Our society is increasingly dependent on digital media. Socio-economic changes in Russia and the information explosion that has affected the whole world require a revision of traditional systems, content, methods and technologies of education in the context of various media usage. The aim of this research is to theoretically substantiate, develop and experimentally prove tools for effective usage of digital media in the educational process of secondary schools in Russia. According to the purpose and hypothesis, the objectives of this research are: to define the essence, functions, didactic and educational possibilities of digital media; to identify pedagogical aspects of their usage in education; to determine structural components of teachers' readiness to using digital media in their work; to develop tools for using digital media in the educational process of secondary schools; to prove experimentally the effectiveness of the developed tools. The research object is the educational process of secondary schools under conditions of digitalization of the Russian education. The subject of this research covers tools of effective usage of digital media in the educational process of secondary schools

Tracking the maturity of industry 4.0: the perspective of a real scenario

    Get PDF
To track industry 4.0 status, readiness models are used to analyze the state of industry 4.0 technologies’ implementation, allowing the quantification and qualification of its readiness level considering different dimensions. Not all companies are adopting these new technologies with the same ease and with the same pace. There are companies unable to blend the industry 4.0 with their business models, leading to a lack of a correct self-assessment on understanding the reached readiness level. Into this purpose, it is important to understand how companies are facing the digital transformation challenges, what is their perception about the enabling technologies towards the industry 4.0, assess the industry 4.0’ readiness so far, and what are their perception of the barriers to the adoption of these technologies. This paper aims to assess the industry 4.0’ readiness level of companies and discuss the perception of companies about the barriers on the adoption of industry 4.0 with the reached readiness level of companies. New barriers are also brought for discussion on academic community. To this end, empirical data was collected on a sample of 15 companies belonging to an important industrial cluster located in Portugal.publishersversionpublishe

The paper summarizes the experience of using information systems in transport and logistics companies in Russia, their typologization and functionality. The definition of "smart logistics" is formulated; it contains a description of the essence of the term characterizing its specific features and effects that are achieved as a result of processes of the same name. Based on the study of the trans-logistics platforms functional structure and the “single window” evolutionary development levels, the industry and departmental participants of the logistics market, which information systems can potentially be integrated into a single information space, are identified. The relevance of the information systems integration for providing synchromodal transportation is underlined. Expert opinions on practices in the digitalization of transport and logistics processes in Russia are highlighted and summarized. Opinions on the uneven development of digitalization in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and also on the conditions and trends in digital logistics development are highlighted.

    The next generation internet initiative

Digital transformation is pushing all market sectors to level up their digital capabilities to better serve customers and improve the user experience. The European Commission launched in 2016 the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative as part of the DSM strategy. NGI includes a number of different – but always interrelated – emerging technologies in the following focus areas: artificial intelligence and autonomous machines, blockchains and distributed ledgers, big data, Internet of Things, 5G, cybersecurity and privacy technologies, cloud and edge computing, and open data. As for cooperation in the field of Information and Communications Technology, Europe and the United States should seek a joint framework to expand efforts in new emerging technologies, while preserving common principles around a comprehensive EU–US digital economy dialogue. The NGI Initiative is an important opportunity to radically rethink the way the Internet works today, and more human-focused narratives are needed more than ever

Master's thesis in Information systems (IS501)Research within data management is often based on the elements of the data lifecycle. Organizations and businesses are also becoming more interested in data lifecycle management to leverage their data streams, compounded by an interest in geographical attributes within the data –referred to as geodata. Geodata provides a richer basis for analysis and is increasingly important within urban planning. Furthermore, the pressure to achieve sustainability goals calls for improving the data lifecycle. The challenge remainsas to what can be improvedwithin the data lifecycle –with geodata as an important input –to achieve sustainability dimensions. Our main contribution through this study is shedding light on challenges withgeodata from an Information Systems (IS) and sustainability perspective. Additionally, the identified challenges are also feedback to data management research and the data lifecycle

Impacts of the implementation of Industry´s 4.0 technologies in the portuguese footwear industry

The first three industrial revolutions came about as a result of mechanization, electricity and IT. It is safe to state that a fourth revolution is currently taking place in manufacturing, with it being generally branded as Industry 4.0. These Cyber-Physical Systems comprise smart machines, storage systems and production facilities capable of autonomously exchanging information, triggering actions and controlling each other independently. The present investigation takes this premise into account and focuses in pursuing what are the main implications of the implementation of Industry´s 4.0 technologies in the Portuguese Footwear Industry. In order to lay the foundations for the study, an extensive literature review was executed. This was followed by a qualitative and exploratory investigation, based on twelve interviews with various relevant actors of the Portuguese footwear scene. The interviews resulted in insightful conclusions. Firstly, it is possible to notice that the Portuguese Footwear industry is generally well equipped and informed. Generally, the manufacturers are aware of the new technologies that are made available, being that there are already successful examples of companies using them. The study has highlighted the importance for companies to develop an extensive evaluation regarding their specific needs in order to better decide in which technologies to invest. The path is being designed in order to continuously simplify technologies, so that they are easier to work with. The main constraint, to the present day, is linked with finding skilled workforce to perform tasks at the shop floor level and also with the generation of enough value that allows the manufacturers to invest in more advanced technology
