Luces y sombras del libro electrónico

¿Por qué el libro electrónico no ha conseguido el éxito de otras fórmulas digitales de consumo de cultura y ocio, como la música, el cine o los videojuegos? Después de diez años, la profecía realizada por el mundo editorial en la Feria del Libro de Fráncfort en 2008, de superación del libro digital al libro papel, ni se ha cumplido ni se ha acercado a la predicción. Y lo que es peor, las razones no están muy claras. El libro digital habita en un mundo confuso de intereses encontrados que ofrecen explicaciones diversas y pocas veces rigurosas. Este trabajo intenta aportar algo de luz al problema, procurando delimitar, jerarquizar y desentrañar las causas reales que concurren. Para esto, se analiza la evolución del libro electrónico, sus ventajas e inconvenientes y la participación de los diferentes agentes. Como conclusión, las principales causas que impiden un mayor desarrollo del mercado de libros electrónicos son la poca iniciativa de las editoriales, las limitaciones que tienen los libros electrónicos, la incertidumbre provocada por la falta de apoyos institucionales y la piratería.Per què el llibre electrònic no ha aconseguit l'èxit d'altres fórmules digitals de consum de cultura i oci, com la música, el cinema o els videojocs? I el que és pitjor, les raons no estan molt clares. El llibre digital habita en un món confús d'interessos oposats que ofereixen explicacions diverses i poques vegades rigoroses. Aquest treball intenta aportar una mica de llum al problema, procurant delimitar, jerarquitzar i desentranyar les causes reals que concorren. Per això, s'analitza l'evolució del llibre electrònic, els seus avantatges i inconvenients i la participació dels diferents agents. Com a conclusió, les principals causes que impedeixen un major desenvolupament del mercat de llibres electrònics són la poca iniciativa de les editorials, les limitacions que tenen els llibres electrònics, la incertesa provocada per la falta de suports institucionals i la pirateria.Why the electronic book has not achieved the success of other digital formulas of culture and leisure consumption, such as music, cinema or video games? After ten years, the prophecy made by the publishing world at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2008, of overcoming the digital book to the paper book, has neither been fulfilled nor has it come close to prediction. And what is worse, the reasons are not very clear. The digital book inhabits a confusing world of mixed interests that offer diverse and rarely rigorous explanations. This work tries to contribute some light to the problem, trying to define, rank and unravel the real causes that concur. For this, the evolution of the electronic book, its advantages and disadvantages and the participation of the different agents are analyzed. In conclusion, the main causes that prevent further development of the e-book market are the lack of initiative of publishers, the limitations of electronic books, the uncertainty caused by the lack of institutional support and piracy

Characteristics of apposition in The Great Gatsby

The aim of this paper is to study the syntactic and semantic characteristics of apposition as exemplified in The Great Gatsby, a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920s, which, due to its narrator's tendency to poeticize reality and to detailed description, provides a good many examples of the use of apposition in all its varieties. In the pages that follow I first establish a set of definite criteria which define apposition and then I go on to illustrate these in the appositions found in the novel mentioned above. Finally I offer a pragmatic and stylistic explanation for the author's frequent use of appositions

Towards a natural classification of the subtribe Philonthina (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylinini): a phylogenetic analysis of the Neotropical genera

Philonthina, the largest subtribe of the rove beetle tribe Staphylinini, is a hyperdiverse group in the Neotropical Region, accounting for about half of the genera of the subtribe. Despite such diversity, Neotropical Philonthina have never been analysed phylogenetically, deterring formulation of a modern classification of the Staphylinini. A cladistic analysis of Neotropical Philonthina was performed based on 110 morphological characters and 77 terminal taxa. Representatives of Philonthina from other regions and other main lineages of Staphylinini, Arrowinini and Platyprosopini were included to test their relationships with Neotropical Philonthina. The major results are the monophyly of 11 of the 17 endemic Neotropical genera of Philonthina, the placement of Holisus Erichson (Hyptiomina) into this clade showing a sister group relationship to myrmecophile genera, and the position of Erichsonius Fauvel outside of Philonthina within Staphylinini. Six of the current seven species of Endeius Coiffait & Saiz group with Neotropical species of Philonthus Stephens. The separation of Gondwana about 65 my and major landscape modifications in the vast interior of northern South America during the past 25 my is proposed to explain the evolution of the endemic Neotropical genera of Philonthina. The following taxonomic changes are proposed: Erichsonius Fauvel, 1874 now placed as incertae sedis in Staphylinini; Endeius Coiffait & Saiz, 1968, n.syn. of Philonthus Stephens, 1929 and Endeius nitidipennis (Solier, 1849) placed as incertae sedis in Philonthina. The following new combinations are proposed: Philonthus franzi (Saiz, 1971), comb.n., Philonthus loensis (Coiffait & Saiz, 1968), comb.n., Philonthus lugubris (Saiz, 1971), comb.n., Philonthus ovaliceps (Coiffait, 1981), comb.n., Philonthus punctipennis (Solier, 1849), comb.res. and Philonthus subpunctipennis (Coiffait & Saiz, 1968), comb.n. Systematics and phylogeny of the Neotropical genera Pescolinus Sharp and Neopescolinus gen.n. (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae)

A systematic revision and a phylogenetic analysis of the closely related Neotropical generaPescolinus Sharp, 1885 and Neopescolinus gen.n. (Staphylininae: Staphylinini: Philonthina) are presented. Both genera are revised using characters of external morphology and male and female genitalia, with keys for identification, diagnoses, descriptions, illustrations, a phylogenetic analysis, and a distributional map. Eight valid species are recognized for Pescolinus: P. palmatus Sharp, P. schmidti Bierig and six new species, P. aeneus, P. cartagensis, P. costaricensis, P. montanus, P. moyae and P. varablanquesis. Neopescolinus gen.n., from Costa Rica, is described for one new species, N. nevermanni. Lectotype is designated for Pescolinus palmatus Sharp. The cladistic analysis shows Pescolinus as a monophyletic genus which forms together with Linoderus Sharp, Odontolinus Sharp and Neopescolinus a well supported clade that belongs to a natural group of Neotropical Philonthina.Fil: Chani Posse, Mariana Raquel.
