Performance Evaluation of Adaptive H-infinity Filter
This study is related to the use of adaptive H-infinity filter for multi sensor data fusion ( based tracking. AHIF can work efficiently in the presence of uncertainties using sliding window concept. In the present use of , the length of window size is varied to eliminate/minimize the estimation errors and predict almost precise location of a target. Simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate performance of in comparison with Kalman and H-Infinity filters for mild and evasive maneuvering targets. Performs better in terms location accuracy and position fit error
Screening for psychosocial risk in caregivers of children with medical complexity during the COVID-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study
Objective The primary objective was to quantify psychosocial risk in family caregivers (FCs) of children with medical complexity (CMC) during the COVID-19 pandemic using the Psychosocial Assessment Tool (PAT). The secondary objectives were to compare this finding with the average PAT score of this population before the COVID-19 pandemic and to examine potential clinical predictors of psychosocial risk in FCs of CMC.Design Cross-sectional study.Participants FCs of CMC were recruited from the Long-Term Ventilation Clinic at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A total of 91 completed the demographic and PAT questionnaires online from 10 June 2021 through 13 December 2021.Main outcome measures Mean PAT scores in FCs were categorised as ‘Universal’ low risk, ‘Targeted’ intermediate risk or ‘Clinical’ high risk. The effect of sociodemographic and clinical variables on overall PAT scores was assessed using multiple linear regression analysis. Comparisons with a previous study were made using Mann-Whitney tests and χ2 analysis.Results Mean (SD) PAT score was 1.34 (0.69). Thirty-one (34%) caregivers were classified as Universal, 43 (47%) as Targeted and 17 (19%) as Clinical. The mean PAT score (1.34) was significantly higher compared with the mean PAT score (1.17) found prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated an overall significant model, with the number of hospital admissions since the onset of COVID-19 being the only variable associated with the overall PAT score.Conclusion FCs of CMC are experiencing significant psychosocial stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Timely and effective interventions are warranted to ensure these individuals receive the appropriate support
Association between Prior Malignancy Exclusion Criteria and Age Disparities in Cancer Clinical Trials
Prior malignancy exclusion criteria (PMEC) are often utilized in cancer clinical trials; however, the incidence of PMEC and the association of PMEC with trial participant age disparities remain poorly understood. This study aimed to identify age disparities in oncologic randomized clinical trials as a result of PMEC. Using a comprehensive collection of modern phase III cancer clinical trials obtained via ClinicalTrials.gov, we assessed the incidence and covariates associated with trials excluding patients with prior cancers within 5+ years from registration (PMEC-5). Using the National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, we further sought to determine the correlation between PMEC-5 and age disparities. PMEC-5 were used in 41% of all trials, with higher PMEC-5 utilization among industry-supported trials as well as trials evaluating a targeted therapy. Comparing trial patient median ages with population-matched median ages by disease site and time-period, we assessed the association between PMEC-5 and age disparities among trial participants. PMEC-5 were independently associated with heightened age disparities, which further worsened with longer exclusionary timeframes. Together, PMEC likely contribute to age disparities, suggesting that eligibility criteria modernization through narrower PMEC timeframes may work toward reducing such disparities in cancer clinical trial enrollment
Surgical site infection rates in six cities of India: findings of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC)
Surgical site infections are a threat to patient safety. However, in India, data on their rates stratified by surgical procedure are not available.
From January 2005 to December 2011, the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) conducted a cohort prospective surveillance study on surgical site infections in 10 hospitals in 6 Indian cities. CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (CDC-NHSN) methods were applied and surgical procedures were classified into 11 types, according to the ninth edition of the International Classification of Diseases.
We documented 1189 surgical site infections, associated with 28 340 surgical procedures (4.2%; 95% CI: 4.0-4.4). Surgical site infections rates were compared with INICC and CDC-NHSN reports, respectively: 4.3% for coronary bypass with chest and donor incision (4.5% vs 2.9%); 8.3% for breast surgery (1.7% vs 2.3%); 6.5% for cardiac surgery (5.6% vs 1.3%); 6.0% for exploratory abdominal surgery (4.1% vs 2.0%), among others.
In most types of surgical procedures, surgical site infections rates were higher than those reported by the CDC-NHSN, but similar to INICC. This study is an important advancement towards the knowledge of surgical site infections epidemiology in the participating Indian hospitals that will allow us to introduce targeted interventions

This conference is the first of its kind organized by NIT-W which covered an array of interesting topics in biotechnology. This makes it a bit special as it brings together researchers from different disciplines of biotechnology, which in turn will also open new research and cooperation fields for them.

Initial invasive or conservative strategy for stable coronary disease
BACKGROUND Among patients with stable coronary disease and moderate or severe ischemia, whether clinical outcomes are better in those who receive an invasive intervention plus medical therapy than in those who receive medical therapy alone is uncertain. METHODS We randomly assigned 5179 patients with moderate or severe ischemia to an initial invasive strategy (angiography and revascularization when feasible) and medical therapy or to an initial conservative strategy of medical therapy alone and angiography if medical therapy failed. The primary outcome was a composite of death from cardiovascular causes, myocardial infarction, or hospitalization for unstable angina, heart failure, or resuscitated cardiac arrest. A key secondary outcome was death from cardiovascular causes or myocardial infarction. RESULTS Over a median of 3.2 years, 318 primary outcome events occurred in the invasive-strategy group and 352 occurred in the conservative-strategy group. At 6 months, the cumulative event rate was 5.3% in the invasive-strategy group and 3.4% in the conservative-strategy group (difference, 1.9 percentage points; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.8 to 3.0); at 5 years, the cumulative event rate was 16.4% and 18.2%, respectively (difference, 121.8 percentage points; 95% CI, 124.7 to 1.0). Results were similar with respect to the key secondary outcome. The incidence of the primary outcome was sensitive to the definition of myocardial infarction; a secondary analysis yielded more procedural myocardial infarctions of uncertain clinical importance. There were 145 deaths in the invasive-strategy group and 144 deaths in the conservative-strategy group (hazard ratio, 1.05; 95% CI, 0.83 to 1.32). CONCLUSIONS Among patients with stable coronary disease and moderate or severe ischemia, we did not find evidence that an initial invasive strategy, as compared with an initial conservative strategy, reduced the risk of ischemic cardiovascular events or death from any cause over a median of 3.2 years.
