Intersection local times of fractional Brownian motions with as generalized white noise functionals
In , for any dimension , expansions of self-intersection local
times of fractional Brownian motions with arbitrary Hurst coefficients in
are presented. The expansions are in terms of Wick powers of white
noises (corresponding to multiple Wiener integrals), being well-defined in the
sense of generalized white noise functionals.Comment: 17 page
η-conversions of IPC implemented in atomic F
It is known that the β-conversions of the full intuitionistic propositional calculus (IPC) translate into βη-conversions of the atomic polymorphic calculus Fat. Since Fat enjoys the property of strong normalization for βη-conversions, an alternative proof of strong normalization for IPC considering β-conversions can be derived. In the present article, we improve the previous result by analysing the translation of the η-conversions of the latter calculus into a technical variant of the former system (the atomic polymorphic calculus Fat^∧_at). In fact, from the strong normalization of Fat^∧_at we can derive the strong normalization of the full intuitionistic propositional calculus considering all the standard (β and η) conversions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
iLRN 2018 Main Conference Preface
iLRN 2018. Conferência realizada em Missoula, MT, USA, de 24-29 de junho de 2018.ILRN 2018 was the fourth annual international conference of the Immersive Learning Network. It followed on from the inaugural conference held in Prague in July 2015, the second conference held in Santa Barbara in June 2016, and the third conference held in Coimbra, Portugal, in 2017. In response to the increasingly accessible and powerful range of VR and AR technology, the vision of the iLRN is to develop a comprehensive research and outreach agenda that encompasses the breadth and scope of learning potentialities, affordances, and challenges of immersive learning environments. To achieve this, the
iLRN invites and hosts scientists, practitioners, organizations, and innovators across many disciplines to explore, describe, and apply the optimal use of immersive worlds and environments for educational purposes. The annual conference aims to explain and demonstrate how these immersive learning environments best work. In 2018, 21 formal papers were received for the main conference and after a rigorous reviewing process six were selected for this Springer publication (28% acceptance rate). The authors of these
papers come from institutions located in Brazil, Germany, the UK, and the USA (Florida, Texas, California).
The main conference papers cover a range of interesting topics in some depth, providing useful information for other educators and researchers. Alvarez-Molina et al. report on how video games can help players develop their musical skills and illustrate this by creating and evaluating a music-video game that aims to improve the key skill of pitch recognition. Bakri et al. investigate the subjective perception of the fidelity of
3D cultural heritage artifacts on the Web and how this affects the user experience. De León reports on the promising results of utilizing problem-based learning for bridging theory and practice in teacher preparation programs through the use of immersive, ill-structured problems in a multi-user virtual environment that simulates a real school. Feenan draws upon 10 years of studies into the use of digital game-based learning as the basis of an analysis that recommends a five-pronged approach to the successful use of games to support social resiliency skills for students in a fast-changing world. Johnson and Sullivan describe a pilot study that identifies three key strategies for making students feel more comfortable and productive in an experimental game design class. Queiroz et al. present a literature review of learning outcomes from using fully HMD-based IVE in primary/K-12 education, highlighting relevant studies, identifying gaps, and providing insights for use in further research. This informative and fascinating collection of papers reflects the emerging and valuable possibilities of immersive learning research. We know you will find many points of interest and use in the well-presented reports in this collection. Finally, we strongly encourage you to join ILRN and contribute your own insights and research to the community.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Open teaching practice: reflections on the use of OER educational activities
This article presents results from a study carried out with Brazilian and Portuguese professors whose objective was to understand the dynamic of using and sharing online resources in their pedagogical practices. With a qualitative foundation, the instruments for data collection were online surveys and interviews recorded with professors. After reflecting on the main challenges faced, the presentation of recommendations could collaborate towards encouraging producing and sharing Open Educational Resources (OER) and, consequently, broadening the democratization of knowledge.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Bounds and extremal domains for Robin eigenvalues with negative boundary parameter
We present some new bounds for the first Robin eigenvalue with a negative
boundary parameter. These include the constant volume problem, where the bounds
are based on the shrinking coordinate method, and a proof that in the fixed
perimeter case the disk maximises the first eigenvalue for all values of the
parameter. This is in contrast with what happens in the constant area problem,
where the disk is the maximiser only for small values of the boundary
parameter. We also present sharp upper and lower bounds for the first
eigenvalue of the ball and spherical shells.
These results are complemented by the numerical optimisation of the first
four and two eigenvalues in 2 and 3 dimensions, respectively, and an evaluation
of the quality of the upper bounds obtained. We also study the bifurcations
from the ball as the boundary parameter becomes large (negative).Comment: 26 pages, 20 figure
On idempotent generated semigroups
We provide short and direct proofs for some classical theorems proved by
Howie, Levi and McFadden concerning idempotent generated semigroups of
transformations on a finite set.Comment: three page
Managing sustainability: the role of multinational corporations in the global south
Multinational corporations and international business practices as well as international investment are
considered important elements for the diffusion of new modes of production, namely through a flow of
cleaner production and new management practices such as corporate social responsibility (CSR). This
view is lacking consistency and is not buttressed on strong empirical evidence. The positive driver of
environmental sustainability is probably not international business and trade but strong and good institutions.
The focus here is on four limitations: the context of the private firms and corporations, the workings
of complex organizations, the technology and the right institutions that buttress the global, national and
local contexts, taking as concrete examples some specific cases from the Global South, as Mozambique.
The article concludes that these aspects have to be considered and contrasted to the technological and
management solutions for sustainability.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
MOOC and OER: identity management
Open educational resources (OER) and massive open online courses (MOOC) are new and emerging issues in the international higher education context. Under the exponential growth of the supply of courses and related publications, the purpose of this chapter is to foster scientific discussion on the socio-cultural and economic impacts, as well as its technological and pedagogical implications. Supported by the methodological typology of bibliographical studies, systematized interpretative-critical analysis based on review of the concepts, and principles guiding OER and MOOC, the authors' reflections show that the enlargement terminologies without epistemological delimitation have provoked theoretical and practical mistakes. In the final considerations, the authors systematize broader problematizations around the open educational practices in universities aimed to five dimensions: spatio-time-content, theoretical models, principles of pedagogical innovation, economic aspects, and fundamentals of collaborative culture.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Which table salt to chose?
The link between salt consumption and hypertension has been the focus of many studies and clinical trials in the past few years. It is recommended that table salt intake does not exceed the maximum of 5g per day and yet most people find almost impossible to comply with this recommendation. New types of salt have recently appeared in the market and they claim to be less harmful to health than current commercial salt. Besides being less salty to the taste these new types of salt contain less sodium and more trace minerals than commercial salt but there is a need of experiments and studies in order to establish their benefit to health.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
