Volunteer Computing Simulation Using Repast And Mason

    Get PDF
Volunteer environments usually consist of a large number of computing nodes, with highly dynamic characteristics, therefore reliable models for a planning ofthe whole computing are highly desired. An easy to implement approach to mo-delling and simulation of such environments may employ agent-based universalsimulation frameworks, such as RePast or MASON. In the course of the paperthe above-mentioned simulation frameworks are adapted to support simulationof volunteer computing. After giving implementation details, selected resultsconcerning computing time and speedup are given and are compared with theones obtained from an actual volunteer environment

Evidence for B- -> tau- nu_bar with a Semileptonic Tagging Method

We present a measurement of the decay B- -> tau- nu_bar using a data sample containing 657 million BB_bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. A sample of BB_bar pairs are tagged by reconstructing one B meson decaying semileptonically. We detect the B- -> tau- nu_bar candidate in the recoil. We obtain a signal with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and measure the branching fraction to be Br(B- -> tau- nu_bar) = [1.54+0.38-0.37(stat)+0.29-0.31(syst)]*10^-4. This result confirms the evidence for B- -> tau- nu_bar obtained in a previous Belle measurement that used a hadronic B tagging method.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, corrected references, to appear in PRD-R

Self-organizing migrating algorithm in model predictive control: Case study on semi-batch chemical reactor

    Get PDF
Control of complex nonlinear systems brings challenges in the controller design. One of methods how to cope with this challenge is the usage of advanced optimization methods. This work presents application of self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA) in control of the semi-batch reactor. The reactor is used in chromium recycling process in leather industry. Because of the complexity of this semi-batch reactor control, the model predictive control (MPC) approach is used. The MPC controller includes self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA) for the optimization of the control sequence

Drought Risk Management in Reflect Changing of Meteorological Conditions

    Get PDF
Droughts are one of the main extreme meteorological, and hydrological phenomena, which influence both the functioning of ecosystems, and many important sectors of human economic activity. Throughout the world, various direct changes in meteorological, and climatic conditions, such as: air temperature, humidity, and evapotranspiration can be observed. They have a significant influence upon the shaping of the phenomenon of drought. Land cover and land use can also be indirect factors influencing evapotranspiration, and, by the same token, the water balance in the water catchment area. They can also influence the course of the process of the drought. The observed climate change, manifested mainly by increases in temperature, in turn, influencing evapotranspiration, may cause intensification in terms of both the degree and frequency of droughts. Droughts related to changes in the hydrological regime, and to the decrease in water resources. Its results can be observed in various sectors, related, among others, to a demand for water for people, agriculture and the Industry. It can also prove problematic for water ecosystems. To reflect the aforementioned information, a reasonable drought risk management is indispensable in order to ease the water demand related problems in various sectors of human activity. This book presents original research on various drought indicators, modern measurement techniques used, among others, for monitoring and predicting droughts, drought indicator trends, the impact of insufficient precipitation on human activity in the context of climate change, and examples of modern solutions devised to prevent water shortages

Search for Z′ →μ+μ- in the Lμ-Lτ gauge-symmetric model at Belle

    Get PDF
We search for a new gauge boson Z′ that couples only to heavy leptons and their corresponding neutrinos in the process e+e-→Z′(→μ+μ-)μ+μ-, using a 643 fb-1 data sample collected by the Belle experiment at or near the ϒ(1S,2S,3S,4S,5S) resonances at the KEKB collider. While previous searches for Z′ performed a data-based estimation of the initial state radiation effect, our search for the Z′ is the first to include effects due to initial state radiation in the signal simulated samples that were used in estimating the detection efficiency. No signal is observed in the Z′ mass range of 0.212-10 GeV/c2, and we set an upper limit on the coupling strength, g′, constraining the possible Z′ contribution to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of the muon

Business Process Simulation: A Systematic Literature Review

    Get PDF
Business process simulation marks an essential Business Process Management technique for analysing business processes and for reasoning about process improvement. Despite its importance, literature is lacking a comprehensive, updated overview of research contributions to the field of business process simulation. In this systematic literature review, we assess the present state of research on business process simulation including prior work between 1990 and 2016. Results reported in the present study assist in advancing the discussion on future research on business process simulation by compiling and analysing prior work. The present literature review focuses on prior research involving conceptual business process models, e.g., BPMN models, with a graphical model representation as a starting point for business process simulation and excludes other foundations to build simulation models

Conceptual foundations of entrepreneurial strategy: A systematic literature review

    Get PDF
Objective: The objective of the article is to contribute to a greater and deeper understanding of the ES conceptualisation. The relevance of the topic of Entrepreneurial Strategy (ES) stems from growing interest of society in entrepreneurship, which has become extensively discussed although the concept of ES is still poorly understood. Research Design & Methods: A systematic literature review (SLR) referring to 427 articles from the Web of Science and Scopus databases was conducted. Findings: The results made it possible to identify five ES conceptual foundations: i) economic theory and entrepreneurship; ii) entrepreneurial strategies, concept – theory; iii) entrepreneurial strategies, framework – models; iv) entrepreneurial strategies, contexts – application; and v) entrepreneurial strategies, application - metrics. Implications & Recommendations: This SLR can help to highlight the gap in theories on ES, its conceptualisation and the fundamentals found in the literature. A research agenda is suggested for each ES foundation identified. Contribution & Value Added: The study is innovative given there have been no other identified SLR studies on the ES concept. The study attempts to contribute towards the literature by offering a model of interactions of the ES foundations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
