    EFL student’s motivation in learning English in Langsa, Aceh

    The research deals with the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of EFL learners in learning English. This research used the qualitative design to find out the EFL learners’ motivation in learning English, specifically to their intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The participants consist of 40 senior high school students in Langsa. The questionnaire was the instrument used in collecting data. The questionnaire consists of 35 items, in which they are divided into two parts. The first part, numbers 1 until 20, is to collect the information about intrinsic motivation and inquires about interest, need, hobby and goal. Meanwhile, the second part, numbers 21 until 35, is to collect information about extrinsic motivation and inquires about teachers, parents, and the environment. The results showed that the component in the extrinsic motivation that gave the biggest impact to the students are the teachers; who are the student’s biggest influence in learning English. Meanwhile, the biggest component of intrinsic motivation is the students’ own learning goals. The paper further describes each of these factors in relation to their motivation. The implication of this study related to the teachers’ efforts and capability in motivating their students to learn English is also discussed

    ANALYSIS OF MANAGEMENT STUDENTS UNDERSTANDING OF INTERLINGUAL TRANSLATION ABOUT SURAH AT-TAUBAH VERSE 60

    Management students from universities that are affiliated to the Islamic religion must understand the verses from the Qur'an that explain zakat. In bilingual learning, the first language or in the case of zakat regarding Surah At-Taubah verse 60, Arabic will be a source of interference and errors if there are significant differences between different languages. This research uses quantitative descriptive method. The data was obtained by giving a test in the form of questions about interlingual translation to five management students who were chosen randomly in order to determine the level of understanding of Surah At-Taubah verse 60. The questions given were 8 types of zakat recipients according to the explanation by Zakky and Djayusman (2018) for translated, namely faqir, masakin, amil, Mua'alafah Qulubuhum, riqab, gharim, fi sabilillah and ibn sabil. All students managed to answer 8 questions about the recipients of zakat as stated in Surah At-Taubah verse 60 correctly interlingually so that the level of student understanding was successful.Kata Kunci:  At-Taubah; Interlingual; Management; dan Zaka

    Quality of translation via google translate in comedy texts

    A translation process of considerable quality should possess the ability to effectively communicate a clear and definite meaning from the source language to the target language. While Google Translate serves as a useful tool for comprehending translated textual content in a general sense, it is important to note that automated machines still possess inherent weaknesses and limitations. The translation of jokes within comedic texts, particularly in relation to language and cultural differences, proves to be a challenging task. This research was undertaken utilizing a qualitative-descriptive approach, with the bilingual comedy book titled "Jokes in English-Book 1" serving as the subject of study. The primary objective of this research is to assess the level of translation quality achieved by machine translation in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability, and to compare these results with the translations provided in the bilingual book. The findings of this research indicate that 62.5% of the translations exhibit a high level of accuracy, while 37.5% are somewhat less accurate. Furthermore, 37.5% of the translations are deemed acceptable, while 62.5% are regarded as less acceptable. Finally, 37.5% of the translations demonstrate a high degree of readability, whereas 62.5% exhibit a moderate level of readability. Upon comparing the translation results obtained from Google Translate with the original translations presented in the bilingual book, it was determined that 100% of the translations in the book were found to be satisfactory in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. Although the translations from English to Indonesian of comedy texts via Google Translate are deemed satisfactory, there is still room for improvement and ongoing development in order to enhance the quality of these translations

    UNDERSTANDING OF INTERLINGUAL TRANSLATION "DI ATAS" BY AGRIBUSINESS STUDENTS IN PROGRAM OF ENGLISH AS GENERAL COURSE STUDY

    Translation learning is one of the main focuses in language learning and teaching activities in the English class in the agribusiness study program at the University of Samudra so that consciously or unconsciously students have taken the action of translating between Indonesian and English. This study wants to see the ability of bilingual translation with respect to the word 'di atas' which is translated from Indonesian to English. The interlingual translation of the word 'di atas' results in several products of translating into English such as the preposition 'on', 'above' and 'over'. Starting from the same source language but after being translated into English, the three interlingual translation products have almost the same function and but not the same thing. This research method is a test method with a quantitative descriptive approach given through the Whatspp application because the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing until this research is worked on. The research object was 32 students with a time limit given to answer the test is 15 minutes. With the dominance of the student's success in answering the test correctly and the success rate being above 50% or half of the total number of research objects, the student's ability to answer the test correctly to the interlingual translation problem in this study is good. Likewise, from the questionnaire data obtained as many as 59% of students who translate interlingually 'di atas’ into over, it can be concluded that students are good at understanding the function of the prepositions given in the test questions

U (Coconut) as a basic material for PKM training is one of 17 plant species for Acehnese special food that comes from intensive cultivation. Perior's problems are the increasing need for immune supplements against the COVID-19 pandemic that is effective and has a selling value from ingredients that are easily obtained by PKK mothers in Gampong Bayeun, Birem Bayeun District, East Aceh Regency, especially coconut and spices and the lack of knowledge of PKK mothers in the use and process of entrepreneurship for immune supplements. Justification of Solutions to Partner Problems is training in making jelly from spice-roasted coconut as an immune supplement for PKK mothers in Bayeun Village during the COVID-19 outbreak and increasing the empowerment of mothers in the entrepreneurial process and making natural immune supplements in the form of jelly from spice-roasted coconut during the COVID-19 pandemic. Implementation methods are field survey, schedule determination, preparation, training, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

