After long-term rises, over the last decade age-standardised mortality from most common cancer sites has fallen in the European Union (EU). For males, the fall was 11% for lung and intestines, 12% for bladder, 6% for oral cavity and pharynx, and 5% for oesophagus. For females, the fall was 7% for breast and 21% for intestines. There were also persisting declines in stomach cancer (30% in both sexes), uterus (mainly cervix, -26%) and leukaemias (-10%). Mortality rates for other common neoplasms, including pancreas for both sexes, prostate and ovary, tended to stabilise. The only unfavourable trends were observed for female lung cancer (+15%). Lung cancer rates in women from the EU are approximately one-third of those in the USA, and 50% lower than breast cancer rates in the EU. Lung cancer rates in European women have also tended to stabilise below the age of 75 years. Thus, effective interventions on tobacco control could, in principle, avoid a major lung cancer epidemic in European wome

RELASI ALKHAIRAAT-NU DI MANADO TAHUN 1955-1998 (Studi Pertemuan Antara Alkhairaat dan NU dalam Konteksd Ideologi Sosio-kultiral)

Abstract. Alkhairaat and NU are two different organizations and structures. NU is active in various fields with not small political dimensions, while Alkhairaat focuses on education and da'wah. But in Manado it is interesting, the Islamic community considers that Alkhairaat is an embryo of NU. This is certainly related to the historical-sociological factors of these two institutions born in the local context. This study wants to answer two questions; First, what is the background of the relationship between Alkhairaat and NU in Manado in 1955-1998 and what is the dynamics and pattern characteristics of the Alkhairaat relationship with NU in Manado during 1955-1998. Temporally, this research was restricted from 1955 because this year Alkhairaat built its social relations with NU, which at that time was the party participating in the first election in Indonesia. The final limitation of the study was set in 1998 because this year there was a change in the body of NU by declaring the PKB as a party formed by and for NU citizens, but open to anyone including non-Muslims. This caused conflict in the Alkhairaat-NU relationship in Manado, Keywords:NU, Alkhairaat, Manado, Education, Da'wah, Historical-Sociological Abstrak.

In the current study we replicate and cross-validate these type 2 diabetes clusters in three large cohorts using variables readily measured in the clinic. In three independent cohorts, in total 15,940 individuals were clustered based on age, BMI, HbA 1c , random or fasting C-peptide, and HDL-cholesterol. Clusters were cross-validated against the original clusters based on HOMA measures. In addition, between cohorts, clusters were cross-validated by re-assigning people based on each cohort's cluster centres. Finally, we compared the time to insulin requirement for each cluster. Five distinct type 2 diabetes clusters were identified and mapped back to the original four All New Diabetics in Scania (ANDIS) clusters. Using C-peptide and HDL-cholesterol instead of HOMA2-B and HOMA2-IR, three of the clusters mapped with high sensitivity (80.6-90.7%) to the previously identified severe insulin-deficient diabetes (SIDD), severe insulin-resistant diabetes (SIRD) and mild obesity-related diabetes (MOD) clusters. The previously described ANDIS mild age-related diabetes (MARD) cluster could be mapped to the two milder groups in our study: one characterised by high HDL-cholesterol (mild diabetes with high HDL-cholesterol [MDH] cluster), and the other not having any extreme characteristic (mild diabetes [MD]). When these two milder groups were combined, they mapped well to the previously labelled MARD cluster (sensitivity 79.1%). In the cross-validation between cohorts, particularly the SIDD and MDH clusters cross-validated well, with sensitivities ranging from 73.3% to 97.1%. SIRD and MD showed a lower sensitivity, ranging from 36.1% to 92.3%, where individuals shifted from SIRD to MD and vice versa. People belonging to the SIDD cluster showed the fastest progression towards insulin requirement, while the MDH cluster showed the slowest progression. Clusters based on C-peptide instead of HOMA2 measures resemble those based on HOMA2 measures, especially for SIDD, SIRD and MOD. By adding HDL-cholesterol, the MARD cluster based upon HOMA2 measures resulted in the current clustering into two clusters, with one cluster having high HDL levels. Cross-validation between cohorts showed generally a good resemblance between cohorts. Together, our results show that the clustering based on clinical variables readily measured in the clinic (age, HbA 1c , HDL-cholesterol, BMI and C-peptide) results in informative clusters that are representative of the original ANDIS clusters and stable across cohorts. Adding HDL-cholesterol to the clustering resulted in the identification of a cluster with very slow glycaemic deterioration

Autorka przeprowadziła analizę zmian sylwetki damskiej w latach 1955-1998 na podstawie badań materiału tekstowego i ilustracyjnego zawartego w kwartalniku „Moda”. Uwagę czytelnika skierowano przede wszystkim na sukienki, najbardziej charakterystyczny asortyment kobiecej szafy. Autorka skatalogowała wybrane modele sukienek, a następnie porównała style każdej z nich na przestrzeni lat. Dzięki tej pracy możemy poznać obraz mody polskiej kobiety w okresie PRL.Udostępnienie publikacji Wydawnictwa Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego finansowane w ramach projektu „Doskonałość naukowa kluczem do doskonałości kształcenia”.
