Skin friction measuring device for aircraft

    Get PDF
A skin friction measuring device for measuring the resistance of an aerodynamic surface to an airstream is described. It was adapted to be mounted on an aircraft and is characterized by a friction plate adapted to be disposed in a flush relationship with the external surface of the aircraft and be displaced in response to skin friction drag. As an airstream is caused to flow over the surface, a potentiometer connected to the plate for providing an electrical output indicates the magnitude of the drag

Nonlinear dynamical systems and classical orthogonal polynomials

It is demonstrated that nonlinear dynamical systems with analytic nonlinearities can be brought down to the abstract Schr\"odinger equation in Hilbert space with boson Hamiltonian. The Fourier coefficients of the expansion of solutions to the Schr\"odinger equation in the particular occupation number representation are expressed by means of the classical orthogonal polynomials. The introduced formalism amounts a generalization of the classical methods for linearization of nonlinear differential equations such as the Carleman embedding technique and Koopman approach.Comment: 21 pages latex, uses revte

The papers collected in this volume were presented at the Symposium on Mathematical Optimization Techniques held in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, California, on October 18-20, 1960. The objective of the symposium was to bring together, for the purpose of mutual education, mathematicians, scientists, and engineers interested in modern optimization techniques. Some 250 persons attended. The techniques discussed included recent developments in linear, integer, convex, and dynamic programming as well as the variational processes surrounding optimal guidance, flight trajectories, statistical decisions, structural configurations, and adaptive control systems. The symposium was sponsored jointly by the University of California, with assistance from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and The RAND Corporation, through Air Force Project RAND
