Investigation of diesel generator shaft and bearing failures

    Get PDF
A shaft failure in a 634 kW diesel generator after 4000 hours of operation required investigation, especially when similar sets began to show signs of excessive bearing housing wear. The failure was found to be due to torsional fatigue caused by operation at an unforeseen resonant condition. The damage to the bearing housing of this type of set was also attributed to this behaviour. Replacement of the bearings and housings and redesign of the flexible coupling has been undertaken to prevent further failures. Modifications to design procedures are now being adopted to ensure similar problems do not occur in other existing or new machines

Concentrations of Ni, Cu, Zn, Fe, Cd, and Pb were determined in six different creeks within a city in Tennessee using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Mean concentrations of Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, and Fe in the sites examined reveal that they exceed the USEPA recommended limits. High concentrations of Cu (0.130 mg/L), Zn (13.7 mg/L), Ni (0.267 mg/L), and Cd (0.010 mg/L) were observed in site B and Fe (3.01 mg/L) in site E relative to other sites. The concentration of Pb (0.795 mg/l) was higher in site A. Higher concentrations of Cu, Zn, and Fe were detected in samples collected in the month of January and Cd in samples collected in the month of June. Pb and Ni concentrations did not show any significant difference with respect to dates of sample collection. Their presence in the environment on a particular day depends on the type and volume of human activities

Discharge to the Pacific Ocean through an 8,720-foot outfall/diffuser system. Up to 1.6 MGD reclaimed for landscape irrigation. SUMMARY The City of Santa Barbara (Discharger) discharges treated municipal wastewater through an 8,720foot outfall/diffuser system to the Pacific Ocean. To determine the optimum level of effluent disinfection, the Discharger has studied the effects of a range of effluent coliform concentrations on shellfish stationed near the point of discharge. The proposed Order specifies new coliform effluent limitations in accordance with the study’s findings. When operating, a seawater desalination plant (currently mothballed) would also discharge waste brine into the municipal outfall. Proposed Order No. 99-40 governs both the municipal discharge and the combined flows. The proposed Order specifies appropriate discharge limits and specifications from the 1997 Water Quality Control Plan- Ocean Waters ofCaflfornia (Ocean Plan), and requires the Discharger to monitor for potential adverse effect on aquatic life

A fairly rapid growth in Indonesian telecommunications industry has encourages the competition among existing providers. The need to increase customer satisfaction through CRM for every company is now considered to be more important. Nowadays, call centre not only limited to provide convenience feeling to the customers in keep in touch with the company. The extended function of this service can be use to build loyalty to a brand. Telkomsel as one of the famous provider also provide call centre in order to reach their customer all over Indonesia area and create the brand loyalty of the customer. This research is to analyze the experience of the customer when dealing with call centre in creating brand loyalty at PT Telkomsel. This research is conducted by using qualitative research and case study method with 9 respondents who are the customer of Telkomsel in Manado area as sample of respondents. The result shows that staff attitude has no direct influence on brand loyalty. On the other hand, the empathy and perception of commitment to service quality and customer satisfaction have direct influence on brand loyalty

Wing-section optimization for supersonic viscous flows

    Get PDF
The recent interest in High Speed Civil Transport (HSCT) has resulted in renewed research studies of optimized supersonic cruise transport configurations. Incorporation of flow viscosity effects in the design process of such a supersonic wing is currently under investigation. This may lead to more accurate problem formulations and, in turn, greater aerodynamic efficiency than can be obtained by the traditional, inviscid, linear theories. In this context, for a design code to be a candidate for a complex optimization problem, such as three-dimensional viscous supersonic wing design, it should be validated using simpler building-block shapes. To optimize the shape of a supersonic wing, an automated method that also includes higher fidelity to the flow physics is desirable. With this impetus, an aerodynamic optimization methodology incorporating Navier-Stokes equations and sensitivity analysis had been previously developed. Prior to embarking upon the wing design task, the present investigation concentrated on testing the flexibility of the methodology, and the identification of adequate problem formulations, by defining two-dimensional, cost-effective test cases. Starting with two distinctly different initial airfoils, two independent shape optimizations resulted in shapes with very similar features. Secondly, the normal section to the subsonic portion of the leading edge, which had a high normal angle-of-attack, was considered. The optimization resulted in a shape with twist and camber, which eliminated the adverse pressure gradient, hence, exploiting the leading-edge thrust. The wing section shapes obtained in all the test cases had the features predicted by previous studies. Therefore, it was concluded that the flowfield analyses and the sensitivity coefficients were computed and fed to the present gradient-based optimizer correctly. Also, as a result of the present two-dimensional study, suggestions were made for problem formulations which should contribute to an effective wing shape optimization

PERLINDUNGAN HUKUM TERHADAP TENAGA KERJA OUTSOURCING MENURUT UNDANG-UNDANG NO. 13 TAHUN 2003

    Item-by-item sampling for promotional purposes

This is an accepted manuscript of an article accepted for publication by Taylor & Francis in Quality Technology & Quantitative Management on 7 June 2017, available online at doi: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/16843703.2017.1335494In this paper we present a method for sampling items that are checked on a pass/fail basis, with a view to a statement being made about the success/failure rate for the purposes of promoting an organisation’s product/service to potential clients/customers. Attention is paid to the appropriate use of statistical phrases for the statements and this leads to the use of Bayesian credible intervals, thus it exceeds what can achieved with standard acceptance sampling techniques. The hypergeometric distribution is used to calculate successive stopping rules so that the resources used for sampling can be minimised. Extensions to the sampling procedure are considered to allow the potential for stronger and weaker statements to be made as sampling progresses. The relationship between the true error rate and the probabilities of making correct statements is discussed.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
