Pose-Normalized Image Generation for Person Re-identification
Person Re-identification (re-id) faces two major challenges: the lack of
cross-view paired training data and learning discriminative identity-sensitive
and view-invariant features in the presence of large pose variations. In this
work, we address both problems by proposing a novel deep person image
generation model for synthesizing realistic person images conditional on the
pose. The model is based on a generative adversarial network (GAN) designed
specifically for pose normalization in re-id, thus termed pose-normalization
GAN (PN-GAN). With the synthesized images, we can learn a new type of deep
re-id feature free of the influence of pose variations. We show that this
feature is strong on its own and complementary to features learned with the
original images. Importantly, under the transfer learning setting, we show that
our model generalizes well to any new re-id dataset without the need for
collecting any training data for model fine-tuning. The model thus has the
potential to make re-id model truly scalable.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
Formal integration archetypes in ambidextrous organizations

The final version is available from Wiley via the DOI in this recordResearch suggests that organizational ambidexterity, an organization's capacity to pursue both exploratory and exploitative activities, is critical to firm innovation and performance. Extant research primarily emphasizes several firm‐level informal integration mechanisms, such as creating a common vision and relying on social integration, for integrating structurally ambidextrous units. Research has largely ignored, however, the formal mechanisms by which organizations have integrated such units. In this inductive study, using archival and interview data from organizations in Silicon Valley, we address this gap by identifying the formal integration archetypes that enable core business units to collaborate with new venture units to incubate new businesses. The four integration archetypes that enable collaboration vary along two key dimensions: who initiates new ventures and when collaboration is solicited. We identify formal administrative and resource mechanisms that enable such collaboration. We combine the disparate literatures of temporal and spatial separation of ambidextrous structures, and demonstrate how these must be combined at the business unit and new venture levels of analysis to achieve integration. The practical contribution of this study lies in identifying suitable contexts in which each of these archetypes can be utilized by practitioners for reintegrating new venture projects developed in separate structures
Controlling a cargo ship without human experience based on deep Q-network
Human experience is regarded as an indispensable part of artificial intelligence in the process of controlling or decision making for autonomous cargo ships. In this paper, a novel Deep Q-Network-based (DQN) approach is proposed, which performs satisfactorily in controlling a cargo ship automatically without any human experience. At the very beginning, we use the model of KRISO Very Large Crude Carrier (KVLCC2) to describe a cargo ship. To manipulate this ship has to conquer great inertia and relatively insufficient driving force. Subsequently, customary waterways, regulations, conventions are described with Artificial Potential Field and value-functions in DQN. Based on this, the artificial intelligence of planning and controlling a cargo ship can be obtained by undertaking sufficient training, which can control the ship directly, while avoiding collisions, keeping its position in the middle of the route as much as possible. In simulation experiments, it is demonstrated that such an approach performs better than manual works and other traditional methods in most conditions, which makes the proposed method a promising solution in improving the autonomy level of cargo ships
Extension of non-minimal derivative coupling theory and Hawking radiation in black-hole spacetime
We study the greybody factor and Hawking radiation with a non-minimal
derivative coupling between the scalar field and the curvature in the
background of the slowly rotating Kerr-Newman black hole.
Our results show that both the absorption probability and luminosity of
Hawking radiation of the scalar field increase with the coupling.
Moreover, we also find that for the weak coupling , the
absorption probability and luminosity of Hawking radiation decrease when the
black hole's Hawking temperature decreases; while for stronger coupling
, the absorption probability and luminosity of Hawking radiation
increase on the contrary when the black hole's Hawking temperature decreases.
This feature is similar to the Hawking radiation in a -dimensional static

Supersymmetric Intersecting Branes on the Waves
We construct a general family of supersymmetric solutions in time- and
space-dependent wave backgrounds in general supergravity theories describing
single and intersecting p-branes embedded into time-dependent dilaton-gravity
plane waves of an arbitrary (isotropic) profile, with the brane world-volume
aligned parallel to the propagation direction of the wave. We discuss how many
degrees of freedom we have in the solutions. We also propose that these
solutions can be used to describe higher-dimensional time-dependent "black

CXCL12 overexpression and secretion by aging fibroblasts enhance human prostate epithelial proliferation in vitro
The direct relationship between the aging process and the incidence and prevalence of both benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PCa) implies that certain risk factors associated with the development of both diseases increase with the aging process. In particular, both diseases share an overly proliferative phenotype, suggesting that mechanisms that normally act to suppress cellular proliferation are disrupted or rendered dysfunctional as a consequence of the aging process. We propose that one such mechanism involves changes in the prostate microenvironment, which ‘evolves’ during the aging process and disrupts paracrine interactions between epithelial and associated stromal fibroblasts. We show that stromal fibroblasts isolated from the prostates of men 63–81 years of age at the time of surgery express and secrete higher levels of the CXCL12 chemokine compared with those isolated from younger men, and stimulate CXCR4-mediated signaling pathways that induce cellular proliferation.
