The Foundations of Islamic Finance: Appraising the Approaches and Challenges

The emergence of Islamic finance as a system of thought and practice is timely in the midst of world crisis and the uncertain proposals for solving it. It is hoped that Islamic finance could offer a coherent perspective for understanding real economic problems as well as a genuine alternative to the very foundations of how finance should be managed to actualize human prosperity. It is widely expected that Islamic finance will continuously evolve into a more sophisticated form and structure in the next decade. Some, however, question whether the development is moving on the right track to realize the hopes pinned on it at the time of its initial establishment. This embarks from the differences in understanding the raison d?etre of Islamic finance emergence and hence approach taken in developing the industry. In this paper we argue that Islamic finance should be directed to provide for meaningful development in thetwenty-first century, Islamic finance must realize its full potential as a system, not merely a stopgap means of surviving the crisis. It must go beyond that to provide the guidelines for managing a good economy, stimulating growth and development, realizing socio-economic justice and promoting employment and stability. It cannot limit itself to merely offering economic and financial practices that satisfy the minimum standard of legal requirements

Ajaran Moral dalam Lirik Lagu Dolanan Anak

Lagu dolanan anak adalah salah satu bentuk lagu jawa yang digunakan anak-anak dari suku jawa untuk bermain. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan ajaran moral dalam lirik lagu dolanan anak tersebut. Hal yang akan dibahas yaitu mengenai wujud, jenis dan cara menjabarkan ajaran moral dalam lagu dolanan anak. metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Data penelitian ini berwujud kata, frasa, dan perkataan dalam lirik lagu dolanan. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dengan cara membaca berkali-kali lirik lagu dolanan anak dilanjutkan dengan menulis data. Selanjutnya data dengan cara deskrip- tif, untuk menemukan wujud, jenis, dan cara menjabarkan ajaran moralnya

Estimation and measurement of effective line mobility on a non-deterministic thin plate excited by a piezoelectric patch

This paper derived the expression to estimate the effective line moment mobility of a non-deterministic thin plate under moment excitation by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The piezoelectric patch actuator is assumed to generate purely line moments at each of its edges and regarded as a finite number of point moments acting on an infinite plate, which is achieved by integration method. The theoretical model is validated using MATLAB simulation and compared with experimental measurements on a randomized thin plate. The derived effective line moment mobility managed to closely estimate high-frequency response while cutting significant computational time and resource. Results from this study can be used in many applications ranging from vibration isolation where power transmission between the isolator with an area distribution and its host structure can be determined more accurately, and to design the optimal shunt circuit of a piezoelectric shunt damper for maximum power dissipation in order to reduce vibration of a non-deterministic thin plate

Compact wideband broadside-coupled microstrip-slot bandpass filter for communication applications

This paper proposes a compact size design of wideband bandpass filter (BPF). The broad-side coupling microstrip-slot technique is used to accomplish a good passband response with very low insertion loss across a wideband frequency range. The BPF that is designed using Rogers RO4003C substrate shows a good performance with the respective maximum reflection coefficient and insertion loss of -10 dB and 1.2 dB between 0.92 GHz and 5 GHz. This type of BPF filter is useful in any communication applications

Modeling of occupant's head movement behavior in motion sickness study via time delay neural network

Passengers are more susceptible to experiencing motion sickness (MS) than drivers. The difference in the severity of MS is due to their different head movement behavior during curve driving. When negotiating a curve, the passengers tilt their heads towards the lateral acceleration direction while the drivers tilt their heads against it. Thus, to reduce the passengers’ level of MS, they need to reduce their head’s tilting angle towards the lateral acceleration direction. Designing MS minimization strategies is easier if the correlation between the head movement and lateral acceleration is known mathematically. Therefore, this paper proposes the utilization of a time delay neural network (TDNN) to model the correlation of the occupant’s head movement and lateral acceleration. An experiment was conducted to gather real-time data for the modeling process. The results show that TDNN manages to model the correlation by producing a similar output response to the actual response. Thus, it is expected that the correlation model could be used as an occupant’s head movement predictor tool in future studies of MS

Potential field based motion planning with steering control and DYC for ADAS

In this study, the development of motion planning and control for collision avoidance driver assistance systems is presented. A potential field approach has been used in formulating the collision avoidance algorithm based on predicted vehicle motion. Then, to realize the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for collision avoidance, steering control system and direct yaw moment control (DYC) is designed to follow the desired vehicle motion. Performance evaluation is conducted in simulation environment in term of its performance in avoiding the obstacles.
