The adjacency matrix of one type of graph and the Fibonacci numbers
Recently there is huge interest in graph theory and intensive study on
computing integer powers of matrices. In this paper, we investigate
relationships between one type of graph and well-known Fibonacci sequence. In
this content, we consider the adjacency matrix of one type of graph with 2k
(k=1,2,...) vertices. It is also known that for any positive integer r, the
(i,j)th entry of A^{r} (A is the adjacency matrix of the graph) is just the
number of walks from vertex i to vertex j, that use exactly k edges
A Density Functional Theory Investigation of Carboranethiol Self-Assembled Monolayer on Au(111)
Isolated and full monolayer adsorption of various carboranethiol
(CBHS) isomers on gold (111) surface have been investigated
using both the standard and van der Waals density functional theoretical
calculations. The effect of differing molecular dipole moment orientations on
the low energy adlayer geometries, the binding characteristics and the
electronic properties of the self-assembled monolayers of these isomers have
been studied. Specifically, the binding energy and work function changes
associated with different molecules show a correlation with their dipole
moments. The adsorption is favored for the isomers with dipole moments parallel
to the surface. Of the two possible unit cell structures, the (55) was
found to be more stable than the ()R23.4 one.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures and 3 table
A modeling study with 4th graders
People need effective writing skills to successfully maintain their personal development and academic life. This research studies, the correlations among primary school 4th graders’ writing anxiety, writing attitude, and writing self-efficacy. The research has been designed in the correlational survey model; and a total of 255 primary school 4th-grade students, 95 male and 160 female, participated voluntarily in the research. Three psychometric tools have been used for data collection. Due to small number of participants, the data have been analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling. According to the results, primary school 4th-grade students’ writing attitude does not significantly affect writing anxiety (H1). Moreover, writing self-efficacy does not have a significant effect on writing anxiety (H2) as well. However, writing self-efficacy significantly affects writing attitude (H3). The success of writing depends on the students’ writing self-efficacy, attitude towards writing, and writing anxiety. In order for successful writing, the level of self-efficacy should be high, the attitude towards writing should be positive and there should be no anxiety about writing
How Do the Exchange Rates Affect the Sector Indices? A Dynamic Panel Data Analysis for Borsa Istanbul
This paper aims to investigate the impact of the exchange rate on stock market indices of four main sectors in Turkey. For this purpose, the paper uses monthly data spanning the period between 06/2008-11/2020 and employs the panel GMM estimation method. This method instrumentalizes the past observation values of the dependent variable to control the endogeneity and provides efficient results. Considering that firms operating in many sectors in Turkey are affected by the volatility of the exchange rate, the paper takes initiative in understanding how stock market indices of four sectors react to the fluctuation in USD and Euro prices. This study contributes to the current literature, performing the panel GMM estimation method, unlike studies that only examine the causality relationship on the link between exchange rate and the stock market. The results show that there is unidirectional causality from the exchange rate to stock market indices. According to our findings, the USD/TRY exchange rate negatively affects stock market indices, and the Euro/TRY exchange rate positively affects stock market indices. The findings obtained from the analysis results confirm prior knowledge acquired from Turkey's foreign trade structure
Factorization of Joint Probability Mass Functions into Parity Check Interactions
We show that any joint probability mass function (PMF) can be expressed as a product of parity check factors an d factors of degree one with the help of some auxiliary variables, if the alphabet size is appropriate for defining a parity chec k equation. In other words, marginalization of a joint PMF is equivalent to a soft decoding task as long as a finite field can be constructed over the alphabet of the PMF. In factor graph terminology this claim means that a factor graph representing such a joint PMF always has an equivalent Tanner graph. We provide a systematic method based on the Hilbert space of PMF s and orthogonal projections for obtaining this factorization
An English language needs analysis of preparatory class students at Gaziosmanpaşa University
Cataloged from PDF version of article. This study investigated the English language needs of the students in the
voluntary preparatory classes of Gaziosmanpasa University from the perspectives of
the current students, former students, EFL teachers, and the director of the program,
in the hopes of being able to make needs-based curricular recommendations for
preparatory program.
Data were collected through three different questionnaires from 40 current
students, 81 former students, and seven EFL teachers and through a structured
interview with the director of the program.
The questionnaires were initially analyzed using frequencies and percentages.
Chi-square tests were conducted on one key question. t-tests were also conducted on
the common questions for students ‘questionnaires. The interview with the director
of the program was transcribed and analyzed as well, and the data used to answer the
research questions.
