Finally, the structure of relations among the authors was obtained through Net Draw

The paper presents the dynamics of the creation, development and dissemination of the strategic management scientific community network during knowledge's creation and communication through the Strategic Management Journal from 1980 to 2009. The paper exposes the evolution of the participant countries' position within the network structure. The different stages the network goes through, the vertices' transformation into nodes, and hubs are also presented, and finally, the influence of the country in the core of the network in the development of the countries in the semi-periphery and periphery of the network through the cooperation for publication of articles in SMJ

The aim of this study is to explore the scaling relationship between degree centrality and citation-based performance of countries articles on Strategic Management. The results show a scaling relationship between Impact and degree centrality with scaling exponent of 1,28 ± 0,07. This result suggests that the Impact of a countries’ articles on strategic management increases non-linearly with degree centrality 21,28 o 2,42 times when the country doubles its degree centrality. The results suggest that the increase of the participation of countries in international collaborative networks on strategic management research is a positive strategy to foster the international visibility and impact on strategic management research.

Does the Centrality Degree of Latin American Countries Predict their Citation Based Performance on Management Research?

The aim of this paper is to determine if the centrality degree and density of Latin-American and Caribbean countries (LA-C) predicts their citation based performance in academic research in the management discipline. For our analysis, we use publication data of the Social Science Citation Index in the field of ‘‘Management’’ between 1988 and 2013, extracted from ISI Web of Science. The resulting database contained 1,079 articles reflecting the contributions of 19 LA-C countries. For the quantitative analysis we used a combination of Bibliometric and Social Networks Analysis techniques. To test the hypothesis a Multiple Linear Regression model with bootstrapping was run. The results show that the centrality degree of LA-C countries is positively associated to their citation based performance. The centrality degree of LA-C countries predicts a 54% of variance in their citation based research performance within the management discipline

Revealing the impact on Cuba-US collaboration in health sciences: inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism

ABSTRACTObjective: This study explores the intricate interplay between Cuba's placement on the state sponsors of terrorism list and its impact on scientific collaboration with the United States, specifically in Health Sciences. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using a robust Poisson regression framework, the investigation examines collaboration dynamics in two scenarios: when Cuba is designated a terrorism sponsor (group 1) and when it's not (group 0). Results/Discussion: Outcomes reveal the pivotal role of Cuba's terrorism listing in shaping collaboration between nations. A negative coefficient for "Inclusion" indicates a 69% reduction in expected joint scientific articles when Cuba is listed as a terrorism sponsor. Conclusions: These findings highlight the interplay between geopolitical factors and scientific partnerships, with implications for policymakers and researchers. They underscore the need to consider broader consequences of such designations. Originality/Value: By shedding light on the complex convergence of science and diplomacy, this research underscores the urgency of fostering productive scientific discourse. It propels Health Sciences towards progress, even in a world of diplomatic shifts. These insights guide collaborative efforts in Health Sciences, emphasizing the importance of navigating challenging geopolitical landscapes

Research evaluation of author’s citation-based performance through the relative author superiority index

Abstract The aim of this paper is to further explore the recent conversation about the indicators for research evaluation through citation-based indexes. It evaluates the Cuban Biotechnology; Applied Microbiology researchers’ citation-based performance, according to their scientific production in journals of the ISI Web of Science database through the Relative Author Superiority Index. The methodology comprises six steps: (1) preparation of the data; (2) calculation of the Percentile Rank Index for each of the papers; (3) calculation of the Author Superiority Index for each of the authors; (4) Calculation of the Relative Author Superiority Index; (5) Comparison of the Author Superiority Index of each author to their Hirsch (H) and G citation indexes and (6) individual or group evaluation of the citation-based performance. The findings suggest that the group of Cuban researchers in biotechnology achieved a high citation-based performance within the analyzed period. The results show the effectiveness of this index to assess the citation performance of individual or group researchers when the impact factor of the researcher or group under evaluation is not high. In addition, the Relative Author Superiority index could be complementary to other previous indicators such as H-index, G-index or citation counts as it overcomes the limitations of the age of publications, length of the author’s career, and the self-citation problem that are present in other indicators

The most outstanding themes of investigation about management within the articles published in Folletos Gerenciales Journal from 1997 to 2009, inclusive, are presented. It is also presented the dynamics of knowledge dissemination about management techniques in Cuba, and the evolution of the knowledge’s networks through the evolution of internal cohesion and centrality degree of the topics published in the articles. To achieve these results the Co-Word Analysis combined with Social Network techniques were used. The paper is addressed to students, researchers and professors of information sciences and management
