The essay is part of an interdisciplinary research on migration and foreigners' legal status. It investigates the successful integration of immigrants into European societies and the respect for identity needs. In multicultural societies are multiplying, among others, claims for recognition of religious diversity and, in particular, the use of religious clothes. In the employment relation this request demands a balance between the interest of employers to profit and the employees' right to manifest religion and it raises the question about the adequacy of laws prohibiting discrimination to protect the worker's identity needs

The paper investigates the consequences of the abrogation of so called “project work” as well as the possible protection for coordinated and continuous collaborations ("parasubordinate work"). First, the paper focuses on the interpretation of Art. 2 of Act 81/2015. It is argued that the new norm does not extend the application the of the employment law to independent workers but simply updates the notion of subordinate workers, clarifying the elements that a work performance must have to be considered subordinate. Then, the paper analyses the compatibility of the new regulations with both the Italian Constitutional Court and the ECJ case law. Finally, still focusing on the compatibility of the new regulation with the EU law framework, the paper investigates how far basic protections can be extended to formally-independent workers taking their livelihoods working integrated into a single company

Purpose: Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE), a disease caused by Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus (TBEV), is emerging in Italy. This study aimed to characterize the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, imaging and electroencephalogram characteristics in Belluno, North-East Italy. Results: 76% were males, mean age 53 years; 50% did not report tick bite. 72% had a biphasic course, 42% a monophasic one, 8 cases of abortive TBE. Mostly no specific symptoms were observed, together with neurological signs and symptoms. None died, but 35% had sequelae at the one-month follow-up. Men had a higher risk of having neurological/neurocognitive sequelae; paresthesia or tremors were associated independently with sequelae. In terms of laboratory data, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and lymphocytosis were associated with the first phase (p < .01), while monocytosis, lymphocytopenia, high levels of ESR and CRP with the second (p < .05). Other abnormal laboratory data were observed: high levels of transaminases, bilirubin, GGT, fibrinogen, amylase, LDH, CPK and electrolyte disorders. Most of the liquor showed pleocytosis and increased protein levels. No specific findings characterized imaging; electroencephalogram mainly reported general and focal anomalies in the temporal lobe. Conclusions: Although patients have not reported a tick bite, TBEV infection should be considered for diagnosis. Usually no specific symptoms are reported along with neurological signs and symptoms. The biphasic course is more often described than the monophasic course; abortive TBE is sometimes present. Paresthesia and tremors are independently associated with neurological/neurocognitive sequelae; men have a higher risk of having sequelae. The first phase is probably associated with thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and lymphocytosis; the second with monocytosis, lymphocytopenia, high levels of CRP and ESR. Electrolyte disorders, high levels of transaminases, GGT, bilirubin, CPK, LDH, fibrinogen and amylase may characterize TBEV infection. © 202

Neurological Consequences, Mental Health, Physical Care, and Appropriate Nutrition in Long-COVID-19

SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has caused a collapse of the world health systems. Now, vaccines and more effective therapies have reversed this crisis but the scenario is further aggravated by the appearance of a new pathology, occurring as SARS-CoV-2 infection consequence: the long-COVID-19. This term is commonly used to describe signs and symptoms that continue or develop after acute infection of COVID-19 up to several months. In this review, the consequences of the disease on mental health and the neurological implications due to the long-COVID are described. Furthermore, the appropriate nutritional approach and some recommendations to relieve the symptoms of the pathology are presented. Data collected indicated that in the next future the disease will affect an increasing number of individuals and that interdisciplinary action is needed to counteract it

Nusinersen Induces Disease-Severity-Specific Neurometabolic Effects in Spinal Muscular Atrophy

Intrathecal delivery of Nusinersen-an antisense oligonucleotide that promotes survival motor neuron (SMN) protein induction-is an approved therapy for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Here, we employed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to longitudinally characterize the unknown metabolic effects of Nusinersen in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of SMA patients across disease severity. Modulation of amino acid metabolism is a common denominator of biochemical changes induced by Nusinersen, with distinct downstream metabolic effects according to disease severity. In severe SMA1 patients, Nusinersen stimulates energy-related glucose metabolism. In intermediate SMA2 patients, Nusinersen effects are also related to energy homeostasis but involve ketone body and fatty acid biosynthesis. In milder SMA3 patients, Nusinersen mainly modulates amino acid metabolism. Moreover, Nusinersen modifies the CSF metabolome of a more severe clinical group towards the profile of untreated SMA patients with milder disease. These findings reveal disease severity-specific neurometabolic signatures of Nusinersen treatment, suggesting a selective modulation of peripheral organ metabolism by this CNS-directed therapy in severe SMA patients
