    Visualization designs for constraint logic programming

    We address the design and implementation of visual paradigms for observing the execution of constraint logic programs, aiming at debugging, tuning and optimization, and teaching. We focus on the display of data in CLP executions, where representation for constrained variables and for the constrains themselves are seeked. Two tools, VIFID and TRIFID, exemplifying the devised depictions, have been implemented, and are used to showcase the usefulness of the visualizations developed

    Some paradigms for visualizing parallel execution of logic programs

    This paper addresses the design of visual paradigms for observing the parallel execution of logic programs. First, an intuitive method is proposed for arriving at the design of a paradigm and its implementation as a tool for a given model of parallelism. This method is based on stepwise reñnement starting from the deñnition of basic notions such as events and observables and some precedence relationships among events which hold for the given model of parallelism. The method is then applied to several types of parallel execution models for logic programs (Orparallelism, Determinate Dependent And parallelism, Restricted and-parallelism) for which visualization paradigms are designed. Finally, VisAndOr, a tool which implements all of these paradigms is presented, together with a discussion of its usefulness through examples

    AbstractDebugging by observing the evaluation of expressions and functions is a useful approach for finding bugs in lazy functional and functional logic programs. However, adding and removing observation annotations to a program is an effort making the use of this debugging technique in practice uncomfortable. Having tool support for managing observations is desirable. We developed a tool that provides this ability for programmers. Without annotating expressions in a program, the evaluation of functions, data structures and arbitrary subexpressions can be observed by selecting them from a tree-structure representing the whole program. Furthermore, the tool provides a step by step performing of observations where each observation is shown in a separated viewer. Beside searching bugs, the tool can be used to assist beginners in learning the non-deterministic behavior of lazy functional logic programs. To find a surrounding area that contains the failure, the tool can furthermore show the executed part of the program by marking the expressions that are activated during program execution

    Implementation of an event driven scheme for visualizing parallel execution of logic programs

    This article presents in an informal way some early results on the design of a series of paradigms for visualization of the parallel execution of logic programs. The results presented here refer to the visualization of or-parallelism, as in MUSE and Aurora, deterministic dependent and-parallelism, as in Andorra-I, and independent and-parallelism as in &-Prolog. A tool has been implemented for this purpose and has been interfaced with these systems. Results are presented showing the visualization of executions from these systems and the usefulness of the resulting tool is briefly discussed

    Slovenian Virtual Gallery on the Internet

    The Slovenian Virtual Gallery (SVG) is a World Wide Web based multimedia collection of pictures, text, clickable-maps and video clips presenting Slovenian fine art from the gothic period up to the present days. Part of SVG is a virtual gallery space where pictures hang on the walls while another part is devoted to current exhibitions of selected Slovenian art galleries. The first version of this application was developed in the first half of 1995. It was based on a file system for storing all the data and custom developed software for search, automatic generation of HTML documents, scaling of pictures and remote management of the system. Due to the fast development of Web related tools a new version of SVG was developed in 1997 based on object-oriented relational database server technology. Both implementations are presented and compared in this article with issues related to the transion between the two versions. At the end, we will also discuss some extensions to SVG. We will present the GUI (Graphical User Interface) developed specially for presentation of current exhibitions over the Web which is based on GlobalView panoramic navigation extension to developed Internet Video Server (IVS). And since SVG operates with a lot of image data, we will confront with the problem of Image Content Retrieval
