Łódź przed dwoma wiekami powstawała z tradycji niejednorodnych, i podobnie powstawał – jako mozaika różnych treści intelektualnych – Uniwersytet Łódzki.In the first period (1945–1980), the most important problem was the premises; the Library was situated in few small rooms. In 1960, the Library was moved to the new, modern building on Jan Matejko Street. Then, the full functionality of the Library could be started with the examples of The Sections of Special Collections, which constitute a specific and separate part in every scientific library, and The Scientific Information Department, started to develop their activities.
