Semi-Wild Population of Kulans in the Bukhara Breeding Centre and Their Co-Habitation with Przewalski’s Horses
Asiatic wild asses and Przewalski\u27s horses initially inhabited steppe, semi-desert and desert areas, but Przewalski\u27s horses became extinct in the wild, and kulans are under threat of disappearance. The Bukhara Breeding Centre (Uzbekistan) was created in 1976 for conservation and reintroduction of wild ungulate species. In 1977-1978, five kulans (two males and three females) from Barsa-Kelmes Island on the Aral lake were introduced to the reserve. The group increased to 25-30 animals in 1995-1998, when five Przewalski\u27s horses from Moscow and St. Petersburg zoos were introduced to the same territory. We analyzed the home ranges, preferred habitats and social interactions of these closely related species during 1995-1999 by season and group composition. Horses and kulans each formed a reproductive group and a secondary bachelor group. The home range of the secondary group in both species was larger then that of the reproductive group and seemed to be less dependent on watering places. Kulans and Przewalski\u27s horses demonstrated different strategies of habitat use. They can share one area without serious conflicts, avoiding competition by the temporal differentiation in the usage of key sites
Experience in the surgical management of children with complicated crohn's disease
Objective: To present experience in pre-surgical diagnosis, selection of surgical tactics and volume of intervention in different variants of gastrointestinal tract lesions and disease activity.
Materials and methods: We undertook cross-sectional, retrospective-prospective study of 64 children who underwent surgery due to complicated CD. We analyzed CD activity via PCDAI, medications used, inflammation localization, and changes in mass-growth parameters at pre-surgery stage.
Results: Three patients from the group of 44 children with two-stage surgical treatment later showed inefficacy of GEBD in post-operative period. The disease progression was revealed and, therefore, subtotal colectomy was required. Three children had secondary adhesion of surgical wounds by means of active immunosuppressive therapy at preoperative period, and five patients developed suture sinuses at post-operative period. Early adhesive intestinal obstruction was revealed in 3 (4.7%) cases, and they required re-surgery.
Conclusions: Personalized approach to the surgical treatment of children with complicated CD has shown its efficacy due to the small percentage of postoperative complications with re-surgery. There was significant improvement in mass-growth parameters, recovery of albumin levels, and anemia decrease in 96.9% of cases in the long-term postoperative period (6 months or more)
Awareness analysis of mothers of children under one year old

A Postulate for Tiger Recovery: The Case of the Caspian Tiger
Recent genetic analysis has shown that the extinct Caspian Tiger (P. t. virgata) and the living Amur Tigers (P. t. altaica) of the Russian Far East are actually taxonomically synonymous and that Caspian and Amur groups historically formed a single population, only becoming separated within the last 200 years by human agency. A major conservation implication of this finding is that tigers of Amur stock might be reintroduced, not only back into the Koreas and China as is now proposed, but also through vast areas of Central Asia where the Caspian tiger once lived. However, under the current tiger conservation framework the 12 “Caspian Tiger States” are not fully involved in conservation planning. Equal recognition as “Tiger Range States” should be given to the countries where the Caspian tiger once lived and their involvement in tiger conservation planning encouraged. Today, preliminary ecological surveys show that some sparsely populated areas of Central Asia preserve natural habitat suitable for tigers. In depth assessments should be completed in these and other areas of the Caspian range to evaluate the possibility of tiger reintroductions. Because tigers are a charismatic umbrella species, both ecologically and politically, reintroduction to these landscapes would provide an effective conservation framework for the protection of many species in addition to tigers. And for today’s Amur Tigers this added range will provide a buffer against further loss of genetic diversity, one which will maintain that diversity in the face of selective pressures that can only be experienced in the wild

The Features of Morphology and Hydrological Regime of Lakes in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District
This paper presents the results of cartographic and archive data on morphology and regime of several lakes in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district. The hydrological structure of the district is not studied properly because of the severe climate and marshiness in the area, which restrains reclamations of the lakes. In this research we have calculated morphometrical index for 16 lakes located in the catchment of the rivers Vyngapur, Tatlyakhayaha, Pyakpur in the interfluves of the Messoyakha and Shchuchya rivers. We have come to the conclusion that lake basin genesis, its morphometry, hydrological regime features depend on natural factors such as rock composition, flat relief, permafrost, excessive humidity, big number of rivers and wetlands. All the lakes studied in Yamal-Nenets autonomous district have been classified according to the surface area and index of lake oblongness
