Lateral heterogeneity and azimuthal anistropy of the upper mantle: Love and Rayleigh waves 100-250 sec
The lateral heterogeneity and apparent anisotropy of the upper mantle are studied by measuring Rayleigh and Love wave phase velocities in the period range 100-250 sec. Spherical harmonic descriptions of the lateral heterogeneity are obtained for order and degree up to 1=m=10. Slow regions are evident at the East Pacific rise, northeast Africa, Tibet, Tasman sea, southwestern North America and triple junctions in the Northern Atlantic and Indian oceans. Fast regions occur in Australia, western Pacific and the eastern Atlantic. Details which are not evident in previous studies include two fast regions in the central Pacific and the subduction zone in the Scotia Arc region. Inversion for azimuthal dependence showed (1) little correlation between the fast phase velocity directions and the plate motion vector in plate interiors, but (2) correlation of the fast direction with the perpendicular direction to trenches and ridges. Phase velocity is high when waves propagate perpendicular to these structures. Severe tradeoffs exist between heterogeneity and azimuthal dependence because of the yet unsatisfactory path coverage
Construction of wedge-local nets of observables through Longo-Witten endomorphisms. II
In the first part, we have constructed several families of interacting
wedge-local nets of von Neumann algebras. In particular, there has been
discovered a family of models based on the endomorphisms of the U(1)-current
algebra of Longo-Witten.
In this second part, we further investigate endomorphisms and interacting
models. The key ingredient is the free massless fermionic net, which contains
the U(1)-current net as the fixed point subnet with respect to the U(1) gauge
action. Through the restriction to the subnet, we construct a new family of
Longo-Witten endomorphisms on the U(1)-current net and accordingly interacting
wedge-local nets in two-dimensional spacetime. The U(1)-current net admits the
structure of particle numbers and the S-matrices of the models constructed here
do mix the spaces with different particle numbers of the bosonic Fock space.Comment: 33 pages, 1 tikz figure. The final version is available under Open

pax1-1 partially suppresses gain-of-function mutations in Arabidopsis AXR3/IAA17
Background: The plant hormone auxin exerts many of its effects on growth and development by controlling transcription of downstream genes. The Arabidopsis gene AXR3/IAA17 encodes a member of the Aux/IAA family of auxin responsive transcriptional repressors. Semi-dominant mutations in AXR3 result in an increased amplitude of auxin responses due to hyperstabilisation of the encoded protein. The aim of this study was to identify novel genes involved in auxin signal transduction by screening for second site mutations that modify the axr3-1 gain-of-function phenotype. Results: We present the isolation of the partial suppressor of axr3-1 (pax1-1) mutant, which partially suppresses almost every aspect of the axr3-1 phenotype, and that of the weaker axr3-3 allele. axr3-1 protein turnover does not appear to be altered by pax1-1. However, expression of an AXR3:: GUS reporter is reduced in a pax1-1 background, suggesting that PAX1 positively regulates AXR3 transcription. The pax1-1 mutation also affects the phenotypes conferred by stabilising mutations in other Aux/IAA proteins; however, the interactions are more complex than with axr3-1. Conclusion: We propose that PAX1 influences auxin response via its effects on AXR3 expression and that it regulates other Aux/IAAs secondarily
On the equivalence of two deformation schemes in quantum field theory
Two recent deformation schemes for quantum field theories on the
two-dimensional Minkowski space, making use of deformed field operators and
Longo-Witten endomorphisms, respectively, are shown to be equivalent.Comment: 14 pages, no figure. The final version is available under Open

Cosmological Family Asymmetry and CP violation
We discuss how the cosmological baryon asymmetry can be achieved by the
lepton family asymmetries of heavy Majorana neutrino decays and they are
related to CP violation in neutrino oscillation, in the minimal seesaw model
with two heavy Majorana neutrinos. We derive the most general formula for CP
violation in neutrino oscillation in terms of the heavy Majorana masses and
Yukawa mass term. It is shown that the formula is very useful to classify
several models in which , and leptogenesis can be separately
realized and to see how they are connected with low energy CP violaton. To make
the models predictive, we take texture with two zeros in the Dirac neutrino
Yukawa matrix. In particular, we find some interesting cases in which CP
violation in neutrino oscillation can happen while lepton family asymmetries do
not exist at all. On the contrary, we can find , and
leptogenesis scenarios in which the cosmological CP violation and low
energy CP violation measurable via neutrino oscillations are very closely
related to each other. By determining the allowed ranges of the parameters in
the models, we predict the sizes of CP violation in neutrino oscillation and
. Finally, the leptonic unitarity triangles are reconstructed.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures A figure caption correcte
Scalar fields on SL(2,R) and H^2 x R geometric spacetimes and linear perturbations
Using appropriate harmonics, we study the future asymptotic behavior of
massless scalar fields on a class of cosmological vacuum spacetimes. The
spatial manifold is assumed to be a circle bundle over a higher genus surface
with a locally homogeneous metric. Such a manifold corresponds to the
SL(2,R)-geometry (Bianchi VIII type) or the H^2 x R-geometry (Bianchi III
type). After a technical preparation including an introduction of suitable
harmonics for the circle-fibered Bianchi VIII to separate variables, we derive
systems of ordinary differential equations for the scalar field. We present
future asymptotic solutions for these equations in a special case, and find
that there is a close similarity with those on the circle-fibered Bianchi III
spacetime. We discuss implications of this similarity, especially to
(gravitational) linear perturbations. We also point out that this similarity
can be explained by the "fiber term dominated behavior" of the two models.Comment: 23 pages, no figures, to be published in Class. Quant. Gravi
Towards integrable perturbation of 2d CFT on de Sitter space
We describe a procedure to deform the dynamics of a two-dimensional conformal
net to possibly obtain a Haag-Kastler net on the de Sitter spacetime. The new
dynamics is given by adding a primary field smeared on the time-zero circle to
the Lorentz generators of the conformal net.
As an example, we take an extension of the chiral U(1)-current net by a
charged field with conformal dimension d < 1/4. We show that the perturbing
operators are defined on a dense domain.Comment: 19 pages, 1 TikZ figur
Multi-lectin Affinity Chromatography and Quantitative Proteomic Analysis Reveal Differential Glycoform Levels between Prostate Cancer and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Sera.
Currently prostate-specific antigen is used for prostate cancer (PCa) screening, however it lacks the necessary specificity for differentiating PCa from other diseases of the prostate such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), presenting a clinical need to distinguish these cases at the molecular level. Protein glycosylation plays an important role in a number of cellular processes involved in neoplastic progression and is aberrant in PCa. In this study, we systematically interrogate the alterations in the circulating levels of hundreds of serum proteins and their glycoforms in PCa and BPH samples using multi-lectin affinity chromatography and quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Specific lectins (AAL, PHA-L and PHA-E) were used to target and chromatographically separate core-fucosylated and highly-branched protein glycoforms for analysis, as differential expression of these glycan types have been previously associated with PCa. Global levels of CD5L, CFP, C8A, BST1, and C7 were significantly increased in the PCa samples. Notable glycoform-specific alterations between BPH and PCa were identified among proteins CD163, C4A, and ATRN in the PHA-L/E fraction and among C4BPB and AZGP1 glycoforms in the AAL fraction. Despite these modest differences, substantial similarities in glycoproteomic profiles were observed between PCa and BPH sera
