Voters' Impacts on Creators' Popularity Disparity and Network Size in Two-sided Decentralized User-Generated Content Market

    Get PDF
The development of decentralized technologies greatly facilitates the growth of user-generated content (UGC) markets. However, existing literature debates whether the decentralized UGC platform model can be economically sustainable. This study investigates the differential impacts of four voter groups, categorized by their social engagement and financial investment, on the two critical issues pertaining to decentralized UGC markets (i.e., creator popularity disparity and content contribution). We empirically tested our hypotheses using data from a leading decentralized UGC platform. The results indicate a consumer engagement tradeoff between promoting fair growth opportunities in the interest of the creators and extending the creator network in the interest of the platform. Our findings shed light on how creator popularity disparity may arise through votes from the four voter groups and their differential network externalities exerted on the creator network

MAPPING OF FLOOD SUSCEPTIBILITY IN CAMPINA GRANDE COUNTY – PB: A SPATIAL MULTICRITERIA APPROACH

The social and economic impacts caused by floods in urban areas are diverse and increase as the land becomes gradually impervious. Due to the increasing urbanization of cities, it is necessary to implement a better planning process and optimize the urban spaces management and occupation. Thus, the government needs to gather reliable and useful data for the decision-making process. Therefore, the GIS plays an important role among urban planning instruments. Given the current situation in Campina Grande County, Paraiba State, Brazil - an area continually facing disturbances caused by occasional and concentrated rainfalls - the current study aims to map the areas seen as the most susceptible to floods, by using a MCDA GIS-based model (Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis). There are five quantitative criteria considered in the analysis: slope, altitude, roads with drainage infrastructure, distance from water bodies and land use. It is a pixel by pixel analysis based on predetermined assumptions. Fuzzy functions were developed and overlay operations were performed. The results were consistent with historical records and with previous studies about the county, thus adding reliability to the model, which can be considered a potential management instrument for the case study area, as well as for cities facing similar issues

Imaging the passionate stage of romantic love by dopamine dynamics.

Using [(11)C]raclopride, a dopamine D2/D3 receptor antagonist, we undertook a positron emission tomography (PET) study to investigate the involvement of the dopaminergic neurotransmitter system when subjects viewed the pictures of partners to whom they were romantically attached. Ten subjects viewed pictures of their romantic partners and, as a control, of friends of the same sex for whom they had neutral feelings during the PET study. We administered [(11)C]raclopride to subjects using a timing for injecting the antagonist which had been determined in previous studies to be optimal for detecting increases in the amount of dopamine released by stimulation. The results demonstrated statistically significant activation of the dopaminergic system in two regions, the medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC) and medial prefrontal cortex, the former of which has been strongly implicated in a variety of rewarding experiences, including that of beauty and love. A positive correlation was obtained in mOFC between excitement levels and dopaminergic activation only in the love but not in the control condition

Loss of Heterozygosity in Thyroid Tumors

We analyzed 53 loci on 21 chromosomes other than chromosome 4 to detect possible loss of heterozygosity in 31 thyroid tumors using polymorphic DNA markers that detect allelic deletions at specific chromosomal loci. Loss of heterozygosity on chromosomes 1, 7 and 12 was detected in one follicular thyroid adenoma, and on chromosome 1 in two medullary thyroid carcinomas. However, no loss of heterozygosity was detected at any of the loci examined in papillary thyroid carcinomas. These results suggest that chromosomal loss detected in thyroid adenoma is one of the signals for risk of premalignant transformation, and that inactivation of unknown genes on chromosome 1p contributes to tumorigenesis of medullary thyroid carcinoma. Some genetic changes other than chromosomal losses may participate in the tumorigenesis of papillary thyroid carcinoma

The patient was 33-year-old woman, who was diagnosed as having left breast cancer at the 12th week of pregnancy and referred to our hospital. In palpation and ultrasonography, we found a tumor but no swelling lymph nodes in the C area of the left breast. Core needle biopsy showed invasive ductul carcinoma with ER(-), PgR(-) and HER2+(3+). At 16th week of pregnancy, partial resection and the sentinel lymph node biopsy of left breast were performed to the patient. After the surgery, she received 4 courses of doxorubicin+cyclophosphamide therapy (AC therapy), and at 35th week of pregnancy, she delivered her baby by cesarean section. During the pregnancy and operation, there had not been any problems with the patient and her baby. After the childbirth, she underwent 4 courses of docetaxel+trastumab therapy (TH therapy) and the remaining tumor was removed. Now, she is undergoing radiotherapy and neither recurrence nor metastasis is observed

We report two cases of cystadenoma and cystadenocarcinoma of the liver. Case 1 : A 38-yearold woman, complaining of discomfort of upper abdomen, was detected a cystic tumor in segment 5of the liver by abdominal CT scan. A part of the tumor had an enhanced lesion the angiographyshowed an enhanced peripheral staining of the cystic lesion. S 5-6 segmentectomy was performed. The resected material showed that the tumor was a multilocular and cystic lesion, histopathologicallywas diagnosed as hepatobiliary cystadenoma. Case 2 : A 72-year old man was incidentallypointed out a liver tumor in the left lobe at an examination of pneumonia. Abdominal CT scanshowed a papillary enhanced solid lesion in cystic tumor with invasion to the caudate lobe. ERCPshowed a filling defect in the common bile duct. Extended left hepatic lobectomy, caudate lobectomyand extrahepatic bile duct resection were performed. The final diagnosis was hepatobiliarycystadenocarcinoma.Cystadenoma is known to have a carcinogenic potential. In the case with suspition of neoplasticcyst, resection must be perfomed

A 79-year-old man, complaining of right hypochondralgia, was admitted to our hospital. Gastrointestinalendoscopy revealed a elevated lesion on the anterior wall of the gastric antrum. Adistal gastrectomy was performed. Histological findings confirmed the diagnosis of gastric choriocarcinoma, and there was coexistence of adenocarcinoma. The patient left the hospital in uneventfulpostoperative course. He had recurrence on remnant stomach on the third postoperativemonth. Also chemotherapy with TS-1 and paclitaxel was performed, was no effective, resulting inpatient death on the fourth postoperative month. The patient died of recurrence complicatedpneumonia. We reported on this case with some bibliographical comments

In 2016, disseminated tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium caprae was diagnosed in a captive Borneo elephant in Japan. The bacterium was initially identified from clinical isolates. An isolate collected during a relapse showed isoniazid monoresistance and a codon 315 katG mutation
