    Localization in Long-range Ultra Narrow Band IoT Networks using RSSI

    Internet of things wireless networking with long range, low power and low throughput is raising as a new paradigm enabling to connect trillions of devices efficiently. In such networks with low power and bandwidth devices, localization becomes more challenging. In this work we take a closer look at the underlying aspects of received signal strength indicator (RSSI) based localization in UNB long-range IoT networks such as Sigfox. Firstly, the RSSI has been used for fingerprinting localization where RSSI measurements of GPS anchor nodes have been used as landmarks to classify other nodes into one of the GPS nodes classes. Through measurements we show that a location classification accuracy of 100% is achieved when the classes of nodes are isolated. When classes are approaching each other, our measurements show that we can still achieve an accuracy of 85%. Furthermore, when the density of the GPS nodes is increasing, we can rely on peer-to-peer triangulation and thus improve the possibility of localizing nodes with an error less than 20m from 20% to more than 60% of the nodes in our measurement scenario. 90% of the nodes is localized with an error of less than 50m in our experiment with non-optimized anchor node locations.Comment: Accepted in ICC 17.     Using Machine Learning for In-Out decision accuracy for venue owner definable services

    Presence confirmation for being inside certain venue becomes matter of more importance when venue owner might have option to restrict or to provide value added contents for the user per its presence in a given venue during a given time window. In this paper, machine learning is applied to find the confidence of decision about a User Equipment (UE) presence inside a designated venue based on the accumulated data set used for learning. 20 UEs are used such that some are placed inside venue and other outside to collect data set to be used for ML algorithms. The outside locations are the possible human movement areas around the venue. The UEs works as reference data collection sources both from outside and inside. The received mobile network info by each UE is collected over extended time. Data is labeled based on the actual positions of the UEs. Using Python, Machine Learning is applied with very encouraging results to conclude the presence confirmation inside venue or the other way around.     EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS FOR FINGERPRINTING INDOOR LOCALIZATION

    One of the most preferred range-free indoor localization methods is the location fingerprinting. In the fingerprinting localization phase machine learning algorithms have widespread usage in estimating positions of the target node. The real challenge in indoor localization systems is to find out the proper machine learning algorithm. In this paper, three different machine learning algorithms for training the fingerprint database were used. We analysed the localization accuracy depending on a fingerprint density and number of line-of-sight (LOS) anchors. Experiments confirmed that Gaussian processes algorithm is superior to all other machine learning algorithms. The results prove that the localization accuracy can be achieved with a sub-decimetre resolution under typical real-world conditions

    Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) Fingerprinting is a remarkable approach developed by modern science to detect the user’s location efficiently. Today, the Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to keep track of our current location for outdoor positioning. In GPS technology, satellite signals cannot reach indoor environments as they are shielded from obstructions so that indoor environments with a lack of Line of Sight (LoS) do not provide enough satellite signal accuracy. Since indoor environments are very difficult to track, thus, a wide variety of techniques for dealing with them have been suggested. The best way to offer an indoor positioning service with the current technology is Wi-Fi since the most commercial infrastructure is well equipped with Wi-Fi routers. For indoor positioning systems (IPS), Wi-Fi fingerprinting approaches are being extremely popular. In this paper, all the approaches for Wi-Fi fingerprinting have been reviewed for indoor position localization. Related to Wi-Fi fingerprinting, most of the algorithms have been interpreted and the previous works of other researchers have been critically analyzed in this paper to get a clear view of the Wi-Fi fingerprinting process

    Optimum NN Algorithms Parameters on the UJIIndoorLoc for Wi-Fi Fingerprinting Indoor Positioning Systems

    Wi-Fi fingerprinting techniques are commonly used in Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) as Wi-Fi signal is available in most indoor settings. In such systems, the position is estimated based on a matching algorithm between the enquiry points and the recorded fingerprint data. In this paper, our objective is to investigate and provide quantitative insight into the performance of various Nearest Neighbour (NN) algorithms. The NN algorithms such as KNN are also often employed in IPS. We extensively study the performance of several NN algorithms on a publicly available dataset, UJIIndoorLoc. Furthermore, we propose an improved version of the Weighted KNN algorithm. The proposed model outperforms the existing works on the UJIIndoorLoc dataset and achieves better results for the success rate and the mean positioning error