    PKBM Wan Nur prioritizes basic English learning for children. Children are the nation's future partners because with the possession of English skills, future leaders have inherited the procedures for communicating internationally in the era of globalization. The problems faced in the implementation of service activities are the increasing need for English language training for children, especially in PKBM Huda Wan Nur, the need for active coaching and socialization in fostering interest in learning English at PKBM Huda Wan Nur and the need for empowering positive mindsets for teachers about the importance of English for children. From the results of the study of the problems faced, the solutions that can be proposed to solve the existing problems are English language training for children at PKBM Huda Wan Nur and Increasing the empowerment of digital learning media in fulfilling interactive teaching materials for children at PKBM Huda Wan Nur. The implementation method is a field survey, scheduling, preparation, explanation, training, and evaluation. The children really enjoyed actively and seriously the basic English training activities related to nouns in the form of pictures of animals, fruits and flowers with bilingual texts that used teaching materials that could be obtained digitally.PKBM Wan Nur mengutamakan pembelajaran bahasa inggris dasar bagi anak-anak. Anak-anak adalah mitra masa depan bangsa karena dengan kepemilikan skill berbahasa inggris maka pemimpin masa depan telah mewarisi tata cara berkomunikasi secara international di era globalisasi. Persoalan yang dihadapi terhadap permasalahan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian yaitu Meningkatnya kebutuhan pelatihan bahasa inggris bagi anak-anak terutama di PKBM Huda Wan Nur, Perlunya pembinaan dan sosialisasi aktif dalam pembinaan minat belajar bahasa inggris di PKBM Huda Wan Nur dan Perlunya pemberdayaan pola pikir positif kepada guru tentang pentingnya bahasa inggris bagi anak-anak terutama di PKBM Huda Wan Nur.     Langsa is a municipality in Aceh province of Indonesia, with a heterogeneous population consisting of many ethnic groups. Due to this, over the years, the Acehnese language has evolved as a regional language used in daily communication, especially in environments such as schools. The literacy skills of students in Acehnese language will determine its preservation in years to come. Therefore, this study aims to describe the literacy ability of elementary school students from Langsa city in translating texts in Acehnese language. Adapting to the new normal situation, the sampling method was carried out based on the recommended health protocol to randomly select students as the research object.     MPASI merupakan proses transisi dari pemberian susu Ibu menjadi makanan padat. Mitra adalah Ibu PKK Manyak Payed, Aceh Timur. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra sehingga kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan yaitu: Meningkatnya kebutuhan MPASI yang berupa tepung dari bahan organik yang berdaya guna dan memiliki nilai jual dari bahan-bahan yang mudah diperoleh. Belum ada pembinaan dan sosialisasi pemerintah dalam pembinaan kewirausahaan yang berkaitan dengan produksi tepung MPASI berbahan organik dari kacang hijau dan beras merah. Minimnya pengetahuan Ibu PKK Manyak Payed dalam pemanfaatan dan proses berwirausaha terhadap tepung MPASI organik berbahan dasar kacang hijau dan beras merah. Justifikasi solusi atas permasalahan mitra: Pelatihan pembuatan tepung MPASI alami dari kacang hijau dan beras merah organik kepada Ibu PKK Manyak Payed sebagai pemberdayaan kreatif untuk proses berwirausaha secara home industry. Metode pendekatan berupa persiapan, penjelasan, pelatihan dan evaluasi. Hasil adalah kemampuan Ibu PKK untuk memproduksi tepung MPASI serta produk tepung MPASI berbahan dasar beras merah dan kacang hijau organik siap jual.     The Quality of Taxonomy Translation in English Indonesian Latin by Biological Education Students

    Translation of literacy in english, Indonesian and latin has a strategic position in the biological sciences that must be studied with good quality for students so that the development of science. The purpose of this study is to examine the quality of taxonomy translation in English, Indonesian and Latin with regard to biology education. This research is a quantitative-descriptive research. The test method is used to collect data on the ability to translate in biology education learning by using the google form media provided through the biology student WhatsApp group due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of 10 questions with a blend of English, Latin and Indonesian about taxonomy. There are 13 respondents who are ready to answer the test. The test is given for 1 credit which is about 45 minutes as the deadline. The data analysis technique in this study is descriptive quantitative which uses three lines of research activities, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification.The results obtained by respondents find it easier to translate test questions in short sentences. The quality of taxonomy translations related to English, Indonesian and Latin have good quality because from the first session, namely translation into the target language English, 4 of the total questions were obtained with the percentage of success by students in translating well above 50%. Likewise for the results of the translation with the target language Indonesian, the respondents managed to answer all questions well with a percentage above 50%. Here it can be seen that, translating into the target language Indonesian is still easier for respondents to produce because all questions are of high value than translating into the target language English