The study found that while students are generally satisfied with the program
and felt it meets their needs, there are specific areas that need to be improved. The results suggest the program goals and objectives need to be clearly identified and
communicated to students and faculty. Further, program curriculum and courses need
to be aligned with these goals. Students desire the broader use of additional materials
and methods in classroom instruction. Although students accept the importance of all
language skills, special attention should be paid to the listening and speaking aspects
of the program that were identified as being especially weak. Additional English
language courses may be given to the students in their own departments after they
have completed the programYılmaz, FatihM.S
Some heuristics as preprocessing for 0-1 integer programming
Ankara : The Department of Industrial Engineering and the Institute of Engineering and Sciences of Bilkent Univ., 1991.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 1991.Includes bibliographical references. It is well-known that 0-1 integer programming is one of the hard problems to solve other than special
cases of constraint set in mathematical programming. In this thesis, some preprocessing will be done
to get useful informations, such as feasible solutions, bounds for the number of Ts in feasible solutions,
about the problem. A new algorithm to solve general (nonlinear) 0-1 programming with linear objective
function will be devoloped. Preprocessing informations, then, are appended to original problem to show
improvements in enumerative algorithms, e.g. in Branch and Bound procedures.Yılmaz, FatihM.S
Küreselleşme sürecinde gelişmekte olan ülkelerde ve Türkiye’de iş sağlığı ve güvenliği
Starting from the 1980s, globalization process has become increasingly visible worldwide. Globalization has mostly taken place in economical arena and manifested itself as the shifting of production in labor-intensive sectors towards developing countries. Globalization of the production canalized by multi-national companies causes an increase in occupational accidents and diseases as an outcome of low level of social protection in these developing countries. Primary reasons lying behind the reason of the increase in occupational accidents and diseases in developing countries are such as insufficient business law and social security, low level of unionization, use of old technologies, unqualified personnel and long working hours. In terms of occupational health and safety (OHS) small and medium sized enterprises (SME) are affected most from this process. In our country industrialization gained speed after the 1980s and as a consequence of the increase in the number of personnel in industry and service sectors, occupational accidents have also risen. In order to diminish the negative effects of globalization in Turkey, primarily the current legislation which has a narrow scope should be widened, a participative OHS management model should be adopted, special measurements should be taken for SMEs, OHS institute should be established and OHS training should be emphasized particularly in school level.Küreselleşme süreci 1980’li yıllardan itibaren tüm dünyada ağırlığını hissettirmiştir.
The Occupational Health and Safety Committees are modernized in order to improve the democracy and cooperation in the enterprises by incorporating the employees into the management of occupational health and safety, strengthening occupational health and safety supervision and reducing the number of work-related accidents. Most studies state that the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety committees must be best shown by the reduction in work-related accidents. But at the same time, they emphasize the importance of the support of top management, regular meetings, the participation levels of participants as well as member training as being important with regard to the effectiveness. A field study was carried out with 367 Occupational Health and Safety Specialists as part of this paper. In the study, the effectiveness of the Occupational Health and Safety Committees in Turkey was analyzed to see whether the obligations in the Labour Act and Occupational Health and Safety Committees Regulations are being realised; what’s more, the personal observations of the occupational health and safety specialists working in the organisations were considered. Nearly all occupational health and safety specialists stated that the Occupational Health and Safety Committees, in conjunction with other precautions, has had a positive effect in decreasing the number of occupational accidents. As a result it has been determined that the interlocution and cooperation function of the committees is as crucialİş Sağlığı ve Güvenliği Kurulları, iş sağlığı ve güvenliği yönetimine işçileri de dahil ederek işyerinde demokrasi ve işbirliğini geliştirmek, iş sağlığı ve güvenliği denetimini desteklemek ve iş kazalarını azaltmak amacıyla geliştirilmiştir.
A NEW DANGER OF BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION: RYPTOCURRENCY WITH MOBILE INVESTING
Introduction: Cryptocurrencies are a popular investment tool today. However, some studies highlight the investing behavior
of cryptocurrencies similar to pathological gambling. Investing behavior becomes risky when it is not based on proper and adequate
analysis and carries the possibility of big losses as well as big gains. For this reason, we aimed to determine the potential risky investor
profile by age, gender, personality traits and impulsivity levels.
Subjects and Methods: Six hundred and fifty-four cryptocurrencies investors (529 was male, 125 was female, their mean age
was 35.6 ± 9.0) participated in this study between June 2022 – August 2022. Participants were administered the Sociodemographic
Data Form, the South OAKS Gambling Screen Test – revised (SOGS-r), the Big Five Inventory (BFI-10), and Barratt Impulsiveness
Scale-11 (BIS-11).
Results: We found higher neuroticism and impulsivity in possible problematic crypto investors. In addition, extraversion, agreeableness
and conscientiousness scores were lower. Additionally, in our regression analyzes we found that younger age and male gender
predicted SOGS-r scores. After controlling for age and gender, extraversion negatively and motor impulsivity positively predicted
SOGS-r scores.
Discussion: Investing in cryptocurrencies can become a behavioral addiction, similar to pathological gambling. It is important
to identify profiles in which investment behavior is risky.
Conclusion: Personality traits and impulsivity may have a significant impact on identifying risky crypto investors and in the
treatment process
