[EN] In this final project, it has developed a business model based on an online store with a content management tool CMS. In order to reach that end, it has been necessary to make an analysis of the e-Commerce and m-Commerce sector in Spain and Europe. Then, it has analyzed the market looking for entry barriers and potential competitors, thus, this has allowed to develop strategies according to the idea of the business model. The next step it has been by performing a costbenefit analysis comparing the Dropshipping and Standard model. Finally, it has implemented the business with the CMS PrestashopTarazona Ros, M. (2016). Introduction: Surgical treatment outcomes for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm repair depend on patient factors and attending vascular team expertise. Objetives: To describe the outcomes of surgical treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm performed by an interdisciplinary team and to evaluate the effects of annual caseload and acquired expertise. Methods: Historic cohort of patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm diagnosis surgically trea-ted from January 1994 to June 2013. Three groups were established: Group 1 was for openruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, Group 2 was for open elective repair and Group 3 was for elective endovascular aneurysm repairs. Primary outcome was in-hospital mortality, andsecondary outcomes were peri-procedural morbidity. For analysis the cohort was divided in two: cases repaired from 1994 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2013. This was based in the implementation of endovascular therapy from 2002 at the institution. Results: 573 patients were treated; Group 1: 65 patients; Group 2: 433 patients; Group 3: 75 patients. Mortality was 28.6%, 2.8% and 1.3% respectively. A significant rise in annual case-load (233%) was demonstrated and a trend toward lowering in surgical mortality (4.8 vs. 2.0%,p = 0.19) after 2002. Conclusions: Implementation of endovascular repair has contributed to rising annual caseloadof patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm at our institution. This rising in volume correlateswith effective lowering in mortality. © 2015 Sociedad Colombiana de Cardiología y Cirugía Cardiovascular

Penetrating cardiac trauma: Analysis of 240 cases from a hospital in Bogota, Colombia

Background: Trauma characteristics and its management is influenced by socioeconomic context. Cardiac trauma constitutes a challenge for surgeons, and outcomes depend on multiple factors including initial care, characteristics of the wounds, and surgical management. Methods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional case series of patients with penetrating cardiac injuries (PCI) from January 1999 to October 2009 who underwent surgery in a trauma referral center in Bogotá, Colombia. Demographic variables, trauma characteristics, treatment, and outcomes were analyzed. Results: The study included 240 cases: 96.2% males, mean age of 27.8 years. Overall mortality was 14.6%: 11.7% from stab wounds and 41.2% from gunshot wounds. Upon admission, 44% had a normal hemodynamic status and 67% had cardiac tamponade. About 32% had Grade II injuries and 29% Grade IV injuries. In 85% of the cases, there were ventricular compromise and 55% of patients had associated lesions. In 150 cases, a pericardial window was performed. Highest mortality occurred in wounds to the right atrium. In tamponade patients, mortality was 20% being higher for gunshot wounds (54.5%) than for stab wounds (18%) (p = 0.0120). Conclusions: The study evidenced predominance of stab wounds. Based on characteristics of the trauma, patients, and survival rate, there is most likely a high pre-hospitalization mortality rate. The difference in mortality due to stab wounds and those produced by gunshots was more related to technical difficulties of the surgical repair than with the type of injury established by the Injury Grading Scale. Mortality was higher in patients with cardiac tamponade. Surgical management was satisfactory using pericardial window as the diagnostic method and sternotomy as the surgical approach. © 2017 The Author(s).Background: Trauma characteristics and its management is influenced by socioeconomic context.

Advancing microbiome research with machine learning : key findings from the ML4Microbiome COST action

    Get PDF
The rapid development of machine learning (ML) techniques has opened up the data-dense field of microbiome research for novel therapeutic, diagnostic, and prognostic applications targeting a wide range of disorders, which could substantially improve healthcare practices in the era of precision medicine. However, several challenges must be addressed to exploit the benefits of ML in this field fully. In particular, there is a need to establish "gold standard" protocols for conducting ML analysis experiments and improve interactions between microbiome researchers and ML experts. The Machine Learning Techniques in Human Microbiome Studies (ML4Microbiome) COST Action CA18131 is a European network established in 2019 to promote collaboration between discovery-oriented microbiome researchers and data-driven ML experts to optimize and standardize ML approaches for microbiome analysis. This perspective paper presents the key achievements of ML4Microbiome, which include identifying predictive and discriminatory 'omics' features, improving repeatability and comparability, developing automation procedures, and defining priority areas for the novel development of ML methods targeting the microbiome. The insights gained from ML4Microbiome will help to maximize the potential of ML in microbiome research and pave the way for new and improved healthcare practices
