Sin embargo, en los últimos años ha presentado un déficit en cuanto a sus procesos en poscosecha especialmente en línea de producción y calidad generando inconformidad en el cliente final al recibir un producto que no cumple con las expectativas en cuanto a parámetros de calidad solicitados. La poscosecha en una compañía floricultora, es la que soporta todo el proceso realizado en la finca, especialmente el de cultivo, siendo el filtro final y en donde se debe tener en cuenta la calidad, aprovechamiento del producto en sus longitudes, dando un manejo adecuado desde su recepción hasta tener el producto terminado y posterior despacho. Con este trabajo de sistematización se refleja una de las formas de cómo se pueden realizar mejoras en un proceso determinado, que para este caso se enfocó en la línea de producción de poscosecha de Agrícola El Retiro S.A, obteniendo muy buenos resultados los cuales se ven reflejados claramente en los apartes que componen el presente documento. Todas las mejoras realizadas pueden incrementar los resultados siempre y cuando se tenga como premisa la mejora continua, retroalimentación y seguimiento a los procesos. Ventajas del uso de fachada ventilada en Girardot ( Colombia). Un complemento tecnológico a fachadas modulares industrializadas

El artículo aborda el tema de la vivienda de interés social en el archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina, Colombia. A partir del modelo de vivienda multifamiliar desarrollado por el autor para el Programa Piloto Nacional de Adaptación al Cambio Climático-INAP, Casaclima San Andrés, se realizan una serie de simulaciones para evaluar el comportamiento de dicho modelo en cuanto a flujos de ventilación, temperatura y humedad relativa en su interior, bajo diversas condiciones (ventanas abiertas y cerradas, entre otras). Se concluye que el modelo, que retoma la tecnología de construcción en madera, tradicional en el archipiélago, es una solución que aporta confort térmico a sus habitantes, y reduce el impacto ambiental que generan construcciones en otro tipo de materiales, como el concreto

Estimating aboveground biomass and carbon stocks in periurban Andean secondary forests using very high resolution imagery

Periurban forests are key to offsetting anthropogenic carbon emissions, but they are under constant threat from urbanization. In particular, secondary Neotropical forest types in Andean periurban areas have a high potential to store carbon, but are currently poorly characterized. To address this lack of information, we developed a method to estimate periurban aboveground biomass (AGB)-a proxy for multiple ecosystem services-of secondary Andean forests near Bogotá, Colombia, based on very high resolution (VHR) GeoEye-1, Pleiades-1A imagery and field-measured plot data. Specifically, we tested a series of different pre-processing workflows to derive six vegetation indices that were regressed against in situ estimates of AGB. Overall, the coupling of linear models and the Ratio Vegetation Index produced the most satisfactory results. Atmospheric and topographic correction proved to be key in improving model fit, especially in high aerosol and rugged terrain such as the Andes. Methods and findings provide baseline AGB and carbon stock information for little studied periurban Andean secondary forests. The methodological approach can also be used for integrating limited forest monitoring plot AGB data with very high resolution imagery for cost-effective modelling of ecosystem service provision from forests, monitoring reforestation and forest cover change, and for carbon offset assessments

Characterization of a novel Lactobacillus species closely related to Lactobacillus johnsonii using a combination of molecular and comparative genomics methods

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) constitutes a powerful tool for identification and characterization of bacterial strains. In this study we have applied this technique for the characterization of a number of <it>Lactobacillus </it>strains isolated from the intestinal content of rats fed with a diet supplemented with sorbitol.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene, <it>recA</it>, <it>pheS</it>, <it>pyrG </it>and <it>tuf </it>sequences identified five bacterial strains isolated from the intestinal content of rats as belonging to the recently described <it>Lactobacillus taiwanensis </it>species. DNA-DNA hybridization experiments confirmed that these five strains are distinct but closely related to <it>Lactobacillus johnsonii </it>and <it>Lactobacillus gasseri</it>. A whole genome DNA microarray designed for the probiotic <it>L. johnsonii </it>strain NCC533 was used for CGH analysis of <it>L. johnsonii </it>ATCC 33200^T, <it>L. johnsonii </it>BL261, <it>L. gasseri </it>ATCC 33323^Tand <it>L. taiwanensis </it>BL263. In these experiments, the fluorescence ratio distributions obtained with <it>L. taiwanensis </it>and <it>L. gasseri </it>showed characteristic inter-species profiles. The percentage of conserved <it>L. johnsonii </it>NCC533 genes was about 83% in the <it>L. johnsonii </it>strains comparisons and decreased to 51% and 47% for <it>L. taiwanensis </it>and <it>L. gasseri</it>, respectively. These results confirmed the separate status of <it>L. taiwanensis </it>from <it>L. johnsonii </it>at the level of species, and also that <it>L. taiwanensis </it>is closer to <it>L. johnsonii </it>than <it>L. gasseri </it>is to <it>L. johnsonii</it>.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Conventional taxonomic analyses and microarray-based CGH analysis have been used for the identification and characterization of the newly species <it>L. taiwanensis</it>. The microarray-based CGH technology has been shown as a remarkable tool for the identification and fine discrimination between phylogenetically close species, and additionally provided insight into the adaptation of the strain <it>L. taiwanensis </it>BL263 to its ecological niche.</p

Importance of Ecological Factors and Colony Handling for Optimizing Health Status of Apiaries in Mediterranean Ecosystems

We analyzed six apiaries in several natural environments with a Mediterranean ecosystem in Madrid, central Spain, in order to understand how landscape and management characteristics may influence apiary health and bee production in the long term. We focused on five criteria (habitat quality, landscape heterogeneity, climate, management and health), as well as 30 subcriteria, and we used the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to rank them according to relevance. Habitat quality proved to have the highest relevance, followed by beehive management. Within habitat quality, the following subcriteria proved to be most relevant: orographic diversity, elevation range and important plant species located 1.5 km from the apiary. The most important subcriteria under beehive management were honey production, movement of the apiary to a location with a higher altitude and wax renewal. Temperature was the most important subcriterion under climate, while pathogen and Varroa loads were the most significant under health. Two of the six apiaries showed the best values in the AHP analysis and showed annual honey production of 70 and 28 kg/colony. This high productivity was due primarily to high elevation range and high orographic diversity, which favored high habitat quality. In addition, one of these apiaries showed the best value for beehive management, while the other showed the best value for health, reflected in the low pathogen load and low average number of viruses. These results highlight the importance of environmental factors and good sanitary practices to maximize apiary health and honey productivity

La biblioteca escolar un importante recurso lúdico pedagógico

La biblioteca escolar surge como una necesidad de actualizar los espacios tecnológicos, pedagógicos, y de trabajo en pro del fomento a la lectura y escritura teniendo en cuenta las edades de los estudiantes, las necesidades pedagógicas y los intereses de la comunidad. Es importante involucrar a los padres de familia, entes gubernamentales, docentes y todos aquellos interesados en los procesos lectores de los nin@s de la IED Fidel Cano. A través de este proyecto se pretende implementar actividades que permitan dar a conocer a la comunidad educativa la importancia del buen uso de la biblioteca escolar como mediateca de material bibliográfico y de las Tics; utilizando la lúdica como herramienta de aprendizaje y quehacer pedagógico estimulando la creatividad, el goce y la identidad cultural
