The Library of Łódź University – 1945–1980
Dynamika systematycznego wzrostu, nowoczesna przestrzeń intelektu, labirynt znaków, magia zaangażowanych w swoją pracę ludzi z pasją – to tylko kilka haseł, które przychodzą na myśl, kiedy chcemy przywołać nazwę Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego i 70 lat jej historii. Łódź przed dwoma wiekami powstawała z tradycji niejednorodnych, i podobnie powstawał – jako mozaika różnych treści intelektualnych – Uniwersytet Łódzki. In the first period (1945–1980), the most important problem was the premises; the Library was situated in few small rooms. In 1960, the Library was moved to the new, modern building on Jan Matejko Street. Then, the full functionality of the Library could be started with the examples of The Sections of Special Collections, which constitute a specific and separate part in every scientific library, and The Scientific Information Department, started to develop their activities. The whole network of the branch libraries was organized then

Eucharistic Liturgies Of The Church of England 1945-1980
This thesis examines the 'development of Anglican Eucharistic theology from 1945 to the present day as shown by the texts used for the Service of Holy Communion. Both authorized and unauthorized Orders as well as official publications are used as primary sources.
In order to gain insight into the meanings of the texts, the debates of the Convocations, the National Assembly of the Church of England, and the General Synod which concerned the Orders are looked at very closely. The writings of the members of the Liturgical Commission of the General Synod are given special consideration. Also used are the various books and pamphlets which appeared as commentaries on the new Orders (often before authorization), especially where they reflected the position of the Catholic or Evangelical wings of the Church of England.
The thesis shows how the Church of England progressed towards the Alternative Service Book and shows how the theological emphases of the Church of England moved, or were perceived to move.
The conclusion is drawn that the Church of England has developed from the Book of Common Prayer, fixed in what might be called 'the Cranmerian position', to the Alternative Service Book which deliberately allows individuals to take part in the Eucharistic Mystery with varying insights into its theology
The Gospel of Psychology: Therapeutic Concepts and the Scientification of Pastoral Care in the West German Catholic Church, 1945-1980
As Friedrich Wilhelm Graf has argued, any thorough assessment of religious change in the twentieth century has to pay attention to the interplay between the established churches and social forces in fields of society as different as the media, the economy, the arts, and the sciences. It is the aim of this article to stress both the emergence and the importance of hybrids between organized religion and the human sciences in the decades since the 1950s. I take the Catholic Church in the Federal Republic as a perhaps somewhat unlikely but also illuminating example, although all major Christian denominations both in Germany and in other Western European countries have made ample use of social science methods such as statistics, sociology, and opinion-polling during that period. From the broad range of scientific approaches employed by the Catholic Church, the focus of this article is on the use of psychological techniques used for purposes of therapeutic intervention, or, in Anglo-Saxon parlance, counseling. The emerging psychologization of religious topics and pastoral action is seen as merely one example of the immense significance that the “psy disciplines” of psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and psychology have attained within the forms of knowledge and practice deployed to describe the “Self.” This process can also be interpreted as a particularly striking example of the “scientification of the social” in the twentieth century, that is, of the process in which human science concepts have shaped new terms and categories for the description of social contexts and offered forms of practical intervention in social problems
