Elderly population especially in Palembang increase every year. The pattern of urban people's life that individualist make a lot of elderly lack of attention. Many places can receive elderly, such as old people’s home, however it still has a limits in supporting facilities of elderly’s life. The Elderly Care Centre in Palembang is a region that can receive and meet a variety of elderly needs. The Elderly Care Centre has a lot of facilities like, housing, building of hobby, canteen, equipments shop, apartment, clinic, and ballroom. With good planning and good design of The Elderly Care Centre in Palembang, hope it will able to give a pleasant and secure place for the elderly who live in it. Other that, The Elderly Care Centre can be a tourist destination for elderly and unite all of elderly people in Palembang. The theme that applied at The Elderly Care Centre this is “Forest”. This theme will be manifested in the form of housing region and eight mass of the main building with tropical architecture style

Daily life assistance for elderly is one of the most promising and interesting scenarios for advanced technologies in the present and near future. Improving the quality of life of elderly is also some of the first priorities in modern countries and societies where the percentage of elder people is rapidly increasing due mainly to great improvements in medicine during the last decades. In this paper, we present an overview of our informationally structured room that supports daily life activities of elderly. Our environment contains different distributed sensors including a floor sensing system and several intelligent cabinets. Sensor information is sent to a centralized management system which processes the data and makes it available to a service robot which assists the people in the room. One important restriction in our intelligent environment is to maintain a small number of sensors to avoid interfering with the daily activities of people and to reduce as much as possible the invasion of their privacy. In addition we discuss some experiments using our real environment and robot

Falls among elderly can pose serious consequences such as injury or even fatal ones. Therefore, it is essential that fall are detected early and away to that is by using IoT platform. The authors have been developing a wearable device for elderly monitoring system utilizing accelerometer. The data from accelerometer is connected to an Internet-of-Things (IoT) platform called ThingSpeakTM. Based on IoT platform, elderly patients can be remotely monitored as long as the care providers have good internet access. The paper presents the experimental results of determining the sensitivity and specificity of the accelerometer used in the proposed system. This is the first step for developing an accurate data acquisition for monitoring purposes. Based on the experimental results, the average percentage for sensitivity obtained for this device is 73.3%, while the average for specificity obtained is 89.3%. Both sensitivity and specificity tests shows promising results which indicates that the device only has a fail rate of 26.7% and error rate of 10.7%

Starting in 2012, thousands of the baby boom generation will begin to turn 65 every day. Yet, little has been done to prepare for this increased need and demand for elderly care. This thesis traces the history of elderly care and progresses through time to show the evolution of change in the elderly care industry. I begin with a discussion of the provision of elderly care at home by family members and progress to the institutional of elderly care by the public sector for those who were too destitute to pay for their own care at home. Additionally, the commercialization of elderly care and the federal government's subsidy of such care through medicare is discussed. I examine the rationale for changes in elderly care through the ages and the advantages and limitations of each form of care. From there I look to the future of elderly care and discuss the housing and institutional facilities that will be needed to take care of the growing elderly population. My findings from the examination of the history and contemporary practices in elderly care lead me to make a number of suggestions for improving the care of this population. These suggestions relate to changing planning regulations to allow for the use of ancillary dwelling units (ADUs) in existing residential neighborhoods, the incorporation of universal design principles in housing design for the elderly, and changing the design and operation of nursing care facilities by using the Eden Alternative as a model. The adoption of these proposals by both the public and private sectors will hopefully help move us towards more compassion in elderly care and enable us to meet the growing demand for appropriate elderly housing and institutional facilities.Department of Urban PlanningGrowth of the elderly population and their needs -- History of elderly care facilities -- Planning regulations and housing for the elderly -- Universal design and the Eden alternative.Thesis (M.U.R.P.

Nonprofit contracting and partnership in elderly care : a comparison between China and the Netherlands

This paper offers an empirical account of the engagement and success of nonprofits in contracting for elderly care in China and the Netherlands as two contrasting contexts. While contracting as an innovation demonstrates a state-centered approach in China, its Dutch counterpart has sought a balance between state and professional influences. The paper argues that public sector reforms, civil society development and social regulation support schemes contextualize the engagement and success of nonprofits in contracting for elderly care. Surveys among the managers of 176 elderly care organizations in Shanghai and 70 elderly care organizations in the Netherlands shows that the fundamental elements of nonprofit contracting in elderly care are strikingly similar between both contexts, although their manifestation is shaped by each specific institutional context.Peer reviewe

Research on the influencing factors of demand for elderly care services based on data of elderly care service information system

Elderly care has emerged as a pressing concern for society as a whole in the setting of global aging. The elderly care service information system can play an important role in the study of elderly care issues. This study uses Anderson\u27s Behavioral Model and Maslow\u27s Hierarchy of Needs Theory as the analytical framework and guide, applies multiple logistic regression analysis, and is bases on the data from the elderly care service information system to study the factors influencing the demand for elderly care services and the interaction between the influencing factors in terms of predisposing factors, enabling factors and need factors. Compared with physiological demand, age, living status and self-care ability have a significant impact on physiological demand. Environmental demands are significantly influenced by age, educational level, living status, child support situation and self-care ability, while gender does not have a significant effect on either type of demand. The main effects model fits better with the addition of the interaction term. There is a significant interaction effect between the three types of factors. Finally, this study proposes suggestions from two perspectives: the supply of elderly care services and the construction of the elderly care service information system

Research on Age-Friendly Design of Living Spaces in Institutional Elderly Care Models

With the increasing trend of population aging, elderly care institutions have become important places for the daily lives of older adults. However, there are still many issues in the current design of living spaces in institutional elderly care models, such as unreasonable spatial layout, inadequate functionality, and inconvenient facilities. To address these issues, this paper conducts a comprehensive analysis through literature review and field research, integrating the physiological and psychological characteristics of older adults and the advantages and disadvantages of living spaces in actual elderly care institutions. Based on spatial design principles and technical approaches, this paper summarizes the key points and strategies for designing age-friendly living environments for older adults in institutional elderly care models. This provides a reference basis for the design of living spaces for older adults in elderly care institutions in China, promoting the improvement of quality of life for older adults and the development of healthy aging care
