We analyze the preferences of a risk-averse auctioneer over several auction mechanisms with risk-neutral and symmetric bidders. We obtain the value at risk (VaR) for auctioneer revenue in auction mechanisms belonging to a parametric family which includes two classic mechanisms, the first-price auction and second-price auction. By calculating the VaR for revenue an auctioneer can estimate the amount that will be lost within a given confidence level, depending on the number of bidders and the auction mechanism chosen. The contribution of this paper is the calculation of the VaR for auctioneer revenue in some common auction mechanisms that yield the same expected revenue, including first??price auction and second-price auction and the following mechanisms: Santa Claus auction, sad-loser auction and all-pay auction. We describe how to quantify the maximum loss for an auctioneer at a given probability. We study the value at risk of the auctioneer as a criterion to determine which auctions would best suit the auctioneer's interestsAnalizamos las preferencias de un subastador con aversión al riesgo en diferentes modelos de subasta con participantes neutrales al riesgo y simétricos.

Labor relations have been characterized for the subordination; a power to be exercised within the limits set forth by the Constitution, the law, and the Internal Labor Rules; its intention is to impede the arbitrary and abusive use of this power. In this sense, the Constitutional Court has established that even private entities should respect the due process and its principles during the execution of any disciplinary investigation; therefore, the article is intended to build a tool to explain how to apply the principles of a due process within a Corporate Disciplinary Procedure, describing the stages to be reached to avoid the violation of basic rights of employees who may be involved in a disciplinary investigation; stages which are indispensable for the validity of the penalty to be imposed

Physical principles of memory and logic devices based on nanostructured Dirac materials

During the las decades, the silicon-based semiconductor industry has enabled higher performance per cost of integrated circuits due to the ability of nearly doubling the amount of transistors per chip every two years, however, this has resulted in overheating issues and fundamental manufacturing problems that are very di¿cult to solve. Therefore, Dirac materials (DMs), such as graphene and topological insulators (TIs), are being extensively investigated as possible candidates for replacing silicon-channel devices in the next-generation integrated circuits, due to their attractive ultrahigh carrier mobility and possibility of quantum e¿ects that may be useful for electronic applications. This requires to study the physical principles of such nanostructures to e¿ectivelypredictthequantumtransportbehaviorofpossibledevices. Theaimofthis work is to explore the physical properties of Dirac material-based nanostructures that could be used for novel memory and logic devices, by using tight-binding (TB) and density function theory (DFT) methods combined with the non-equilibrium function (NEGF) formulationDoctoradoDOCTOR(A) EN INGENIERÍA ELECTRICA Y ELECTRÓNIC

Effects of foliar fertilization of a biostimulant obtained from chicken feathers on maize yield

    Get PDF
Due to the important contribution that it makes to human nutrition, maize is one of the most widely-consumed cereals in the world. There is, therefore, high demand for fertilizers that will maintain maize production at both high yield and quality levels. The objective of this work was to study the effect of foliar fertilization using a biostimulant, obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis from chicken feathers, on the productivity and quality of maize crops (Zea mays, L. cv PR32W86 Pioneer), located in Trujillanos (Extremadura, Spain), over two consecutive seasons. Foliar biostimulant/biofertilizer was applied three times each season and at two rates (3.6 and 7.2 l ha−1). At the higher rate and for both seasons, foliar fertilization significantly increased the leaf concentrations of macro- and micronutrients, while grain protein content and yield increased by 26% and 14%. These results suggest that the foliar use of this biostimulant could be of great interest to the farmer for improving both maize crop yield and quality.Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad CTM2015-64354-C3-1-RMinisterio de Economia y Competitividad CTM2015-64354-C3-3-RJunta de Andalucía RNM-2011-788

Classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculation of the recoil-ion momentum distribution for positron-impact ionization collisions

    Get PDF
We investigate ionization processes induced by positron impact on H 2 by studying the momentum distributions of the receding ion. To this end, we employ classical trajectory Monte Carlo techniques. The investigation of the recoil ion momentum distribution allows us to shed new light on some known phenomena like the familiar electron capture to the continuum peak of electron momentum spectroscopy, and also to unveil new structures which-up to our knowledge-have never been reported in the literature. We propose that some of these new effects represent fingerprints of a strong orientation of low-energy electrons into the direction of motion of the electron-positron centre of mass. We analyse the mechanisms that might give rise to these effects, and relate them to structures in the electron and positron momentum distributions. We also discuss how these theoretical predictions can be put to test in actual positron reaction microscopic experiments.Fil: Barrachina Tejada, Raul Oscar. Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica. On a formula of Thompson and McEnteggert for the adjugate matrix

For an eigenvalue lambda(0) of a Hermitian matrix A, the formula of Thompson and McEnteggert gives an explicit expression of the adjugate of lambda I-0 - A, Adj(lambda I-0 - A), in terms of eigenvectors of Afor lambda(0) and all its eigenvalues. In this paper Thompson-McEnteggert's formula is generalized to include any matrix with entries in an arbitrary field. In addition, for any nonsingular matrix A, a formula for the elementary divisors of Adj(A) is provided in terms of those of A. Finally, a generalization of the eigenvalue-eigenvector identity and three applications of the Thompson-McEnteggert's formula are presented.Partially supported by the Centre for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra - UIDB/00324/2020, funded by the Portuguese Government through FCT/MCTES. La depresión aumenta el riesgo de mal control metabólico pero no significativamente.OBJECTIVES: To determinee if depression and distress related to diabetes are risk factors of poor metabolic control in adults with diabetes mellitus type 2.
