Single Spin Asymmetry Scaling in the Forward Rapidity Region at RHIC
We investigate the scaling properties in inclusive hadron production and the
associated single transverse spin asymmetry in the forward rapidity region at
RHIC. We find that the spin-averaged experimental data in both and
collisions demonstrates a transverse-momentum-dependent geometric scaling. We
introduce the transverse momentum dependent Collins fragmentation function to
study the scaling of the single transverse spin asymmetries. The general
feature of the scaling analysis is consistent with the experimental
observations, in particular, for the transverse momentum dependence of the spin
asymmetries at RHIC energy. We further propose to probe the saturation scale of
nucleus by measuring the spin asymmetry normalized by that in scattering
at low transverse momentum.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
Evolution of Baryon-Free Matter Produced in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions
A 3-fluid hydrodynamic model is introduced for simulating heavy-ion
collisions at incident energies between few and about 200 AGeV. In addition to
the two baryon-rich fluids of 2-fluid models, the new model incorporates a
third, baryon-free (i.e. with zero net baryonic charge) fluid which is created
in the mid-rapidity region. Its evolution is delayed due to a formation time
, during which the baryon-free fluid neither thermalizes nor interacts
with the baryon-rich fluids. After formation it thermalizes and starts to
interact with the baryon-rich fluids. It is found that for =0 the
interaction strongly affects the baryon-free fluid. However, at reasonable
finite formation time, =1 fm/c, the effect of this interaction turns out
to be substantially reduced although still noticeable. Baryonic observables are
only slightly affected by the interaction with the baryon-free fluid.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures, submitted to the issue of Phys. of Atomic Nuclei

Long-range pseudorapidity dihadron correlations in +Au collisions at GeV
Dihadron angular correlations in +Au collisions at
GeV are reported as a function of the measured zero-degree calorimeter neutral
energy and the forward charged hadron multiplicity in the Au-beam direction. A
finite correlated yield is observed at large relative pseudorapidity
() on the near side (i.e. relative azimuth ). This
correlated yield as a function of appears to scale with the
dominant, primarily jet-related, away-side () yield. The
Fourier coefficients of the correlation, , have a strong dependence. In addition, it is
found that is approximately inversely proportional to the mid-rapidity
event multiplicity, while is independent of it with similar magnitude
in the forward (-going) and backward (Au-going) directions.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Elliptic flow of electrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays in Au+Au collisions at 200, 62.4, and 39 GeV
We present measurements of elliptic flow () of electrons from the decays
of heavy-flavor hadrons () by the STAR experiment. For Au+Au collisions
at 200 GeV we report , for transverse momentum
() between 0.2 and 7 GeV/c using three methods: the event plane method
({EP}), two-particle correlations ({2}), and four-particle
correlations ({4}). For Au+Au collisions at = 62.4 and
39 GeV we report {2} for GeV/c. {2} and {4} are
non-zero at low and intermediate at 200 GeV, and {2} is consistent
with zero at low at other energies. The {2} at the two lower beam
energies is systematically lower than at 200 GeV for
GeV/c. This difference may suggest that charm quarks interact less
strongly with the surrounding nuclear matter at those two lower energies
compared to GeV.Comment: Version accepted by PR
Studies of di-jet survival and surface emission bias in Au+Au collisions via angular correlations with respect to back-to-back leading hadrons
We report first results from an analysis based on a new multi-hadron
correlation technique, exploring jet-medium interactions and di-jet surface
emission bias at RHIC. Pairs of back-to-back high transverse momentum hadrons
are used for triggers to study associated hadron distributions. In contrast
with two- and three-particle correlations with a single trigger with similar
kinematic selections, the associated hadron distribution of both trigger sides
reveals no modification in either relative pseudo-rapidity or relative
azimuthal angle from d+Au to central Au+Au collisions. We determine associated
hadron yields and spectra as well as production rates for such correlated
back-to-back triggers to gain additional insights on medium properties.Comment: By the STAR Collaboration. 6 pages, 2 figure
Strangeness Enhancement in Cu+Cu and Au+Au Collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV
We report new STAR measurements of mid-rapidity yields for the ,
, , , , ,
particles in Cu+Cu collisions at \sNN{200}, and mid-rapidity
yields for the , , particles in Au+Au at
\sNN{200}. We show that at a given number of participating nucleons, the
production of strange hadrons is higher in Cu+Cu collisions than in Au+Au
collisions at the same center-of-mass energy. We find that aspects of the
enhancement factors for all particles can be described by a parameterization
based on the fraction of participants that undergo multiple collisions
Inclusive charged hadron elliptic flow in Au + Au collisions at = 7.7 - 39 GeV
A systematic study is presented for centrality, transverse momentum ()
and pseudorapidity () dependence of the inclusive charged hadron elliptic
flow () at midrapidity() in Au+Au collisions at
= 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27 and 39 GeV. The results obtained with
different methods, including correlations with the event plane reconstructed in
a region separated by a large pseudorapidity gap and 4-particle cumulants
(), are presented in order to investigate non-flow correlations and
fluctuations. We observe that the difference between and
is smaller at the lower collision energies. Values of , scaled by
the initial coordinate space eccentricity, , as a function
of are larger in more central collisions, suggesting stronger collective
flow develops in more central collisions, similar to the results at higher
collision energies. These results are compared to measurements at higher
energies at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider ( = 62.4 and 200
GeV) and at the Large Hadron Collider (Pb + Pb collisions at =
2.76 TeV). The values for fixed rise with increasing collision
energy within the range studied (). A comparison to
viscous hydrodynamic simulations is made to potentially help understand the
energy dependence of . We also compare the results to UrQMD
and AMPT transport model calculations, and physics implications on the
dominance of partonic versus hadronic phases in the system created at Beam
Energy Scan (BES) energies are discussed.Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures. Version accepted by PR
