This work, mainly based on literature sources, studies the variability of the tall Mediterranean amphibious swards characterized by Eryngium corniculatum in the Iberian Peninsula. Calidad de la canal de corderos (ternasco y lechal) de la raza autóctona andaluza churra lebrijana
En la raza Churra Lebrijana (catalogada como “de protección oficial”) se ha estudiado
por primera vez el potencial productivo de corderos lechales frente a ternascos (el peso vivo de
estos animales fue de 11,38 y 18,48 Kg respectivamente). Para ello se estudiaron en 8 corderos
machos de cada tipo las características de sus canales en relación a parámetros de pH, color,
rendimiento comercial, medidas zoometricas, engrasamiento y despiece. Del trabajo se deduce
que los ternascos ofrecen unas mejores características cárnicas que los lechales (tipo que es el que
más se comercializa actualmente) por lo que es interesante su comercialización en este tipo
comercial.In Churra Lebrijana breed (catalogued as "of official protection") the productive
potential of suckling lambs has studied for the first time front to light lamb (the alive weight of
these animals was of 11.38 and 18.48 kg respectively). For it the characteristics of their carcasses
in relation to parameters of pH studied in 8 male lambs of each type, color, commercial yield,
zoometric measures, fattening and quartering. Of the work it is deduced that the light lambs offer
better meat characteristics than the suckling lambs (type that are the one that is commercialized
more at the moment) reason why its commercialization in this commercial type is interesting.INIA RZ03-01
Machine milking parameters for Murciano-Granadina breed goats
[EN] In dairy ruminants, the combination of milking parameters must ensure good milking performance without harming udder conditions. Commonly, milking conditions for goats are established without having checked the admissible limits for optimal and fast milking. The aim of this study was to establish a limit combination of machine milking parameters that improves machine milking performance without altering milkability or udder status. To this end, we studied the effect of 2 combinations (42 kPa, 120 cpm, 60% vs. 44 kPa, 120 cpm, 60% in terms of kilopascals of vacuum level, cycles per minute of pulsator rate, and percentage of pulsator ratio, respectively) on milk production and composition, milk fractioning during milking, SCC, teat tissue thickness variation after milking, and the milk emission kinetics parameters throughout 1 lactation period (6 rno). The 42 and 44 kPa measured at the vacuum gauge level became average values of 37.5 and 39.3 kPa, respectively, measured at the teat sphincter level during milking. Milk flow significantly increased and total milking time decreased 25 s with the elevation of the vacuum level from 42 to 44 kPa without any adverse effect on milk fractioning at milking. However, the use of 44 kPa also showed an increase in tissue thickness above 5%, and we observed a tendency of average conductivity of milk to increase, although without any adverse effect on SCC. It seems that 44 kPa, 120 cpm, 60% is a possible limit combination of parameters to improve milking performance without altering milkability or udder conditions. Variability of Eryngium corniculatum of communities in the Iberian Peninsule

Effect of extruded whole soybean dietary concentrate on conjugated linoleic acid concentration in milk in Jersey cows under pasture conditions
Contradictory results has been found on the effects of soybean supplementation and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content in milk on feeding systems based on fresh forage The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of a dietary supplement with different quantities of extruded whole soybean on the production and composition of milk, and CLA concentration or their isomers in Jersey cows under pasture conditions. Twenty-one Jersey cows were randomly assigned into 3 groups of 7 animals each. The cows were supplemented with a dietary concentrate (5 kg d-1), and each group received one of the three next treatments: control without soybean (0-SB), with extruded whole soybean at 0.5 kg d-1 (0.5-SB) or at 1 kg d-1 (1-SB). The basic diet was a pasture composed of Lolium perenne (70%), Trifolium repens (25%) and other species. The duration of the study was 75 d. Milk production (p = 0.706) and protein production (p = 0.926) were not affected by treatments. Fat (p = 0.015) and protein (p = 0.045) content as well as fat production (p = 0.010) were lower in the 1-SB group. There was no effect of the inclusion of extruded soybean on total CLA content (p = 0.290) or the content of cis-9, trans-11 (p = 0.582), trans-10, cis-12 (p = 0.136) and cis-10, cis-12 (p = 0.288) isomers. However, concentrations of all isomers were affected by the nutritional quality of the pasture, with low values observed at greater maturity stages of pasture
Lipid-modified oligonucleotide conjugates: Insights into gene silencing, interaction with model membranes and cellular uptake mechanisms
The ability of oligonucleotides to silence specific genes or inhibit the biological activity of specific proteins has generated great interest in their use as research tools and therapeutic agents. Unfortunately, their biological applications meet the limitation of their poor cellular accessibility. Developing an appropriate delivery system for oligonucleotides is essential to achieve their efficient cellular uptake. In the present work a series of phosphorothioate lipid–oligonucleotide hybrids were synthesized introducing covalently single or double lipid tails at both 3′- and 5′-termini of an antisense oligonucleotide. Gene transfections in cultured cells showed antisense luciferase inhibition without the use of a transfecting agent for conjugates modified with the double-lipid tail at 5′-termini. The effect of the double lipid-tailed modification was further studied in detail in several model membrane systems as well as in cellular uptake experiments. During these studies the spontaneous formation of self-assembled microstructures is clearly observed. Lipidation allowed the efficient incorporation of the oligonucleotide in HeLa cells by a macropinocytosis mechanism without causing cytotoxicity in cells or altering the binding properties of the oligonucleotide conjugates. In addition, both single- and double-tailed compounds showed a similar behavior in lipid model membranes, making them useful in nucleotide-based technologies
