    Diffractive dissociation including pomeron loops in zero transverse dimensions

    We have recently studied the QCD pomeron loop evolution equations in zero transverse dimensions [Shoshi:2005pf]. Using the techniques developed in [Shoshi:2005pf] together with the AGK cutting rules, we present a calculation of single, double and central diffractive cross sections (for large diffractive masses and large rapidity gaps) in zero transverse dimensions in which all dominant pomeron loop graphs are consistently summed. We find that the diffractive cross sections unitarise at asymptotic energies and that they are suppressed by powers of alpha_s. Our calculation is expected to expose some of the diffractive physics in hadron-hadron collisions at high energy.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures; numerous explanations added, matches the published versio

    The BFKL Pomeron Calculus in zero transverse dimensions: diffractive processes and survival probability for central diffractive production

    In this paper we discuss the processes of diffractive production in the framework of the BFKL Pomeron calculus in zero transverse dimension. Considering the diffractive production of a bunch of particles with not very large masses, namely, \ln\Lb M^2/m^2 \Rb \ll \frac{1}{\bas} \ln\Lb \frac{N^2_c}{\bas^2}\Rb, we found explicit formulae for calculation of the cross sections for the single and double diffractive production as well as for the value of the survival probability for the diffractive central production. These formulae include the influence of the correlations due to so called Pomeron loops on the values of all discussed observables. The comparison with the other approaches on the market is given. The main conclusion of this comparison: the Mueller-Patel-Salam-Iancu approximation gives sufficiently good descriptions and close to the exact result for elastic and diffractive cross section but considerable overshoot the value of the survival probability.Comment: 25 page

    Elliptic flow in nuclear collisions at the Large Hadron Collider

    We use perfect-fluid hydrodynamical model to predict the elliptic flow coefficients in Pb + Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The initial state for the hydrodynamical calculation for central A+AA + A collisions is obtained from the perturbative QCD + saturation (EKRT) model. The centrality dependence of the initial state is modeled by the optical Glauber model. We show that the baseline results obtained from the framework are in good agreement with the data from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), and show predictions for the pTp_T spectra and elliptic flow of pions in Pb + Pb collisions at the LHC. Also mass and multiplicity effects are discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure

    Survival probability in diffractive Higgs production in high density QCD

    In this paper, the contribution of hard processes described by the BFKL pomeron exchange, is taken into account by calculating the first enhanced diagram. The survival probability is estimated, using the ratio of the first enhanced diagram and the single pomeron amplitude, taking into account all essential pomeron loop diagrams in the toy model of Mueller. The triple pomeron vertex is calculated explicitly in the momentum representation. This calculation is used for estimating the survival probability, It turns out that the survival probability is small, at 0.40.4%{}. Hard pomeron re-scattering processes contribute substantially to the survival probability.Comment: 28 pages, 7 figure

    About possible contribution of intrinsic charm component to inclusive spectra of charmed mesons

    We calculate differential energy spectra (xFx_F-distributions) of charmed particles produced in proton-nucleus collisions, assuming the existence of intrinsic heavy quark components in the proton wave function. For the calculation, the recently proposed factorization scheme is used, based on the Color Glass Condensate theory and specially suited for predictions of a production of particles with large rapidities. It is argued that the intrinsic charm component can, if it exists, dominate in a sum of two components, intrinsic + extrinsic, of the inclusive spectrum of charmed particles produced in proton-nucleus collisions at high energies, in the region of medium xFx_F, 0.15<xF<0.70.15 < x_F < 0.7, and can give noticeable contribution to atmospheric fluxes of prompt muons and neutrinos.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures.     Inclusive Gluon Production In High Energy Onium-Onium Scattering

    We calculate the inclusive single-gluon production cross section in high energy onium-onium scattering including pomeron loop effects. The resulting inclusive cross section is given by the k_T-factorization formula with one of the unintegrated gluon distribution functions depending on the total onium-onium scattering cross section, which includes all pomeron loops and has to be found independently. We discuss the limits of applicability of our result and argue that they are given by the limits of applicability of pomeron loop resummation approach. Since the obtained k_T-factorization formula is infrared divergent we conclude that, in order to consistently calculate the (infrared-finite) gluon production cross section in onium-onium scattering, one has to include corrections going beyond the pomeron loop approximation.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures; v2: version accepted to Phys.     Nuclear Modification Factor in d+Au Collisions: Onset of Suppression in the Color Glass Condensate

    We perform a quantitative analysis of the nuclear modification factor in deuteron--gold collisions R(dAu) within the Color Glass Condensate approach, and compare our results with the recent data from RHIC experiments. Our model leads to Cronin enhancement at mid-rapidity, while at forward rapidities it predicts strong suppression of R(dAu) at all pT due to low-x evolution. We demonstrate that our results are consistent with the data for dAu charged hadron spectra, R(dAu) and R(CP) recently reported for rapidities in the interval eta=0--3.2 by the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC.
