Orientação: Joana Maria Barreto Ramos de Almeida CabralNos dias de hoje continuam a existir pessoas a viver em condições de carência quer material, quer afetiva, condições que são adversas ao desenvolvimento biopsicossocial de um serhumano. Desta forma, o presente estudo pretendeu explorar a perceção sobre a rede de suporte e relacional das pessoas em situação de sem-abrigo, procurando explorar a história das relações desde a infância até às relações atuais. Na amostra deste estudo três dos participantes estão em situação de sem-abrigo, sendo que um encontra-se fora desta condição, mas em situação económica e de habitação precárias. Os participantes têm idades compreendidas entre os 30 e os 50 anos. Administrou-se uma entrevista semiestruturada adaptada do guião da entrevista de McAdams (1995), The Life Story Interview, focando alguns tópicos do guião (resumo e fases da história, momentos importantes, desafios, futuros possíveis). Para a análise dos dados utilizou-se o NVivo 11 software e posteriormente a análise temática. Os resultados deste estudo apontaram para a importância das relações sociais, quer como causa quer como a solução desta condição. A população em situação de sem-abrigo valoriza, principalmente, a relação com os técnicos e voluntários de rua que tentam combater o isolamento.Nowadays, there are still people living in conditions of both material and affective deficiencies, conditions that are adverse to the biopsychosocial development of a human being. Thus, the present study aimed to explore the perception about the support and relational network of homeless people, seeking to explore the history of relationships from childhood to current relationships. In the sample of this study, three of the participants are homeless, and one is out of this condition, but in a precarious economic and housing situation. Participants are between the ages of 30 and 50. There was a semi-structured interview adapted from McAdams' 1995 interview, The Life Story Interview, focusing on some topics in the script (summary and phases of the story, important moments, challenges, possible futures). For the analysis of the data the NVivo 11 software was used and later the thematic analysis. The results of this study pointed to the importance of social relations, both as a cause and as a solution to this condition. The homeless population values, in particular, the relationship with technicians and street volunteers who try to combat isolation

Impacts of information asymmetry on the capital structure of Brazilian publicly-traded firms

Diversas teorias tentam explicar o que determina a política de financiamento adotada pelas empresas. Uma das abordagens existentes, a Teoria de Pecking Order, foca a assimetria de informação como um importante determinante da estrutura de capital. No presente trabalho, busca-se analisar o pressuposto central da referida teoria e verificar se a assimetria de informação influencia nas decisões de financiamento de empresas brasileiras abertas no período 1997-2007. Para tanto, são utilizadas variáveis proxies para assimetria de informação, além de variáveis de controle representativas de características das empresas. Utiliza-se a técnica de análise de dados em painel. Como resultado principal, encontra-se que empresas consideradas com menor grau de assimetria informacional são mais endividadas que as demais na análise do nível de endividamento total, resultado contrário à teoria de pecking order, em que essas empresas teriam a oportunidade de captar recursos por meio da emissão de ações devido à baixa probabilidade de ocorrência dos problemas derivados da assimetria de informação. No entanto, esse resultado apóia a relação esperada alternativa, na qual empresas com menor assimetria informacional propiciam maior facilidade de avaliação do seu risco por parte dos credores, o que poderia aumentar a oferta de crédito, favorecendo a utilização de dívidas por meio da redução dos custos de seleção adversa e pelo aumento da capacidade de financiamento dessas empresas. Nesse sentido, torna-se importante analisar, também, o papel do risco ao estabelecer uma hierarquia de preferências por fontes alternativas de financiamento utilizadas por empresas brasileiras.Several theories try to explain what determines the financing policy firms adopt. One of the existent approaches, Pecking Order Theory, focuses on information asymmetry as an important determinant of the capital structure. In the present work, we try to analyze the central presumption of the referred theory and to verify if the information asymmetry influences the financing decisions of Brazilian open capital firms in the period 1997-2007. In order to do so, proxy variables are used for information asymmetry, besides control variables that represent firms' characteristics. Panel data analysis is the technique used. As the main result, it was found that companies considered to have the lowest degree of information asymmetry are higher leveraged than the others when analyzing the level of total debt. That result is contrary to the pecking order theory, where these companies would have the opportunity to raise resources by emitting shares, due to the low probability of occurring problems derived from information asymmetry. However, this result supports the expected alternative relation, where companies with lower asymmetric information make it easier for their debt holders to evaluate their risk, what could increase the credit offer, favoring the use of debt by reducing the adverse selection costs and increasing the debt capacity of these companies. In doing so, it becomes important to also analyze the role of the risk when establishing a hierarchy of preferences adopted by Brazilian firms regarding alternative financing sources

