The collection of the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., is second only to that of The Natural History Museum (formerly British Museum of Natural History), London, in the number of type specimens of the superfamily Gelechioidea (Lepidoptera). The Smithsonian houses 1,375 gelechioid types: 1,249 holotypes, 48 lectotypes, 1 neotype, 69 species represented by one or more syntypes, and 8 species represented by one or more pseudotypes (Le., specimens identified as type by an accompanying label that are unlikely to be the type). Three former curators are responsible for the vast majority of the type specimens: August Busck, ]. F. Gates Clarke, and Ronald W. Hodges. We present a list of the species for which a type is deposited in the USNM, organized alphabetically. For each species we provide an abbreviated reference to the original description and label data. This list represents the second contribution to a larger effort to make available information on the Lepidoptera type holdings of the USNM

An algorithm for the selection of route dependent orientation information

Landmarks are important features of spatial cognition and are naturally included in human route descriptions. In the past algorithms were developed to select the most salient landmarks at decision points and automatically incorporate them in route instructions. Moreover, it was shown that human route descriptions contain a significant amount of orientation information, which support the users to orient themselves regarding known environmental information, and it was shown that orientation information support the acquisition of survey knowledge. Thus, there is a need to extend the landmarks selection to automatically select orientation information. In this work, we present an algorithm for the computational selection of route dependent orientation information, which extends previous algorithms and includes a salience calculation of orientation information for any location along the route. We implemented the algorithm and demonstrate the functionality based on OpenStreetMap data

This dissertation is a research of the visual poetry of Cuban artist Ana Mendieta (Cuba 1948 - EUA 1985), during the period when she attended the University of Iowa (1970 - 1977), establishing relations between her works and the art system, beyond borders issues, dematerialization of the art object, identity and politics. The text is divided into three chapters. In the first one, the artist and her production are located in the art system during the periods of her artistic production and after her death. The second, there is an explanation of the idea that the power source of her works lies in the frontier condition of the "between". And it emphasizes her hybrid production, which the artist named as Earth-body sculptures, a mixture of conceptual art, performance, land art, sculpture, film and photography, and a variation of the appearance of the woman's body and the female body in the landscape. In the third, it investigates the processes of creation and production of images in slides and films in Super 8, proposing a displacement of these materials from the category registry and blurring the boundaries between documentation and non-narrative filmmaker, considering the processes and materiality of the films ans sculptures as traces, intermissions and bordersMestradoArtes VisuaisMestra em Artes Visuai
