Towers of recollement and bases for diagram algebras: planar diagrams and a little beyond
The recollement approach to the representation theory of sequences of
algebras is extended to pass basis information directly through the
globalisation functor. The method is hence adapted to treat sequences that are
not necessarily towers by inclusion, such as symplectic blob algebras (diagram
algebra quotients of the type-\hati{C} Hecke algebras).
By carefully reviewing the diagram algebra construction, we find a new set of
functors interrelating module categories of ordinary blob algebras (diagram
algebra quotients of the type- Hecke algebras) at {\em different} values
of the algebra parameters. We show that these functors generalise to determine
the structure of symplectic blob algebras, and hence of certain two-boundary
Temperley-Lieb algebras arising in Statistical Mechanics.
We identify the diagram basis with a cellular basis for each symplectic blob
algebra, and prove that these algebras are quasihereditary over a field for
almost all parameter choices, and generically semisimple. (That is, we give
bases for all cell and standard modules.)Comment: 61 page
The Natural Capital Indicator Framework (NCIF): A framework of indicators for national natural capital reporting
It is now widely recognised that components of the environment play the role
of economic assets, termed natural capital, that are a foundation of social and
economic development. National governments monitor the state and trends of
natural capital through a range of activities including natural capital
accounting, national ecosystem assessments, ecosystem service valuation, and
economic and environmental analyses. Indicators play an integral role in these
activities as they facilitate the reporting of complex natural capital
information. One factor that hinders the success of these activities and their
comparability across countries is the absence of a coherent framework of
indicators concerning natural capital (and its benefits) that can aid
decision-making. Here we present an integrated Natural Capital Indicator
Framework (NCIF) alongside example indicators, which provides an illustrative
structure for countries to select and organise indicators to assess their use
of and dependence on natural capital. The NCIF sits within a wider context of
indicators related to natural, human, social and manufactured capital, and
associated flows of benefits. The framework provides decision-makers with a
structured approach to selecting natural capital indicators with which to make
decisions about economic development that take into account national natural
capital and associated flows of benefits.Comment: 26 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, 1 graphical abstrac
Paraphilias: definition, diagnosis and treatment
There is a great deal of controversy concerning paraphilia, and defining what is normal versus deviant or disordered, given that this is to some degree dependent on cultural views of acceptability. In this article, we outline these issues and describe recent progress in diagnosing and treating paraphilias
Validity of particle size analysis techniques for measurement of the attrition that occurs during vacuum agitated powder drying of needle-shaped particles
Analysis of needle-shaped particles of cellobiose octaacetate (COA) obtained from vacuum agitated drying experiments was performed using three particle size analysis techniques: laser diffraction (LD), focused beam reflectance measurements (FBRM) and dynamic image analysis. Comparative measurements were also made for various size fractions of granular particles of microcrystalline cellulose. The study demonstrated that the light scattering particle size methods (LD and FBRM) can be used qualitatively to study the attrition that occurs during drying of needle-shaped particles, however, for full quantitative analysis, image analysis is required. The algorithm used in analysis of LD data assumes the scattering particles are spherical regardless of the actual shape of the particles under evaluation. FBRM measures a chord length distribution (CLD) rather than the particle size distribution (PSD), which in the case of needles is weighted towards the needle width rather than their length. Dynamic image analysis allowed evaluation of the particles based on attributes of the needles such as length (e.g. the maximum Feret diameter) or width (e.g. the minimum Feret diameter) and as such, was the most informative of the techniques for the analysis of attrition that occurred during drying
Mobilising Monopoly:game design, place and social values
Location based games have seen the translation of popular boardgames into mixed reality settings through the integration of mobile phone technologies. This paper explores modifying the game of Monopoly from a boardgame to a locative mobile phone based game utilising NFC and QR code technologies to engage players with real world places. In doing so, the mechanics, rules and motivations for playing the game shifted in the prototyping of the game concept. Here, we outline the initial game design process, problems and possibilities in modifying such a well-known game to the city streets. We also detail how the mechanics of the game were updated to provide some solutions to ideas surrounding property values, social media values and player location in the new game design
