    U+F Social Network Protocol: Achieving interoperability and reusability between Web Based Social Networks

Users may use multiple WBSNs to satisfy their requirements. Besides, operations such as the creation of accounts or the establishment of groups, are repeated in all of them, being a tedious issue. To address this matter, this paper proposes a protocol, based on the UMA core protocol and the FOAF project, to attain interoperability and reusability of resources, identity data and access control policies across different WBSNs.     Context Aware Adaptable Applications - A global approach

    Actual applications (mostly component based) requirements cannot be expressed without a ubiquitous and mobile part for end-users as well as for M2M applications (Machine to Machine). Such an evolution implies context management in order to evaluate the consequences of the mobility and corresponding mechanisms to adapt or to be adapted to the new environment. Applications are then qualified as context aware applications. This first part of this paper presents an overview of context and its management by application adaptation. This part starts by a definition and proposes a model for the context. It also presents various techniques to adapt applications to the context: from self-adaptation to supervised approached. The second part is an overview of architectures for adaptable applications. It focuses on platforms based solutions and shows information flows between application, platform and context. Finally it makes a synthesis proposition with a platform for adaptable context-aware applications called Kalimucho. Then we present implementations tools for software components and a dataflow models in order to implement the Kalimucho platform

    Assessing the Performance of MPI Applications Through Time-Independent Trace Replay

    International audienceSimulation is a popular approach to obtain objective performance indicators platforms that are not at one's disposal. It may help the dimensioning of compute clusters in large computing centers. In this work we present a framework for the off-line simulation of MPI applications. Its main originality with regard to the literature is to rely on time-independent execution traces. This allows us to completely decouple the acquisition process from the actual replay of the traces in a simulation context. Then we are able to acquire traces for large application instances without being limited to an execution on a single compute cluster. Finally our framework is built on top of a scalable, fast, and validated simulation kernel. In this paper, we present the used time-independent trace format, investigate several acquisition strategies, detail the developed trace replay tool, and assess the quality of our simulation framework in terms of accuracy, acquisition time, simulation time, and trace size.La simulation est une approche trĂšs populaire pour obtenir des indicateurs de performances objectifs sur des plates-formes qui ne sont pas disponibles. Cela peut permettre le dimensionnement de grappes de calculs au sein de grands centres de calcul. Dans cet article nous prĂ©sentons un outil de simulation post-mortem d'applications MPI. Sa principale originalitĂ© au regard de la littĂ©rature est d'utiliser des traces d'exĂ©cution indĂ©pendantes du temps. Cela permet de dĂ©coupler intĂ©gralement le processus d'acquisition des traces de celui de rejeu dans un contexte de simulation.     The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration,new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating,their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection.     Amorphous Placement and Informed Diffusion for Timely Monitoring by Autonomous, Resource-Constrained, Mobile Sensors

    Personal communication devices are increasingly equipped with sensors for passive monitoring of encounters and surroundings. We envision the emergence of services that enable a community of mobile users carrying such resource-limited devices to query such information at remote locations in the ïŹeld in which they collectively roam. One approach to implement such a service is directed placement and retrieval (DPR), whereby readings/queries about a specific location are routed to a node responsible for that location. In a mobile, potentially sparse setting, where end-to-end paths are unavailable, DPR is not an attractive solution as it would require the use of delay-tolerant (flooding-based store-carry-forward) routing of both readings and queries, which is inappropriate for applications with data freshness constraints, and which is incompatible with stringent device power/memory constraints. Alternatively, we propose the use of amorphous placement and retrieval (APR), in which routing and ïŹeld monitoring are integrated through the use of a cache management scheme coupled with an informed exchange of cached samples to diffuse sensory data throughout the network, in such a way that a query answer is likely to be found close to the query origin. We argue that knowledge of the distribution of query targets could be used effectively by an informed cache management policy to maximize the utility of collective storage of all devices. Using a simple analytical model, we show that the use of informed cache management is particularly important when the mobility model results in a non-uniform distribution of users over the ïŹeld. We present results from extensive simulations which show that in sparsely-connected networks, APR is more cost-effective than DPR, that it provides extra resilience to node failure and packet losses, and that its use of informed cache management yields superior performance

    Modularity for Large Virtual Reality Applications

    International audienceThis paper focuses on the design of high performance VR applications. These applications usually involve various I/O devices and complex simulations. A parallel architecture or grid infrastructure is required to provide the necessary I/O and processing capabilities. Developing such applications faces several difficulties, two important ones being software engineering and performance issues. We argue that application modularity is a key concept to help the developer handle the complexity of these applications. We discuss how various approaches borrowed from other existing works can be combined to significantly improve the modularity of VR applications. This led to the development of the FlowVR middleware that associates a data-flow model with a hierarchical component model. Different case studies are presented to discuss the benefits of the approach proposed

    A Novel Architecture for Data Management and Control in Autonomous Intelligent Microgrid

    AbstractIntelligent microgrid with distributed energy sources is considered as the next generation grid to mitigate the present day power system issues. Intelligent microgrid should facilitate monitoring and distributed control of the system using smart components. For effective, reliable and intelligent operation of such a system, it needs to use the advanced communication and intelligent information processing techniques. This paper explores the possibility of managing an autonomous intelligent microgrid with prioritized loads, utilizing the existing communication networks to acquire data and manage from a central location. The central control center runs an energy management algorithm, utilizing the load and source data acquired from the clients, to maximize the power delivery to the higher priority loads. The proposed scheme enables the consumers to dynamically set their load priority and fix the rate for selling the power generated by them within the autonomous grid, thereby ensuring consumer participation in the development of power infrastructure. Further, a load management algorithm for the reliable operation of autonomous intelligent microgrid with prioritized loads is proposed and its effectiveness is illustrated with a case study
