Edoardo Benvenuto Prize. Collection of papers

The promotion of studies and research on the science and art of building in their historical development constitutes the objective that the Edoardo Benvenuto Association has set itself, since its establishment, in order to honor the memory of Edoardo Benvenuto (1940-1998). The Association in recent years has achieved interesting results by developing various activities such as: organization of national and international meetings, conferences, study days; collaborations with national and foreign research institutions; promotion of the editorial series “Between Mechanics and Architecture"; activation of the portal Bibliotheca Mechanica Architectonica, first “open source” digitized library dedicated to historical research on mechanical and architectural texts. But perhaps the most qualifying initiative was the institution of the Edoardo Benvenuto Prize, arrived in 2019 in its twelfth edition, reserved for young researchers in the field of historical studies on science and the art of building. The awarding of the Prize takes place after an in-depth examination of the texts received by the Association by an international commission of experts. The purpose of this book is to collect and present the most recent studies and publications produced by the winners of the various editions of the Edoardo Benvenuto Prize

Reconstrucción de la historia tectonotermal del Complejo Huaytapallana mediante geocronología de U-Pb en minerales accesorios

Examina la evolución tectonotermal de un segmento clave del basamento metasedimentario de la Cordillera Oriental del Perú (el Complejo Huaytapallana) y se demuestra que ha experimentado un evento orogénico de alto grado no antes documentado, ocurrido hace 260 Ma (Pérmico medio), basado en dataciones de U-Pb y Th-Pb en monacitas provenientes de paragneises, y dataciones U-Pb en anillos de recrecimiento de zircones encontrados en el leucosoma, consistente con el crecimiento de rutilo metamórfico en los 255 Ma en las unidades de bajo grado. La información de U-Pb en apatitos (260 a 230 Ma) en todas las unidades es consistente con el enfriamiento a partir del pico de metamorfismo en los 260 Ma. La geocronología de U-Pb en zircones de los plutones pre-tectónicos dio edades que varían entre los 302 Ma a los 260 Ma. Esta información geocronológica es complementada con datos de edades U-Pb en zircones de otros segmentos a lo largo de la Cordillera Oriental del Perú.Tesi

Caracterización litogeoquímica y análisis correlacional de los intrusivos de las superunidades de Yarabamba y Challaviento en el sur del Perú

The constituents of superunits Yarabamba and Challaviento in southern Peru, according to its composition of major elements, minor and trace and graphing various intrusive rocks geochemical diagrams show that both superunits have a degree of evolution by fractional crystallization They are sub-alkaline nature and high K calc-alkaline seriesThe rocks are both superunits metaluminous nature. The contents of Sr and Rb indicate a strong assimilation and differentiation of magmas. The enrichment of LILE (<100) elements and an impoverishment of less HFSE elements 10, negative anomalies of Nb and positive anomalies of Th, Ce, indicate that both groups are related to intrusive tectonic plate subduction context. The chemical content of the SuperDrive Yarabamba and Challaviento Ce / and Ga / Al and Y, Y + Nb and Rb and Nb are due to contamination during crustal thickening during the Cretaceous-Neogene tectonic setting and is the Volcanic Arc granitoids (GAV).Las rocas intrusivas constituyentes de las Superunidades de Yarabamba y Challaviento en el sur del Perú, de acuerdo a su composición de elementos mayores, menores y trazas y su graficación en los diversos diagramas geoquímicos nos muestran que ambas Superunidades presentan un grado de evolución por cristalización fraccionada, son de naturaleza subalcalina y de la serie calcoalcalino de alto K.Las rocas de ambas Superunidades son de naturaleza metaluminosas. Los contenidos de Sr y Rb nos indican una fuerte asimilación y diferenciación de los magmas. El enriquecimiento de los elementos LILE (<100) y un empobrecimiento de elementos HFSE menor de 10, anomalías negativas de Nb y anomalías positivas de Th, Ce, nos indican que ambos grupos de intrusivos están relacionados a un marco tectónico de subducción de placas. Los contenidos químicos de la Superunidad Yarabamba y Challaviento Ce/y, Ga/Al e Y, Y+Nb y Rb y Nb se deban a la contaminación durante el engrosamiento de la corteza terrestre durante el Cretáceo-Neógeno y su ambiente tectónico es de los Granitoides de Arco Volcánico (GAV)

In vitro recapitulation of the site-specific editing (to wild-type) of mutant IDS mRNA transcripts, and the characterization of IDS protein translated from the edited mRNAs

