    Narrative Analysis of Marketing Communication Y2K Music School and Studio on Social Media

    This research was conducted to find out how the branding activity done by Y2K Music School and Studio through social media account Instagram @ y2kstudio. This research would like to examine more deeply related to marketing activity such as what applied Y2K Music School and Studio in building brand Y2K Music School and Studio as a music school through its official Instagram. There is also a method used in this research is a method of narrative analysis which is a method in the field of qualitative research. The data were collected using literature study on textbooks, online data tracking, and in-depth interviews on key informants related to the study. The results of this study states that the form of branding activities conducted by Y2K Music School and Studio through social media accounts Instagram @ y2kstudio is a marketing communication in the form of delivering information with positive ambiance related Y2K Music School and Studio and also in the form of information delivery activities related promotions which is currently running at Y2K Music School and Studio

    Narrative Analysis of Sexual Etiquette in Teenage Magazines

    Expanding on existing research on women\u27s magazines, this essay examines the sexual etiquette developed in advice columns in magazines popular among teenage women. Over a span of 20 years, the advice has changed very little. Serving the rhetorical function of field guides and training manuals, teen magazines limit women\u27s sociality and sexuality within narrowly defined heterosexual norms and practices. The rhetoric of sexual etiquette encourages young women to be sex objects and teachers of interpersonal communication rather than lovers, friends, and partners.     Combining quantitative narrative analysis and predictive modeling - an eye tracking study

    As a part of a larger interdisciplinary project on Shakespeare sonnets’ reception (Jacobs et al., 2017; Xue et al., 2017), the present study analyzed the eye movement behavior of participants reading three of the 154 sonnets as a function of seven lexical features extracted via Quantitative Narrative Analysis (QNA). Using a machine learning- based predictive modeling approach five ‘surface’ features (word length, orthographic neighborhood density, word frequency, orthographic dissimilarity and sonority score) were detected as important predictors of total reading time and fixation probability in poetry reading. The fact that one phonological feature, i.e., sonority score, also played a role is in line with current theorizing on poetry reading. Our approach opens new ways for future eye movement research on reading poetic texts and other complex literary materials (cf. Jacobs, 2015c)

    We acknowledge and concur with Catherine Kohler Riessman's insistence on the necessity of sustained and formal analysis of narratives. We thus distance ourselves from qualitative researchers who aim to celebrate personal narratives rather than undertaking that analytic work. In doing so, we also draw on the work of Dell Hymes, whose approach to ethnopoetics informs our own. The discussion is developed and illustrated with materials from Natasha Carver's research with informants of Somali heritage that display the relevance of ethnopoetic transcription and analysis
