In this work the WiMax MAC Protocol for Dynamic Service Flow management and their transactions is analyzed by showing this several pitfalls of the specification and how this can affect the implementation of the protocol using Colored Petri Nets (CPNs). A detailed description of the protocol is developed at level of transactions it supports, and at level of service flows. The modeling and analysis of the protocol are important to improve the current specification and to support the reuse of the concepts in emerging networks. We show the potentialities of using a transaction oriented approach in the description of this kind of protocols. The contributions of this paper are focused on providing a clear description of the protocol, presentation of the model, validation and analysis of the model according to the generation of the Dynamic Service Flow management transactions protocol language, as well as the determination of regular expressions Language.Sociedad Argentina de Informática e Investigación Operativa (SADIO

Analysis of the Properties of the Bluetooth Baseband Connection Establishment Using Colored Petri Nets

Abstract: Bluetooth provides communication between devices via radio frequency with a range of around 10 meters. The Bluetooth specification includes a set of adopted and fundamental protocols. Baseband is a fundamental protocol that is responsible for the connection establishment among a master and up to seven slave devices. This paper describes a model of the Baseband connection establishment protocol and presents the analysis approach and results. The protocol is modeled using Colored Petri Nets. The model provides a clear, unambiguous and precise definition of the considered features of the baseband protocol, which is missing in the current protocol specification. The model is analyzed for a set of general properties, such as correct termination, and a set of Baseband protocol’s specific properties defined in this paper. Some of the properties are checked by querying the occurrence graph, and the others are verified using a CTL-like temporal logic. The results show that the Baseband model satisfies the defined properties

Optimal Feedback-Based Adaptive Wimax Mac For Improving Quality Of Video

WiMax based on IEEE 802.16 is an emerging wireless broadband communication technology for metropolitan area networking and is regarded as a strong competitor of cable access technologies. Among other functionalities, WiMax includes a rich set of MAC layer features that allows it to adapt to changing network and channel conditions. A well-known mechanism that has been incorporated in the physical layer of WiMax is the forward error correction (FEC). In this paper, we make use this feature to construct MAC protocol data units (MPDUs) in an adaptive manner based on the feedback about the channel conditions. We consider video as the application and use a well accepted mean opinion score (MOS) model for evaluating the video at the user end. We conduct simulation experiments to verify the performance of our adaptive MAC schemes. Simulation results reveal that the proposed adaptive scheme is able to adapt to the changing channel conditions, so the MOS for the video quality and network efficiency improve when the scheme is implemented no matter what the status of the channel is. ©2010 IEEE

PERFORMANCE COMPARISON OF MESH ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN AN EXPERIMENTAL NETWORK WITH BANDWIDTH RESTRICTIONS IN THE BORDER ROUTER

In recent years, a new technology known as wireless mesh networks (WMNs) has emerged as an adaptable and economicalextension of wired networks, which, in some scenarios and applications, may provide a more affordable and versatilesolution than other wired or wireless technologies. In this paper, we propose to use WMNs to provide Internet access tolow-income people living in Caracas city. Caracas has a geographical distribution such that almost every middle-classand wealthy neighborhood is located next to at least one poor neighborhood, so poor families may access the Internetvia one or more Internet Service Providers contracted by a neighbor living in a surrounding middle-class or wealthyneighborhood. Computers in poor neighborhoods can connect to the mesh networks via wireless adaptors. As a first step,we investigate the performance of the mesh network for Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N., and OLSR routing protocols as a functionof the throughput and packet loss rate for different test scenarios defined according to the number of mesh nodes and thebandwidth constraints applied by the border router. The results show that when the bandwidth is more limited, all therouting protocols provide similar values of throughput; as the bandwidth restrictions are relaxed, Babel and B.A.T.M.A.N.,perform better than OLSR for large number of users.
