Formation Of Socio-economic Development Strategy Of Construction Enterprises

The improvement of economic and social results of the current activity of a construction enterprise and future development of the socio-economic system is possible by forming and accepting complex arrangements within the mechanism of rationalization of cooperation between elements of the system of construction activity management, directed on establishing the organizational structure, providing balance between existent resources and establishing future aims for achieving economic and social results, observing the functional destination and objective orientation of technological and resource elements of the management system of the socio-economic development. The conducted studies established that the strategy must provide arrangements as to improvement of the economic mechanism, system of management and planning, economic stimulation, creation of conditions for the effective use of the production potential of an economic enterprise. It was proved, that they are in: realization of profound marketing studies for determining a consumption demand for final construction products in whole and by their most important groups and usage directions; formation of alternative variants of creating final products, taking into account the structure of needs in them and within resources, allotted for the development of a construction enterprise; choice of a variant that mostly satisfies needs for a new strategy, solving socio-economic tasks at least costs, getting the proper quality of products and raising a competitiveness level of the production potential of a construction enterprise. It allows to state that the development project of a construction enterprise must be based on multi-criteria optimization, oriented on getting the maximal profit and maximal satisfaction of the consumption demand of products, presented on internal and external markets at raising their competitiveness

A field study was conducted on the socio-economic condition of the fishermen community, occupation migration and fish biodiversity in the Jamuna River at Belkuchi char areas under Shirajgonj district, Bangladesh. The study was conducted from November 2012 to August 2013. Data were collected from randomly selected 100 respondents of fishermen community using semi-structured questionnaire interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Fish biodiversity data were also collected from four major markets. The result was calculated by collecting present data and 15 years ago data from the interviewers. The study indicated that most of the fishermen had improved their average annual income, housing condition, drinking water facility, sanitation facility, health facility etc. The fishermen are adapting to different occupations beside fishing such as fish culture, fish selling, agriculture, boat making, labor, looming, business, CNG driving and migration to town for seeking seasonal jobs. A significant amount of fishermen (30%) are adapting to these different livelihood options. Only 8% fishermen got subsidy in the study area. The main problems are extortion by the local extortionists, inadequate credit, lack of appropriate gear etc. A total of 57 species of fishes under 20 families and 9 orders were found in the Jamuna River. The study recommends that governmental and nongovernmental organizations should help the fishermen in adapting their livelihood in different sector during banning season. Government should also monitor the subsidy facility carefully till reaching the true fishermen. Besides, these organizations should also help in conserving the fish diversity of the Jamuna River to reduce the vulnerability of fishermen

    Designing new socio-economic imaginaries

This short paper recovers the term ‘imaginaries’ which is often used in the social sciences to describe a meaning system that frames individuals lived experience of an inordinately complex world. The paper goes on to reflect on the extent to which design has the capability to disrupt imaginaries through the development of products in order for people to construct new ones, or whether the discipline is perpetuating old models of the world. The paper uses a workshop method to explore socioeconomic models in order to better balance the multiple imaginaries that participants hold with the opportunity to design disruptive and critical propositions. Reflections upon the workshop and the concept of imaginaries allows the authors to identify a challenge for design in which it must accept its role as mediator and exacerbator. <br/

Socio-economic impacts of GMOs on European Agriculture

    Get PDF
Genetically modified (GM) crops (e.g. maize, soybean, oilseed rape and cotton) have been produced commercially since 1996. In 2016, 185 million hectares of GM crops were grown globally corresponding to 3.4% of the worldwide utilised agricultural area (UAA). Compared to Canada or the US, cultivation of GM crops in the EU agriculture is limited and decreased by 4.2% from136,338 ha UAA in 2016 to 130,571 ha UAA in 2017. Indeed, GM crops, are mainly grown in Spain and Portugal. The EU coexistence strategy seeks to ensure the choice of consumers and farmers between conventional, organic and GM crop production. As adventitious presence of GM crops in non-GM crops cannot be excluded, suitable measures are needed during cultivation, harvest, transport, storage and processing to ensure coexistence. So far, most coexistence studies focus on costs for GM producers even though coexistence involves cost for both the GM and the non-GM producer. Furthermore, there is a lack of studies from cases where coexistence is a real issue such as in Spain. Therefore, there is the need to analyse the socio-economic impacts of GM production on the actors of organic or non-GM supply chains
