    Relationship between eruptions of active-region filaments and associated flares and CMEs

    To better understand the dynamical process of active-region filament eruptions and associated flares and CMEs, we carried out a statistical study of 120 events observed by BBSO, TRACE, and t(SOHO/EIT) from 1998 to 2007 and combined filament observations with the NOAA's flare reports, MDI magnetograms, and LASCO data, to investigate the relationship between active-region filament eruptions and other solar activities. We found that 115 out of 120 filament eruptions are associated with flares. 56 out of 105 filament eruptions are found to be associated with CMEs except for 15 events without corresponding LASCO data. We note the limitation of coronagraphs duo to geometry or sensitivity, leading to many smaller CMEs that are Earth-directed or well out of the plane of sky not being detected by near-Earth spacecraft. Excluding those without corresponding LASCO data, the CME association rate of active-region filament eruptions clearly increases with X-ray flare class from about 32% for C-class flares to 100% for X-class flares. The eruptions of active-region filaments associated with Halo CMEs are often accompanied by large flares. About 92% events associated with X-class flare are associated with Halo CMEs. Such a result is due to that the Earth-directed CMEs detected as Halo CMEs are often the larger CMEs and many of the smaller ones are not detected because of the geometry and low intensity. The average speed of the associated CMEs of filament eruptions increases with X-ray flare size from 563.7 km/s for C-class flares to 1506.6 km/s for X-class flares. Moreover, the magnetic emergence and cancellation play an important role in triggering filament eruptions. These findings may be instructive to not only in respect to the modeling of active-region filament eruptions but also in predicting flares and CMEs.Comment: 19 Pages, 7 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRA

    Differences in treatment for substance use disorders by insurance status: Self-help only versus outpatient medical treatment

    Background: The role of insurance on substance use disorders (SUD) treatment utilization generally is poorly understood and still less is known on how insurance status relates to the use of evidence-based treatment (i.e., medicalization approach) compared to other treatments, like single self-help groups, where the research on effectiveness is less supportive. This study examines associations between health insurance and any SUD treatment utilization as well as use of single self- help versus medicalization approach. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used. Data were from the 2015-2017, public use National Surveys on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). Adjusted logistic regressions were used to examine the associations controlling for socio-demographics, recent major depressive episode, and survey year. All analyses used survey weights to be representative of the US population and account for the NSDUH’s complex survey design. Results: After adjustment for covariates, those with publicly insured remained more likely to use any SUD treatment in the past year (odd ratio [OR] 1.82; 95% CI: 1.36-2.43), compared to those without insurance. Further, compared with uninsured, those with public insurance reported lower odds of using only self-help treatment (OR 0.42; 95% CI: 0.23-0.74) versus medicalization approach utilization. Conclusions: Publicly insured persons with SUD are more likely to use SUD treatment in the past year than the uninsured.     Spectrum of malignancies among the population of adults living with HIV infection in China: A nationwide follow-up study, 2008-2011.

    BackgroundAlthough increasingly studied in high-income countries, there is a paucity of data from the Chinese population on the patterns of cancer among people living with HIV (PLHIV).MethodsWe conducted a nationwide follow-up study using routinely collected data for adult PLHIV diagnosed on or before 31 December 2011 and alive and in care as of 1 January 2008. Participants were observed from 1 January 2008 (study start) to 30 June 2012 (study end). Main outcome measures were gender-stratified age-standardized incidence rates for China (ASIRC) and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) for all malignancy types/sites observed.ResultsAmong 399,451 subjects, a majority was aged 30-44 years (49.3%), male (69.8%), and Han Chinese (67.9%). A total of 3,819 reports of cancer were identified. Overall, ASIRC was 776.4 per 100,000 for males and 486.5 per 100,000 for females. Malignancy sites/types with highest ASIRC among males were lung (226.0 per 100,000), liver (145.7 per 100,000), and lymphoma (63.1 per 100,000), and among females were lung (66.8 per 100,000), lymphoma (48.0 per 100,000), stomach (47.8 per 100,000), and cervix (47.6 per 100,000). Overall SIR for males was 3.4 and for females was 2.6. Highest SIR was observed for Kaposi sarcoma (2,639.8 for males, 1,593.5 for females) and lymphoma (13.9 for males, 16.0 for females).ConclusionsThese results provide evidence of substantial AIDS-defining and non-AIDS-defining cancer burden among adult Chinese PLHIV between 2008 and 2011. Although further study is warranted, China should take action to improve cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment for this vulnerable population

    Introduction: Vitiligo is one of the pigmantary skin disorders, which resulted from melanocyte destruction .vitiligo involved 1% of world population. There are various hypotheses to prove it, such as autoimmunity.vitiligo showed itself by amelonitic white macules in different areas of skin. Although there are a lot of therapeutic modalities for vitiligo but they aren't satisfactory. high_dose corticosteroids is well-established but has a lot of serious side-effects. this study was done to evaluate The effectiveness of oral low_dose corticosteroids and topical corticosteroids together in the treatment of vitiligo patients. Methods: We used comparative before_after study. we studied the patients who have actively spreading vitiligo. The duration disease was less than 1 year and patient who have more than 15 years old age entered to the study. We used oral and topical corticosteroids together for six months. the patient took daily doses of oral prednisolone(0.3 mg/kg body weight)initially for the first 2 months ,the dosage was then reduced to (0.15 mg/kg body weight)for second 2 months and reduced again to(0.075 mg/kg body weight) for the third 3 months. we used fluocinolone as topical steroids twice a day for all 6 months. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS software. Results: 12 patients were male and 18 were female, the average of patient's age was 26.511.before starting the study the size of all vitiligo maculs surface was 563.7 cm2, but at the end of study, it reduced to 298.8 cm2. the reduction of lesion size in 27.58% of patient was 80% and more, in 37.93% of patient was between 60_80%and in 33.3% of patients was less than 60%.the most common side _effect was steroidal acne. Conclusion: The results prove that oral low_dose corticosteroids and topical corticosteroids together is a effective therapeutic way in vitiligo with less than 1 year duration and doesn't lead to serious side effects. And this way is proper for preventing the progression and decreasing the size of vitiligo

It builds on the concept of stream processing to structure dynamically evolving networks of communicating asynchronous components. Components themselves are implemented using a conventional language suitable for the application domain. This two-level software architecture maintains a familiar sequential development environment for large parts of an application and offers a high-level declarative approach to component coordination. In this paper we present a conservative language extension for the placement of components and component networks in a multi-memory environment, i.e. architectures that associate individual compute cores or groups thereof with private memories. We describe a novel distributed runtime system layer that complements our existing multithreaded runtime system for shared memory multicores. Particular emphasis is put on efficient management of data communication. Last not least, we present preliminary experimental data
