Perspective Transformation Theory and the Donald Woods Experience: From Racist to Anti-Apartheid Activist
This paper chronicles White South African journalist Donald Woods’ life (1933-2001) as he transformed from holding racist beliefs that Blacks were “people who were there to be your servants,” to becoming one of his country’s leading anti-apartheid activists. Adult learning and development via perspective transformation theory are explored
Marcel Vigreux (1933-2001)
Extending the Aaron Condition for Alternative Pay-as-You-Go Pension Systems
Welfare comparisons between funded and pay-as-you-go (PAYG) pension systems are often made using the Aaron condition. However, the Aaron condition as usually stated is not precise enough about the exact form of the PAYG pension system. PAYG pension systems can be either of the defined-benefit or defined-contribution variety. They can also differ with regard to intra-generational redistribution. For example, pension benefits can be flat or earnings related. Here, four alternative PAYG pension systems are considered. It is shown that each system generates its own Aaron condition. In addition, the standard Aaron condition assumes that the wage rate and labor participation rate does not vary across individuals and that the rate of population growth is constant and exogenous. These assumptions are also relaxed. Using US data covering the period 1933-2001, I then show that the results of comparisons between PAYG and funded systems depend critically on exactly which variety of PAYG system is being compared, and that PAYG systems are becoming less attractive over time as fertility rates decline.Aaron Condition; Pay-As-You-Go Pension; Funded Pension; Defined Contribution; Defined Benefit; Labor Participation Rate; Fertility Rate

COLLECTION 0028: Lee Roy and Lucille Erickson Collection, 1933-2001
The Lee Roy and Lucille Erickson Collection contains published and unpublished materials collected by Lee Roy and Lucille Erickson. Most materials relate to their involvement with: the Western District of the United Pentecostal Church; Apostolic Bible Church, St. Paul, Minnesota; and Apostolic Bible Institute,St. Paul, Minnesota. The collection includes numerous books, tracts, periodicals, and audio and video recordings.
The collection is significant because it provides a rare glimpse into Oneness Pentecostalism, a growing and poorly understood segment of the Pentecostal movement. Of particular import are materials relating to Apostolic Bible Church and its pastor, Robert A. Sabin. Apostolic Bible Church sponsored Apostolic Bible Institute, for many years the largest ministerial training school in the United Pentecostal Church. Disagreement concerning some changes within the UPC caused Bro. Sabin and the Apostolic Bible Church to leave the United Pentecostal Church in the 1990s. The collection contains valuable audio and video recordings containing Sabin’s teachings, as well as two debates between Oneness and Trinitarian theologians
Two Dimensional Anti-de Sitter Space and Discrete Light Cone Quantization
We realize the two dimensional anti-de Sitter () space as a
Kaluza-Klein reduction of the space in the framework of the discrete
light cone quantization (DLCQ). Introducing DLCQ coordinates which interpolate
the original (unboosted) coordinates and the light cone coordinates, we discuss
that correspondence can be deduced from the . In
particular, we elaborate on the deformation of WZW model to obtain the boundary
theory for the black hole. This enables us to derive the entropy of the
black hole from that of the black hole.Comment: RevTeX, 11 pages, shorter version to appear in PL
