Abstract: In this paper, a new multi-swarm method is proposed for multiobjective particle swarm optimization. To enhance the Pareto front searching ability of PSO, the particles are divided into many swarms. Several swarms are dynamically searching the objective space around some points of the Pareto front set. The rest of particles are searching the space keeping away from the Pareto front to improve the global search ability. Simulation results and comparisons with existing Multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization methods demonstrate that the proposed method effectively enhances the search efficiency and improves the search quality.Originally presented at 2011 International Conference on Intelligent Computing, Zhengzhou, China 11-14 August, 2011

Abstract: To improve the optimization performance of multi-objective particle swarm optimization, a new sub-swarm method, where the particles are divided into several sub-swarms, is proposed. To enhance the quality of the Pareto front set, a new adaptive sharing scheme, which depends on the distances from nearest neighbouring individuals, is proposed and applied. In this method, the first sub-swarms particles dynamically search their corresponding areas which are around some points of the Pareto front set in the objective space, and the chosen points of the Pareto front set are determined based on the adaptive sharing scheme. The second sub-swarm particles search the rest objective space, and they are away from the Pareto front set, which can promote the global search ability of the method. Moreover, the core points of the first sub-swarms are dynamically determined by this new adaptive sharing scheme. Some Simulations are used to test the proposed method, and the results show that the proposed method can achieve better optimization performance comparing with some existing methods

MaOMFO: Many-objective moth flame optimizer using reference-point based non-dominated sorting mechanism for global optimization problems

Many-objective optimization (MaO) deals with a large number of conflicting objectives in optimization problems to acquire a reliable set of appropriate non-dominated solutions near the true Pareto front, and for the same, a unique mechanism is essential. Numerous papers have reported multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to explain the absence of convergence and diversity variety in many-objective optimization problems. One of the most encouraging methodologies utilizes many reference points to segregate the solutions and guide the search procedure. The above-said methodology is integrated into the basic version of the Moth Flame Optimization (MFO) algorithm for the first time in this paper. The proposed Many-Objective Moth Flame Optimization (MaOMFO) utilizes a set of reference points progressively decided by the hunt procedure of the moth flame. It permits the calculation to combine with the Pareto front yet synchronize the decent variety of the Pareto front. MaOMFO is employed to solve a wide range of unconstrained and constrained benchmark functions and compared with other competitive algorithms, such as non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm, multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on dominance and decomposition, and novel multi-objective particle swarm optimization using different performance metrics. The results demonstrate the superiority of the algorithm as a new many-objective algorithm for complex many-objective optimization problems

Application of a new multi-agent Hybrid Co-evolution based Particle Swarm Optimisation methodology in ship design

In this paper, a multiple objective 'Hybrid Co-evolution based Particle Swarm Optimisation' methodology (HCPSO) is proposed. This methodology is able to handle multiple objective optimisation problems in the area of ship design, where the simultaneous optimisation of several conflicting objectives is considered. The proposed method is a hybrid technique that merges the features of co-evolution and Nash equilibrium with a ε-disturbance technique to eliminate the stagnation. The method also offers a way to identify an efficient set of Pareto (conflicting) designs and to select a preferred solution amongst these designs. The combination of co-evolution approach and Nash-optima contributes to HCPSO by utilising faster search and evolution characteristics. The design search is performed within a multi-agent design framework to facilitate distributed synchronous cooperation. The most widely used test functions from the formal literature of multiple objectives optimisation are utilised to test the HCPSO. In addition, a real case study, the internal subdivision problem of a ROPAX vessel, is provided to exemplify the applicability of the developed method

Improved dynamical particle swarm optimization method for structural dynamics

A methodology to the multiobjective structural design of buildings based on an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is presented, which has proved to be very efficient and robust in nonlinear problems and when the optimization objectives are in conflict. In particular, the behaviour of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) classical algorithm is improved by dynamically adding autoadaptive mechanisms that enhance the exploration/exploitation trade-off and diversity of the proposed algorithm, avoiding getting trapped in local minima. A novel integrated optimization system was developed, called DI-PSO, to solve this problem which is able to control and even improve the structural behaviour under seismic excitations. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the methodology is tested against some benchmark problems. Then a 3-story-building model is optimized under different objective cases, concluding that the improved multiobjective optimization methodology using DI-PSO is more efficient as compared with those designs obtained using single optimization.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Memetic Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization-Based Energy-Aware Virtual Network Embedding

In cloud infrastructure, accommodating multiple virtual networks on a single physical network reduces power consumed by physical resources and minimizes cost of operating cloud data centers. However, mapping multiple virtual network resources to physical network components, called virtual network embedding (VNE), is known to be NP-hard. With considering energy efficiency, the problem becomes more complicated. In this paper, we model energy-aware virtual network embedding, devise metrics for evaluating performance of energy aware virtual network-embedding algorithms, and propose an energy aware virtual network-embedding algorithm based on multi-objective particle swarm optimization augmented with local search to speed up convergence of the proposed algorithm and improve solutions quality. Performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with existing algorithms using extensive simulations, which show that the proposed algorithm improves virtual network embedding by increasing revenue and decreasing energy consumption.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1504.0684

    Bat Algorithm for Multi-objective Optimisation

Engineering optimization is typically multiobjective and multidisciplinary with complex constraints, and the solution of such complex problems requires efficient optimization algorithms. Recently, Xin-She Yang proposed a bat-inspired algorithm for solving nonlinear, global optimisation problems. In this paper, we extend this algorithm to solve multiobjective optimisation problems. The proposed multiobjective bat algorithm (MOBA) is first validated against a subset of test functions, and then applied to solve multiobjective design problems such as welded beam design. Simulation results suggest that the proposed algorithm works efficiently.Comment: 12 pages. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1004.417
