, a new time-delay system is established whose positivity is equivalent to that of the original system. Furthermore, a set of necessary and sufficient conditions is provided to check the positivity of the new system. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the validity of the results obtained

Design of reduced-order state/unknown input observers: a descriptor system approach

This paper addresses the problem of estimating simultaneously a linear function of both the state and unknown input of linear system with unknown inputs. By adopting the descriptor system approach, the problem can be conveniently solved. Observers proposed in this paper are of low-order and do not include the derivatives of the outputs. New conditions for the existence of reduced-order observers are derived. A design procedure for the determination of the observer parameters can also be easily derived based on the derived existence conditions <br /

Simple stability conditions of linear discrete time systems with multiple delay

    Get PDF
In this paper we have established a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii method for linear discrete time systems with multiple time delay. Based on this method, two sufficient conditions for delay-independent asymptotic stability of the linear discrete time systems with multiple delays are derived in the shape of Lyapunov inequality. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the applicability of the present approach

A new criterion of delay-dependent asymptotic stability for Hopfield neural networks with time delay

    Get PDF
In this brief, the problem of global asymptotic stability for delayed Hopfield neural networks (HNNs) is investigated. A new criterion of asymptotic stability is derived by introducing a new kind of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and is formulated in terms of a linear matrix inequality (LMI), which can be readily solved via standard software. This new criterion based on a delay fractioning approach proves to be much less conservative and the conservatism could be notably reduced by thinning the delay fractioning. An example is provided to show the effectiveness and the advantage of the proposed result. © 2008 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Delay-dependent L2-L∞ model reduction for polytopic systems with time-varying delay

    Get PDF
This paper considers the L2-L∞ model reduction problems for polytopic system with time-varying delay. In terms of the solution of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and inverse constraints, sufficient conditions are presented to construct the reduced order models such that the L2-L∞ gain of the error system between the full order model and the reduced order one is less than a given scalar.published_or_final_versio