Letterforms as Visual Communication Elements

The purpose of this research is to explore the value and objectivity of written language through investigating human perception of letterforms as abstract visual communication elements. While communicating with one another is not unique to humans, and other species have been observed to be able to produce, perceive and learn different forms of communication, the visual aspect of human languages, represented in a an organized system of symbols is uniquely human. Languages, as our primary way of communication, possess an enormous power which is used to create and destroy, unite and divide, facilitate progress and reflect. This research will attempt to re-contextualize written symbols as abstract forms, look closely at their composition using basic design elements and principles and explore these abstractions outside their direct conventional meaning. During the research, we will look at typographic elements as subject matters in abstract art to challenge our accepted ideas of what is considered meaningful, explore visual aesthetics of letterforms in two and three-dimensional mediums, compare similar letterforms in different languages and touch upon the history of symbolic communication development from ancient to modern letterforms. The findings of this research will demonstrate how we are able to recognize letterforms even when they are presented as basic abstract shapes within or without their usual context, which will show how deeply ingrained our visual perception of letterforms is. Additionally, we will learn about the role of human visual perception in creating mental letterform representation and get familiarized with letterform similarities and differences across different languages. Being one of the most important design elements, typography is an incredibly powerful tool. The findings of this study will provide an impactful insight to any designer who wants to broaden their spectrum of understanding typography

Participatory Development of a Support Pillow for Bobbin Lace Makers of the City of Saubara, Bahia

A economia solidária tem se apresentado como alternativa de geração de trabalho e renda que, na sua essência, se constitui de valores de cooperação, democracia e solidariedade. Na economia solidária há a preocupação com a inclusão social geradora de benefícios econômicos e melhores condições de saúde e trabalho. Baseado nesse pensamento, realizou-se a análise ergonômica do trabalho (AET) das rendeiras de bilro da Associação dos Artesãos de Saubara, cidade localizada no Recôncavo Baiano. Os resultados da AET das rendeiras de bilro revelaram condições posturais inadequadas, durante o rendar, aspecto que pode provocar lesões na coluna vertebral e nos membros superiores. A partir da análise desses dados, foi proposta a criação de um suporte para as almofadas, onde são confeccionadas as rendas, seguindo o método do design participativo. Espera-se que esse suporte possa melhorar a qualidade de vida das rendeiras de bilro de Saubara, Bahia, e que essta iniciativa possa ser replicada por rendeiras de em outras regiões do Brasil.The solidarity economy's has emerged as alternative source of employment and income, which in essence there are values of cooperation, democracy and solidarity. In solidarity economy's concern with social inclusion that generates economic benefits and improved health and work. Based on that thought there was the ergonomic analysis of work (EAW) of bobbin lace makers of the Association of Artisans Saubara, a city in Recôncavo Baiano. The results of EAW for bobbin lace makers proved inadequate postural conditions during the render, an aspect that can damage the spine and upper limbs. From the analysis of these data was proposed to create a support for the cushions, where rents are made by the method of participatory design. It is hoped that this support can improve quality of life of bobbin lace makers of Saubara, Bahia and that this initiative can be replicated by the lace makers in other regions of Brazil

O modelo de negócio do Rock in Rio: uma perspetiva exploratória

Tema: Modelo de Negócio e Criação de Valor Partilhado. Âmbito: Construção do modelo de negócio do Rock in Rio. O conceito da criação de valor partilhado é integrada nesta dissertação para compreensão da abordagem da sustentabilidade do Rock in Rio. Objetivos: O objetivo principal deste trabalho é a construção do modelo de negócio do Rock in Rio com base no modelo canvas. Os objetivos secundários são análise do funcionamento do modelo de negócio, verificar de existência de políticas de criação de valor partilhado e a sua inserção no modelo de negócio. Metodologia: A presente dissertação é um estudo de caso, sendo realizada a análise de conteúdo de meios de comunicação social. Conclusões: O modelo de negócio do Rock in Rio é consistente, contudo dependente da realização de parcerias. A plataforma de comunicação da empresa é fundamental para o funcionamento do modelo de negócio. Os blocos do modelo de negócio com maior relevância são o segmento de clientes, proposta de valor e parcerias-chave. Não foram recolhidas evidências de utilização do conceito de criação de valor partilhado nas políticas de sustentabilidade da empresa. Limitações: A principal limitação registada na elaboração da dissertação foi a falta de informação direta, devido à falta de resposta em tempo útil da entrevista semiestruturada enviada ao Rock in Rio.Theme: Business Model and Creating Shared Value. Scope: The scope of this thesis is the construction of Rock in Rio’s business model. The concept of creating shared value is integrated in this master thesis for a better understanding about sustainability in Rock in Rio. Goals: The main goal of this academic work is the construction of Rock in Rio’s business model based on business model canvas. The secondary goals are the analysis of the way the business model works; examine if Rock in Rio apply policies of creating shared value; and if it does, where to place it on the business model. Methodology: This master thesis is a case study and the methodology used to get the results was the application. It was used content analysis to evaluate the interviews from the media. Conclusions: Rock in Rio’s business model is consistent, although it is quite dependent of the creation of partnerships. Its communication platform is critical for the success of their business model. The business model building blocks with greater relevance are the customer segments, value proposition and key partnerships. It was not found any evidence of the use of creating shared value in the company's sustainability policies. Limitations: The main limitation found during the investigation was the lack of direct information since the absence of timely response from the interview sent to the Rock in Rio