The transfer of genomic information into the primary RNA sequence can be altered by RNA editing. We have previously shown that genomic variants can be RNA-edited to wild-type. The presence of distinct “edited” iduronate 2-sulfatase (IDS) mRNA transcripts ex vivo evidenced the correction of a nonsense and frameshift variant, respectively, in three unrelated Hunter syndrome patients. This phenomenon was confirmed in various patient samples by a variety of techniques, and was quantified by single-nucleotide primer extension. Western blotting also confirmed the presence of IDS protein similar in size to the wild-type. Since preliminary experimental evidence suggested that the “corrected” IDS proteins produced by the patients were similar in molecular weight and net charge to their wild-type counterparts, an in vitro system employing different cell types was established to recapitulate the site-specific editing of IDS RNA (uridine to cytidine conversion and uridine deletion), and to confirm the findings previously observed ex vivo in the three patients. In addition, confocal microscopy and flow cytometry analyses demonstrated the expression and lysosomal localization in HEK293 cells of GFP-labeled proteins translated from edited IDS mRNAs. Confocal high-content analysis of the two patients’ cells expressing wild-type or mutated IDS confirmed lysosomal localization and showed no accumulation in the Golgi or early endosomes

The free license codes as decision support system (DSS) for the emergency planning to simulate radioactive releases in case of accidents in the new generation energy plants

The radiological risk is related to a wide range of activities, beginning with the medical and military ones and including those connected to the industrial and research activities such as nuclear fusion. A valid tool to predict the consequences of the accidents and reduce the risk is represented by computing systems that allow modeling the evolution of a possible release of radioactive materials over time and space. In addition to proprietary codes there are free license codes, like Hot-Spot, that allow providing a set of tools to simulate diffusion in case of accidents involving radioactive materials and analyze the safety and security of the facilities in which the radioactive material is manipulated. The case studies scenario’s consists in two simulations accidents scenario the first to biomass plant and the second at nuclear fission plant. The simulation of the radioactive contamination have been conducted with the code HOT SPOT, a free license code. The results of the simulation and data discussion will be presented in this work by the authors

Metamorfismo de contacto y mineralización metálica en Lunahuaná, Cañete

The mean metamorphism at Quebrada Totorita, Lunahuaná, is “Contact Metamorphism”-type, according to the fieldwork, characterization of geological units and supported with thin sections petrography. A strong hydrothermal alteration of biotite was recognized associated to the metamorphism, although with very localized extension, which suggest a probable metallic occurrence of Porphyry Copper-Skarn.Key words: El metamorfismo en el área Quebrada Totorita-Lunahuaná es principalmente de tipo “Metamorfismo de Contacto”, mostrado en el trabajo de campo, caracterización de unidades geológicas, y afianzado con la petrografía de secciones delgadas. Relacionado a este, se reconoce una zona de fuerte alteración hidrotermal por la presencia de biotita, pero de extensión muy local, lo cual sugiere una posible ocurrencia metálica de un Pórfido de Cobre- Skarn

Reliability of the Performance of Upper Limb assessment in Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Abstract The Performance of Upper Limb was specifically designed to assess upper limb function in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The aim of this study was to assess (1) a cohort of typically developing children from the age of 3 years onwards in order to identify the age when the activities assessed in the individual items are consistently achieved, and (2) a cohort of 322 Duchenne children and young adults to establish the range of findings at different ages. We collected normative data for the scale validation on 277 typically developing subjects from 3 to 25 years old. A full score was consistently achieved by the age of 5 years. In the Duchenne cohort there was early involvement of the proximal muscles and a proximal to distal progressive involvement. The scale was capable of measuring small distal movements, related to activities of daily living, even in the oldest and weakest patients. Our data suggest that the assessment can be reliably used in both ambulant and non ambulant Duchenne patients in a multicentric setting and could therefore be considered as an outcome measure for future trials

Il 29 novembre 2018, nell\u2019aula magna a lui dedicata del Dipartimento Architettura e Design della Scuola Politecnica dell\u2019Ateneo genovese, si \ue8 tenuta infatti una giornata di studi sulla figura di Edoardo Ben-venuto (1940-1998), promossa dall\u2019Associazione Edoardo Benvenuto e dal Dipartimento Architettura e Design dell\u2019Universit\ue0 di Genova, in collaborazione con la Fondazione dell\u2019Ordine degli Architetti Pianificatori Paesaggisti e Conservatori della Provincia di Genova, l\u2019Ordine degli Architetti Pianifica-tori Paesaggisti e Conservatori di Genova e l\u2019Associazione Amici del Liceo Colombo di Genova. L\u2019incontro si \ue8 posto un duplice obiettivo, tra memoria e prospettiva: da un lato ricordare Edoardo at-traverso le parole di amici e colleghi, dall\u2019altro far conoscere la sua figura poliedrica alle nuove gene-razioni di studenti e di studiosi.
