Spurious Shear in Weak Lensing with LSST
The complete 10-year survey from the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST)
will image 20,000 square degrees of sky in six filter bands every few
nights, bringing the final survey depth to , with over 4 billion
well measured galaxies. To take full advantage of this unprecedented
statistical power, the systematic errors associated with weak lensing
measurements need to be controlled to a level similar to the statistical
errors.
This work is the first attempt to quantitatively estimate the absolute level
and statistical properties of the systematic errors on weak lensing shear
measurements due to the most important physical effects in the LSST system via
high fidelity ray-tracing simulations. We identify and isolate the different
sources of algorithm-independent, \textit{additive} systematic errors on shear
measurements for LSST and predict their impact on the final cosmic shear
measurements using conventional weak lensing analysis techniques. We find that
the main source of the errors comes from an inability to adequately
characterise the atmospheric point spread function (PSF) due to its high
frequency spatial variation on angular scales smaller than in the
single short exposures, which propagates into a spurious shear correlation
function at the -- level on these scales. With the large
multi-epoch dataset that will be acquired by LSST, the stochastic errors
average out, bringing the final spurious shear correlation function to a level
very close to the statistical errors. Our results imply that the cosmological
constraints from LSST will not be severely limited by these
algorithm-independent, additive systematic effects.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures, accepted by MNRA

The risk of personality adaptation disorders in patients with transplanted internal organs
The article presents the results of a clinical psychological research conducted by means of the Rorschach ink blot projective test. It is shown that along with medical problems concerning good functioning of the transplanted organ, patients who have received βalienβ donor organs face complicated psychological problems. The authors maintain that successful treatment depends on whether patientsβ psychological problems have been identified, whereas unresolved problems may result in psychosomatic disorders. Apart from revealing abnormal and painful conditions, it is essential to provide psychological and psychiatric follow-up in order to facilitate personal adaptation and establish compliance and psychotherapeutic intervention during treatment and rehabilitation.Π ΡΡΠ°ΡΡΠ΅ ΠΎΠ±ΡΡΠΆΠ΄Π°ΡΡΡΡ ΡΠ΅Π·ΡΠ»ΡΡΠ°ΡΡ ΠΊΠ»ΠΈΠ½ΠΈΠΊΠΎ-ΠΏΡΠΈΡ

Testing the Cosmological Constant as a Candidate for Dark Energy
It may be difficult to single out the best model of dark energy on the basis
of the existing and planned cosmological observations, because many different
models can lead to similar observational consequences. However, each particular
model can be studied and either found consistent with observations or ruled
out. In this paper, we concentrate on the possibility to test and rule out the
simplest and by far the most popular of the models of dark energy, the theory
described by general relativity with positive vacuum energy (the cosmological
constant). We evaluate the conditions under which this model could be ruled out
by the future observations made by the Supernova/Acceleration Probe SNAP (both
for supernovae and weak lensing) and by the Planck Surveyor cosmic microwave
background satellite.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, revtex
One-loop corrections to the D3 brane action
We calculate one-loop corrections to the effective Lagrangian for the D3
brane. We perform the gauge-fixing of the kappa-symmetric Born-Infeld D3 brane
action in the flat background using Killing gauge. The linearized supersymmetry
of the gauge-fixed action coincides with that of the N=4 Yang-Mills theory. We
use the helicity amplitude and unitarity technique to calculate the one-loop
amplitudes at order alpha^4. The counterterms and the finite 1-loop corrections
are of the form (dF)^4 and their supersymmetric generalization. This is to be
contrasted with the Born-Infeld action which contains (F)^4 and other terms
which do not depend on derivatives of the vector field strength.Comment: 21 pages, LaTex with Axodraw figures. In the revised version new

Measurement of the analysing power in proton-proton elastic scattering at small angles
The proton analysing power in elastic scattering has been measured
at small angles at COSY-ANKE at 796 MeV and five other beam energies between
1.6 and 2.4 GeV using a polarised proton beam. The asymmetries obtained by
detecting the fast proton in the ANKE forward detector or the slow recoil
proton in a silicon tracking telescope are completely consistent. Although the
analysing power results agree well with the many published data at 796 MeV, and
also with the most recent partial wave solution at this energy, the ANKE data
at the higher energies lie well above the predictions of this solution at small
angles. An updated phase shift analysis that uses the ANKE results together
with the World data leads to a much better description of these new
measurements.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Measurement of the absolute differential cross section of proton-proton elastic scattering at small angles
The differential cross section for proton-proton elastic scattering has been
measured at a beam energy of 1.0 GeV and in 200 MeV steps from 1.6 to 2.8 GeV
for centre-of-mass angles in the range from 12-16 degrees to 25-30 degrees,
depending on the energy. Absolute normalisations of typically 3% were achieved
by studying the energy losses of the circulating beam of the COSY storage ring
as it passed repeatedly through the windowless hydrogen target of the ANKE
magnetic spectrometer. It is shown that the data have a significant impact upon
a partial wave analysis. After extrapolating the differential cross sections to
the forward direction, the results are broadly compatible with the predictions
of forward dispersion relations

Spin tune mapping as a novel tool to probe the spin dynamics in storage rings
Precision experiments, such as the search for electric dipole moments of
charged particles using storage rings, demand for an understanding of the spin
dynamics with unprecedented accuracy. The ultimate aim is to measure the
electric dipole moments with a sensitivity up to 15 orders in magnitude better
than the magnetic dipole moment of the stored particles. This formidable task
requires an understanding of the background to the signal of the electric
dipole from rotations of the spins in the spurious magnetic fields of a storage
ring. One of the observables, especially sensitive to the imperfection magnetic
fields in the ring is the angular orientation of stable spin axis. Up to now,
the stable spin axis has never been determined experimentally, and in addition,
the JEDI collaboration for the first time succeeded to quantify the background
signals that stem from false rotations of the magnetic dipole moments in the
horizontal and longitudinal imperfection magnetic fields of the storage ring.
To this end, we developed a new method based on the spin tune response of a
machine to artificially applied longitudinal magnetic fields. This novel
technique, called \textit{spin tune mapping}, emerges as a very powerful tool
to probe the spin dynamics in storage rings. The technique was experimentally
tested in 2014 at the cooler synchrotron COSY, and for the first time, the
angular orientation of the stable spin axis at two different locations in the
ring has been determined to an unprecedented accuracy of better than
rad.Comment: 32 pages, 15 figures, 7 table
