    Get PDF
This study examined the relationship between levels of organizational trust (OT) and nursing turnover rates, turnover expenditures, patient satisfaction scores, nurse managers\u27 job satisfaction, and nurse managers\u27 perception of fair compensation. An OT inventory and demographic questionnaire were used to collect data from 57 nurse managers working for not-for-profit hospitals in California. Pearson correlations analysis showed that OT was statistically significantly (p = .05) related to overall hospital patient satisfaction scores, nurse managers\u27 job satisfaction, nurse managers\u27 perception of fair compensation, and executives\u27 tenure. OT was not correlated with nursing turnover rates or nursing turnover expenditures. By focusing on developing an environment of OT, hospital executives may increase job satisfaction and perceptions of fair compensation among nurse managers, possible resulting in increased patient satisfaction scores

Passenger Exposure to Magnetic Fields due to the Batteries of an Electric Vehicle

In electric vehicles, passengers sit very close to an electric system of significant power. The high currents achieved in these vehicles mean that the passengers could be exposed to significant magnetic fields. One of the electric devices present in the power train are the batteries. In this paper, a methodology to evaluate the magnetic field created by these batteries is presented. First, the magnetic field generated by a single battery is analyzed using finite elements simulations. Results are compared to laboratory measurements, taken from a real battery, in order to validate the model. After this, the magnetic field created by a complete battery pack is estimated and results are discussed

The role of Tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine reducing agent in the controlled formation of α,ω-Alkanedithiols Monolayers on Au(111) with monocoordinated and bicoordinated configurations

    Get PDF
The addition of the reducing agent tris(2-carboxyethyl) phosphine (TCEP) during the formation of α,ω-alkanedithiols monolayers on Au(111) using the immersion method produces the assembly of monolayers with bicoordinated molecules (both S-terminal groups bound to the surface) that have a reductive desorption potential that is more positive than for monolayers with monocoordinated molecules in a standing up configuration. We show that the use of TCEP either during formation of the monolayer or as a post treatment procedure allows the controlled formation of monolayers with bicoordinated or monocoordinated configurations. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were performed to elucidate the role of TCEP in the formation of the bicoordinated configuration. We investigated the TCEP-dithiol interaction in ethanol solvent as well as the coadsorption of trimethylphosphine with 1,2-ethanedithiol on Au(111). The Brønsted base character of the phosphine facilitates the H exchange from the −SHgroups of the dithiol to the phosphorous atom of TCEP with very low activation energy barriers, thus allowing the thiolate groups to bind to the Au(111) surface, thus yielding the bicoordinated configuration. Dithiol lifting mechanisms such as H exchange between S atoms and the formation of intra/inter layer disulfide bonds have much higher energy barriers.Fil: Euti, Esteban. Service convenience, perceived value, satisfaction, and loyalty: A study of consumers from low-cost fitness centers in Spain

    Get PDF
The fitness sector is a growing industry worldwide. Its continued implementation of business models makes it an attractive market to study. Precisely, the low-cost model has become popular in countries such as Spain for which the study of variables that could influence one of the biggest problems in this industry, customer loyalty is of interest to investigators. Therefore, this work has as its objective to analyze possible differences between service convenience, perceived value, and satisfaction with the characteristics of clients of low-cost fitness center, and to determine if there is a relationship with client loyalty. The sample consisted of 763 clients (381 women and 382 men). A questionnaire to measures the service convenience, perceived value, satisfaction, and future behavior intentions or loyalty was adopted. Scales from similar studies were implemented these being valid and reliable instruments. The study offers a descriptives results, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, t-Student, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression. Results demonstrate significant differences with service convenience for gender, age, and length of time it takes to commute to the fitness center. Furthermore, there was a positive relationship among all variables, with loyalty resulting as the strongest relationship followed by satisfaction then service convenience. The findings of this study brings an understanding regarding the reality of the low-cost fitness center consumer which could possibly be extrapolated to other countries with an emerging fitness industr

Large size FFTs over time-varying channels

    Get PDF
[EN] In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, the usage of large size fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) reduces the guard interval percentage, and therefore increases the data throughput reducing the data overhead. In addition, for the same pilot pattern, the distance between adjacent pilots is smaller, which will improve the channel estimation. Nevertheless, up to now, they have not been considered for delivering mobile services as the inter-carrier interference (ICI) due to the Doppler effect is very critical. The main objective is to show that taking advantage of the latest improvements in error correction techniques, it is feasible to use large size FFTs for time-varying channels. Furthermore, there is also presented a theoretical estimation for quantifying the loss due to the ICI, and finally several simulation results that reinforce the idea that large OFDM symbols are suitable for mobile channels. This work has been financially supported in part by the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU (UFI 11/30), by the Basque Government (IT-683–13 and SAIOTEK), by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under the project NG-RADIATE (TEC2009-14201), and by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under the project HEDYT-GBB (TEC2012-33302)

Del prototipo realizado, se consiguió una precisión y exactitud con un error promedio de 4.19% obtenido mediante pruebas en tiempo real

Do Gender and Race/Ethnicity Influence Acute Myocardial Infarction Quality of Care in a Hospital with a Large Hispanic Patient and Provider Representation?

    Get PDF
Background. Disparities in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care for women and minorities have been extensively reported in United States but with limited information on Hispanics. Methods. Medical records of 287 (62%) Hispanic and 176 (38%) non-Hispanic white (NHW) patients and 245 women (53%) admitted with suspected AMI to a southern California nonprofit community hospital with a large Hispanic patient and provider representation were reviewed. Baseline characteristics, outcomes (mortality, CATH, PCI, CABG, and use of pertinent drug therapy), and medical insurance were analyzed according to gender, Hispanic and NHW race/ethnicity when AMI was confirmed. For categorical variables, 2×2 chi-square analysis was conducted. Odds ratio and 95% confidence interval for outcomes adjusted for gender, race/ethnicity, cardiovascular risk factors, and insurance were obtained. Results. Women and Hispanics had similar drug therapy, CATH, PCI, and mortality as men and NHW when AMI was confirmed (n=387). Hispanics had less private insurance than NHW (31.4% versus 56.3%, P<0.001); no significant differences were found according to gender. Conclusions. No differences in quality measures and outcomes were found for women and between Hispanic and NHW in AMI patients admitted to a facility with a large Hispanic representation. Disparities in medical insurance showed no influence on these findings
