Improved Transients in Multiple Frequencies Estimation via Dynamic Regressor Extension and Mixing
A problem of performance enhancement for multiple frequencies estimation is
studied. First, we consider a basic gradient-based estimation approach with
global exponential convergence. Next, we apply dynamic regressor extension and
mixing technique to improve transient performance of the basic approach and
ensure non-strict monotonicity of estimation errors. Simulation results
illustrate benefits of the proposed solution.Comment: This paper is submitted for the ALCOSP 2016 conferenc
IIR Adaptive Filters for Detection of Gravitational Waves from Coalescing Binaries
In this paper we propose a new strategy for gravitational waves detection
from coalescing binaries, using IIR Adaptive Line Enhancer (ALE) filters. This
strategy is a classical hierarchical strategy in which the ALE filters have the
role of triggers, used to select data chunks which may contain gravitational
events, to be further analyzed with more refined optimal techniques, like the
the classical Matched Filter Technique. After a direct comparison of the
performances of ALE filters with the Wiener-Komolgoroff optimum filters
(matched filters), necessary to discuss their performance and to evaluate the
statistical limitation in their use as triggers, we performed a series of
tests, demonstrating that these filters are quite promising both for the
relatively small computational power needed and for the robustness of the
algorithms used. The performed tests have shown a weak point of ALE filters,
that we fixed by introducing a further strategy, based on a dynamic bank of ALE
filters, running simultaneously, but started after fixed delay times. The
results of this global trigger strategy seems to be very promising, and can be
already used in the present interferometers, since it has the great advantage
of requiring a quite small computational power and can easily run in real-time,
in parallel with other data analysis algorithms.Comment: Accepted at SPIE: "Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation". 9

Continuous time controller based on SMC and disturbance observer for piezoelectric actuators
Abstract – In this work, analog application for the Sliding Mode Control (SMC) to piezoelectric actuators (PEA) is presented. DSP application of the algorithm suffers from ADC and DAC conversions and mainly faces limitations in sampling time interval. Moreover piezoelectric actuators are known to have very large bandwidth close to the DSP operation frequency. Therefore, with the direct analog application, improvement of the performance and high frequency operation are expected. Design of an appropriate SMC together with a disturbance observer is suggested to have continuous control output and related experimental results for position tracking are presented with comparison of DSP and analog control application
A parallel prefiltering approach for the identification of a biased sinusoidal signal: theory and experiments
The problem of estimating the amplitude, frequency, and phase of an unknown sinusoidal signal from a noisy-biased measurement is addressed in this paper by a family of parallel prefiltering schemes. The proposed methodology consists in using a pair of linear filters of specified order to generate a suitable number of auxiliary signals that are used to estimate\u2014in an adaptive way\u2014the frequency, the amplitude, and the phase of the sinusoid. Increasing the order of the prefilters improves the noise immunity of the estimator, at the cost of an increase of the computational complexity. Among the whole family of estimators realizable by varying the order of the filters, the simple parallel prefilters of orders 2 C 2 and 3 C 3 are discussed in
detail, being the most attractive from the implementability point of view. The behavior of the two algorithms with respect to bounded external disturbances is characterized by input-to-state stability arguments. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed technique is shown both by comparative numerical simulations and by a real experiment addressing the estimation of the frequency of the electrical mains from a noisy voltage measurement
Multivariable Adaptive Harmonic Steady-State Control for Rejection of Sinusoidal Disturbances Acting on an Unknown System
This paper presents an adaptive harmonic steady-state (AHSS) controller,
which addresses the problem of rejecting sinusoids with known frequencies that
act on a completely unknown multi-input multi-output linear time-invariant
system. We analyze the stability and closed-loop performance of AHSS for
single-input single-output systems. In this case, we show that AHSS
asymptotically rejects disturbances.Comment: 6 pages, 2016 American Control Conference (ACC). IEEE, 201
